The half inch thick "torta" is sometimes as a thick pancake and often folded in half for serving. This one was a bit too thick to do that and, instead, covered the serving plate (see photo posted). This thick corn cake was fried to a crispy light golden brown crust with a moist and tender very sweet interior. It was topped with melted cheese (queso a mano) or white mozzarella. It also was covered with a fairly tender layer of barbecued beef plus slices of fresh avocado. Big serving - big flavor. Also grabbed a half dozen "Colombian" style empanadas (2 of each type: chicken, beef, or cheese.) Well cooked, slightly thick cornmeal crust and amply filled. These came with garlic-forward Colombian "Aji picante." Many more Latin dishes to explore on another visit.
