Decent food but overall this experience was an enormous let down. Eat here twice, the first time we brought them around 3lbs of fresh tuna and they only served us about 1lb--we assume they kept the remainder to sell to other customers. The manager (or who'm we presumed to be the manger) was a short little guy with a mustache. Super rude, giant attitude and was the sole reason we walked out on our second trip. If you're going to steal customers fish to sell to other customers, at least provide decent service. Cannot recommend avoiding this place enough. The fish we didn't bring here our first trip was obviously old and smelled awful, and in turn made my wife sick. Pro tip: skip this place, go to Triny's down the street. read more

The best restaurant in Los Barriles and maybe in all of Baja! We ate here almost every night during our week long stay in Los Barriles. Every single dish we had was mouthwatering. We are back home and still dreaming of their La Casita sushimi dish. One of the best dishes we have ever had in our life. With slices of freshly caught tuna, a homemade soy and ponzu sauce and thin slices of serrano on top this dish was insanely delicious. Since we ate here almost every night we were able to try a lot of other things on the menu. Everything was perfect! Some of our favorite dishes were the Iris, the Pineapple Shrimp, the sea bass with jalapeno sauce, ceviche, and the sushimi. You literally can't go wrong here. One of the other amazing things about La Casita is that you are able to bring in the fish you catch and they will cook it for you. We brought in mahi mahi one day and wahoo another day and they made it many different ways for us. The ceviche they made with our freshly caught fish was to die for! Lastly the service at La Casita is unmatched. It is a family run restaurant and by the end of our week we felt like a part of the family. Pedro was our server most nights and we left feeling like he was a close friend of ours. We will miss La Casita and can't wait to come back to Los Barriles so we can eat here more! I chose LaCasita for my birthday dinner during our Los Barriles vacation based on its varied menu, positive Yelp reviews and rustic Mexican decor. Four of us very much enjoyed each of our meals but it's the chocolate mousse that I'll never forget! Overall, excellent food. Extremely disorganized service. Prices normal for seafood. (Don't know why this is listed as $$$$.) There were 6 of us. We didn't have a reservation on a Sat night, but they had a circular table open. So we were seated after 5 minutes. We ordered two ceviches, one mango. Can't remember the other. My son: mango prawns. His wife: a sushi roll and some other sushi dish. Sister in law: sea bass. My wife and I both: seared ahi tuna. My nephew: seafood (I think) pasta in pesto sauce. He thought it perfectly good but not beyond what he's had in the states. On my taste it was very good. The two ahi seared tunas were absolutely perfect. My sister-in-law loved the fresh sea bass. The mango shrimp got thumbs up. The sushi roll tasted excellent. The other sushi dish: didn't remember it as being exceptional. Don't remember what my son's wife said. Dishes were of good size, including the sushi roll. For dessert we ordered 3 chocolate cakes, a chocolate flan, and 3 dishes of ice cream: one cranberry. The flan was the big hit. The chocolate cakes were good, a bit dry and not in that topmost category. The ice cream was also good but not exceptional. Now, the disorganized service: most of which was probably due to the kitchen but some is on the waiter. He was friendly, but ... The ceviche made no appearance as an appetizer. Finally three of the mains came out. With the ceviche. It took another 15(?) minutes for the next two dishes to arrive. I was the last man out. I had to remind the waiter that we had another tuna coming. Looking at him it was like a bell of cognizance just went off. After another 15 minutes my tuna appeared. It was obvious that they had just cooked it. Meanwhile the first three people had well finished eating. The drinks that were initially ordered came appropriately soon. The margaritas were on the smaller side and the piña coladas and a mixed rum drink were quite good but ice took up the majority of the glass. My nephew ordered another margarita. It didn't appear--despite his reminding them-until the end of the meal. The desserts were brought out in decent time. No ice cream was present. So we had to remind the waiter that we had also ordered 3 dishes of it. Again it was like a light went on for him. So, overall, I would rate the food was excellent. Everyone agreed. Brand new location!! We are so lucky to have this new restaurant in town, which just opened last week. It's been packed most nights but we were hungry early last night and thought we might find a seat and that we did. It was a cold and windy night and we scored a table next to the propane firepit in the middle of the room so we were quite comfy. We started with the lovely toasted bread they bring out with a yummy herbed, olive oil dipping sauce - YUM! Followed by the Derrick sushi roll - which I'm sure was in a sauce not quite plant-based, but we were splurging, so no judgment please!! And finally we shared the seared ahi entree - all delish!! Add one glass of wine for me cuz the hubs is abstaining right now and the bill came to under $30. It's a bit pricey for our little fishing village but def worth it - we'll be back!! read more

This is as good as it gets in Los Barriles. Our local friends mandated we try this restaurant so I took my wife here for her birthday. Every staff member that visited our table was considerate, friendly and asked how our food was and if they could get us anything. We had a bottle of wine, fresh bass, scallops, organic salad and it was all wonderful. The highlight (even though the main courses were fantastic) was the black bean soup. The dessert was scrumptious and had a flamming firework as a candle. This meal would easily cost $100-$150 in the U.S. and we walked out with a bill + tip of around $65. Local friends recommended La Casita. We had an excellent meal here tonight and we were greeted by our new pickleball amigo Jesus! He makes you feel special and makes this place even better because he works here! I had a shrimp tempura w a creamy curry to dip in-- fabulouso! The bread they bring w the pesto dipping sauce upon arrival was tasty as was the flan for dessert! Hubby had the tequila jalapeño sea bass which was tasty but maybe just a smidge over cooked but the sauce was good. It looked like the chef had an apprentice working w him which I thought was awesome but may also have been the reason for the sea bass being not quite perfect. The sangria was refreshing! Fabulous find! We went the sushi route and didn't have any regrets. The tuna tartare might be my favorite but it is hard to say. We had the casita roll which was awesome. Then the mango shrimp was very tasty and the mash potatoes with it was a nice touch. We were both especially pleased with the table service as well being industry snobs. We visited the other night with our restaurant-owning son and his chef wife. We ordered a variety of great appetizers, including the delicious Casita Roll and the curry sashimi, which was delightful and surprising. We all sampled the grilled shrimp, the ribs, the fish in a tequila jalapeno sauce, and the scallops. All were wonderful, with the possible exception of the scallops, which were a bit overcooked and so tougher than expected. All in all it was an extremely satisfying meal. Without a doubt this food is the best in Los Barriles and may be the best food in Baja. It certainly far surpasses anything I could get in my home state in the USA. All of their food is fresh and expertly and imaginatively prepared. They only serve what is in season so scallops and mangos were not on the menu this night. Rather I ordered the seared ahi tuna which are biting right now. The fish was prepared impeccably. I was so surprised by all the complexities of flavor on my plate I don't know exactly what it all was. The fish had a wonderful flavor and was served on garlic mashed potatoes with seasoned greens and a fresh diced tomato fish. My husband ordered sushi and was over the top as well about his. For dessert we had the flan topped with avocado ice cream and a cranberry / peppercorn sauce garnished with pecan and mint. Unbelievable! I thought I had had good flan before but they all paled in comparison. This meal ranks as one of the most memorable of my life! Awesome food in a relaxed atmosphere where you can still show up in your flip flops if you want. read more
