Tacos (birria, labio, cachete)

Tacos De Birria La Chiva Loca is another worthy taco stand to add to your rotation. From 7:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. you'll find them Wednesday to Sunday in the same sandy lot next to the railroad tracks that many other taco stands call home on different days and hours. I got 3 tacos for $7.50 which was kind to my wallet and tasty for my belly. It may be my gringo palette but the sauces were spicy but a wonderful addition to the tacos.

My absolute go-to for taco cravings in the South Bay! Pastor, cabeza, asada with tacos and papas are all amazing. Everything, really.

You can go next door to Vons and get a drink. The BAD: 5.90 for a single taco with cheese. There's no seating area. I believe they had seating prior to Covid (I could definitely be wrong) but you order at the door. If Covid is the reason that started, that needs to be changed. Even just for 5-6 small tables would suffice. to charge restaurant style pricing for pick up order is a bit much.. even in Torrance! If this is the Tito's alternative, Tito's has plenty of seating. Will it fulfill the craving? YES. Will the price upset you? YES. Would I try again? Meh. My real rating is a 3.5 but bumped up to support our local businesses.

The shells were solid and well packed with some flavor inside. The tacos were fine. I also had the Beef, Bean & Cheese Burrito, which is dense. The food came with a small bag of chips and a small amount of salsa. Extra salsa is $2 more. Tom's Tacos is not bad. It's just depressing that they no longer allow anyone inside. They used to have several tables and chairs inside so you could eat there, or at least sit while you wait, but now you are met at the front door with an order table. You are not allowed inside. There is no place to sit while you wait for your order. This is probably remnants of COVID shutdowns, but that was five years ago. Regardless, the whole process is very cold and indifferent. I didn't feel that my presence and order were appreciated. It felt more like it was tolerated. I don't know why they won't at least let you order inside and sit on a chair while you wait. They don't have to allow people to eat inside, but at least put out a few chairs and just let them sit and wait. It is not a welcoming process; not friendly, not kind, and not a meal or experience I wish to repeat. Oh well, I guess this works for them.

Before her food was ready, she received an emergency call and had to leave immediately. That's the reality of being a first responder--when a call comes in, you leave immediately, no time to wait for your meal. Before leaving, she politely asked the cashier to cancel the order and refund her card. Instead of showing understanding or offering assistance, the cashier was dismissive and unhelpful. After completing the call, my daughter contacted the restaurant, apologized for the inconvenience, and again requested a refund. She was initially told that the receipt had been thrown away. Later, the receipt was apparently found, but she was then informed that if she wanted a refund--or even the food she had paid for--she would have to return to the location in person. The problem is that she lives more than an hour away and was only in the area because she was working. I called the following day in an attempt to resolve the issue. Unfortunately, I was met with the same attitude. The employee refused to provide her name, refused to provide a manager's name, and refused to provide any contact information for someone who could address the complaint. To be clear, this is not about the cost of a meal. Had the employee been courteous, professional, or even remotely helpful, we likely would have let the matter go. Emergencies happen. Schedules change. We understand that. What prompted this review was not the lost food or the refund itself--it was the employee's rude attitude, lack of professionalism, and complete unwillingness to help resolve a simple customer service issue. I will also acknowledge that by the end of my phone call, I became frustrated and was not as polite as I should have been. I regret that. However, that frustration came only after repeated attempts to handle the situation respectfully and being met with rudeness and resistance at every turn. A business can recover from a mistake. What it cannot afford is employees who treat customers with contempt and then refuse to provide any way to contact management when a legitimate concern is raised. Management should be aware that this employee's behavior reflects poorly on the entire business. If this is how customers are treated when they encounter an unexpected emergency, then potential customers deserve to know before choosing to spend their money here.

I have also tried their carne asada (which is served with the unusual addition of a small amount of pinto beans) and they too are great. Had the Al Pastor, the the turkey carnitas, and the jerk chicken - all top notch. Super friendly service, solid staff working the plancha, and a low-key neighborhood vibe. Make sure to try their home made pineapple agua fresca too. This is the kinda taqueria you want on your radar to try. Thank you for keeping it simple, and doing things right.

I ended up getting a chorizo breakfast burrito for $14.50. The burrito is good. The flour tortilla is quality and tastes as if they're made in house. There is a good amount of chorizo and egg; however, for my preferences, it was light on the crispy hash browns and mine was pretty heavy on the melty cheese. Their red salsa is really flavorful, however, and that amplifies the flavors. I definitely would come back if I were in the area, in order to try their tacos, burritos, and ceviches. I hear good things about their fish tacos! Overall, I'm glad that I stopped by when I was in the area.

I have been seeing them on my feed but for some reason haven't stopped in yet. As a solo diner I felt pleasantly welcomed as I walked it. The sweet gal behind the counter was very friendly and engaging when I asked her questions seeing it was my first time here. I chose the two taco combo, carne asada was my meat of choice. The two other options were shrimp and chicken. The combo comes with chips and a drink along with my choice of salsa. I have to tell you I was pretty impressed with my tacos. They were loaded with meat; which was really tasty. They had cilantro and onion and avocado. The chips were fresh and also very good. I liked the salsa as well. The two gals working the counter and who brought my food were so sweet. She even came back to ask if I needed anything and gave me extra salsa. They have numerous TVs (got to catch some of the Dodger game. ) in there and they do so alcohol as well. I will definitely be back. This was a very nice solo lunch experience..

After waiting about 10 minutes, I went to the counter, and it took even longer before an employee asked for my name. It turned out my order had been sitting there for over 20 minutes while takeout orders were being prioritized. When they finally handed me my food, it was still in a bag even though my order was for dine-in, and I had to remind them to give me my drinks. They also forgot to include salsa for the chips. What really frustrated me was being told that next time I should just go to the counter after ordering at the kiosk. As a first-time customer, how was I supposed to know that? If the kiosk orders aren't being monitored, that's something the restaurant should address--not something customers should have to figure out on their own. After this experience, there won't be a next time.
