Great spot, convenient location with welcoming atmosphere and staff. Had delicious pancakes with banana. Pleasantly surprised to find banana slices between the pancakes. The pancakes dulce latte were also very good. Large menu selection, comfortable atmosphere and friendly and professional service will definitely have me return regularly.

Salmon bruschetta was fantastic.

Everything was fantastic, get the Orange combo to start. A glass of fresh squeezed OJ, coffee, fruit plate and the most beautifully plated salmon bruschetta I've ever seen for 6 bucks.

Chicken empaladas
Nischal C.

We ordered chicken empaladas, ravioli and fish & chips. Good things- ambience, one of the servers speaks English, good food presentation, fresh seafood, ravioli was nice and empaladas looked beautiful and crunchy from outside with juicy and fresh chicken (loved it). Not Very good - fish and chips was below standard. So bland with no flavor. I would still go to this place to try something else maybe.

Ate here a couple of times, once for lunch and then returned another day for breakfast. Very trendy spot. They had menus in both English and Spanish and the staff spoke both languages. We first found this little spot for lunch because it was close to the apartment we were staying at, it's a short distance from the tourist area but worth the walk. The restaurant is small and trendy, also very clean. Their food was very fresh and healthy. For lunch I had their special for the day, which was fish and grilled vegetables and thoroughly enjoyed it. When I returned for breakfast a few days later I had the complete combo. Their orange juice is fresh squeezed and they have the best chorizo I've had in recent memory.

Good vibes. The fruit was a little off to me, but we enjoy working here. They have really amazing veggie empanadas

Empanada quemada

Burnt empanadas. (See pics) Inattentive staff. And I ordered the salad with salmon... They brought it to me... No salmon. It took several minutes to get a staff's attention... Finally when it returned to me... *wish I had taken a photo, there were two bites of salmon ...that's all. TWO bite-sized pieces... For 135 pesos?? A small, mediocre ensalada with olive oil and vinegar brought to the table for me to dress??? No salt. No pepper--Ugh no!!! Wasn't worth $7. Nor half that price. I should have sent it back. Worst presentation I have ever experienced in my 12 years of coming to Playa Del Carmen and the massive number of restaurants I have frequented. In addition, no one ever circled back, offered chimichurri or aimed to care! Que lastíma. What a disgrace. ...And I am Argentine and speak Spanish, so no language barrier to use as an excuse. Nor were they very busy. Go to Papa Charly across the street or Mercado 30 for better tasting selections and service. Or anywhere, but here. So disappointed. First impressions matter.

Absolutely amazing food. I had the seared tuna and it was delicious! Service was excellent!! Was my last meal here on my vacation and wish I would have found this place sooner

They are closed. Out of business. It was a great breakfast but they shut down for some reason unknown.

Agreed. Chilaquiles are the bomb! And I've had some pretty good ones before. The Limonada Maya was so refreshing. Definitely be back here.

Vibe: 10/10 Food: 8/10…read moreService: 9/10 Prices: 4/10 Gitano is one of those quintessential special-occasion spots--perfect for a date night that turns into drinks and dancing. If you're in the right mood, you'll have an amazing time. If you're not, everything can quickly feel a little too loud, inflated, and overpriced. The service is actually better than what you'd expect from a place with this much of a clubby atmosphere, which was a pleasant surprise. The whole space nails that Tulum-style laid-back jungle energy while still feeling upscale and very boho-chic. You're definitely paying a premium for the scene, but the scene is also kind of the point even offseason. Come dressed up, come ready to spend, and come in the mood to make a night of it.

Tasty, beautiful, and convenient. This open-air restaurant gets great natural light early on and…read moretransitions into a loungey club later in the evening. Near the bathrooms, you might get offered drugs. For drinks, I kept it simple with a cold, crisp Victoria beer which was perfect for the heat. The food was really good with a mix of tapas and larger plates: Ceviche Gitano - fresh, bright, and addictive for the whole family Guac - gone in seconds, kids and adults were feral Chorizo con Queso - rich, melty goodness Birria/barbacoa - deep flavors and satisfying Seafood Croquettes - a big win, especially with the kids NOTES/TIPS: **Walkable from La Zebra and other hotels **Wear pants if you're sensitive to bug bites. **Service was great. They were attentive, friendly, and didn't hover.
