Wow i lived in Lawrenceville for two years and never saw this place before I only knew of the one off hurricane sholes but this is new to me i seen a friend post about it and I so happen to bf in the area and decided to give it a try and let's just say it was well worth it. Inside was small but interesting i love that they had a few ideal things for Haitian kitchen cuisine such as rice , beans, juice packets, soda , diri mushrooms , sports drinks etc . Very helpful if you wanted to grab a bite to eat and a few items such as listed before. So it's a bakery/restaurant which most Haitian restaurants are both . Anyways me and my boyfriend wanted Haitian food so i told him let's try it out since the other one takes so damn long but is 200% worth it the one off Hurricane sholes but let's not get off topic lol . . . Truth be told, I came to the area for Donut Worry, a local donut shop in the same strip as La Citadelle Bakery, but when I saw the long line almost coming out of the door of La Citadelle, I needed to check it out! I'd never been to or heard of a Haitian Bakery, but this little shop kept churning out breads, pastries and sweets as I stood in line, so they're all cooked fresh. In addition to the bakeries side, they do sell meals of all types. I ordered their special, along with a the following pastries: Chicken Daily special - $5.99 Beef (Boeuf) Pate - $1.25 Chicken (Poulet) Pate - $1.25 Pineapple Upside down cake - $3.99 Starting with the pate, when these things are fresh, they're absolutely delicious. I had the Beef Pate, and the pastry was so flaky, buttery and had lots of really good flavor. The only problem, if you could call it that, is there wasn't a lot of beef or chicken filling in the pastry, and sometimes entire bites would just be pastry. I wasn't bothered by this because the pastries were so good. The Pineapple upside down cake (individual size) I was told was their signature dessert, and I could see why. The glaze on the cake was just right, especially paired with the tart pineapple slice on the bottom. The cake was moist, fresh and really well made. Probably my favorite thing I sampled here today. The Chicken daily special came with two chicken legs along with white rice and black bean soup. The black bean soup was listed as black beans, so if you want that bean texture and not the smoothness of the soup, be warned. That wasn't a problem for me since it was tasty. The chicken was covered in a sauce that contained chopped onion, green and red bell pepper. The chicken flavor was good, but I wasn't a big fan of the texture, which almost tasted like it was boiled. For 6 bucks though, this special was a great deal. Their specials typically are on the weekends and are noted on their menu board. Parking is shared in this lot but since there are only a handful of restaurants, it's never full. Customer service was just fine, friendly, and greeted you with smiles. I gotta admit that it threw me off when there were children taking orders (and money) at the register The verdict here is I enjoyed myself at La Citadelle Bakery. I think the bakery portion of the restaurant scored the most points for me, but there are some great specials going on where you can get a lot of food for cheap. Kinda a drive for people who don't live in the Lawrenceville area, but if you can, check it out and show this small independent business some love. read more

Ok. The food here is fire from the Patties or Paté to the Grio . Everything is good here. I really like the the spicy herring Paté. Moreover, the staff are pleasant, the place is clean, and well lit. It's more of a take out as there are few seats. The only thing I would say is that you would be wise to call ahead of time as the wait time can be 30 minutes long. I'm originally from Brooklyn, NY and finding a Haitian food spot was very easy. Being down here for 11 years, Haitian restaurants are far and in between. Anyway, I didn't feel like cooking and found this spot. As you can see from other yelper's pictures, the restaurant is small and cute but has seating and some tables. The woman behind the counter whose name I apologetically forgot was sweet and attentive. This is a big plus. No offense, but my experience with customer service going to Haitian restaurants has never been good and I'm a very pleasant person. So don't take it personally if you go to one and you are not told their whole life story and showered with attention like many places in the south. However, this place was great. Food was super delicious. I ordered the daily specials- chicken with a tomato based sauce and onions with red beans and rice, griot(twice cooked fried pork) with red beans and rice, and Fried turkey piece with red beans and rice. If you haven't noticed already, I have a thing for red beans and rice. They also have other rice options like white rice. It also came with a small container of picklese (spicy pickled cabbage) to put on your food if you like. The daily special does not come with sides like fried plantains, which I didn't mind because I eat plantains daily at home. It was 5.99 and the portion size I thought was fair. The food was perfectly seasoned. Meats were crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Rice cooked perfectly. It wasn't salty and didn't lack it either. Was it the best ever Haitian food I've had in my life...no. However, it was definitely good, delicious, fulfilling and felt like I was at a family members home. Don't sleep on this place. Give it a try. I also bought a bag of freshly baked bread (nothing like store bought bread). Hard for me to describe. Grab a bag. You can put whatever you want on it but it is especially good with nut butters or butter dipped in hot chocolate. I bought the pineapple cake. I'm not much of a fan of that. The top was good but I felt is was a little dry. I'll try again next time I go. I bought a dozen beef and salted codf patties, took them home and it was gone by in a couple of hours. Oh yeah, I also bought a bag of biscuit sec ( hard biscuits or crackers). I also dip this in hot chocolate or eat with a nut butter or butter.
