This place is a great spot to come to when you want some comfort food. I had the empanadas and it was delicious! The service is also great! Everyone was very friendly and attentive. The ambiance was also nice and loved the flower tree. Would definitely come back here again!

Vegetarian Mofongo De Vegetales

If you are a hungry person, like I am, I would strongly recommend you to go to this place immediately. After walking for an hour or so, in the cold, trying to find an apartment I came here with my friend. The place is warm and cozy, and our waitress was very friendly and accommodating. You could access the menus on your tablet and they are pictures to each item as well. I ordered the Tostones and the salad and the vegetarian Mofongo my friend had the chicken plate. We also ordered the empanadas to go. I will definitely come back here again especially if I live in the area.

Carne Guisada Tuesday Lunch Special

We had actually stumbled upon this restaurant as we came to find something also nearby. The place is pretty small and when we arrived there was one other couple there. We were brought lemon water and a menu that was on a tablet. We then placed our order. My partner got the carne guisada with a side of veggies and fries. I got the order of pernil with rice and beans, with a side of yuca frita. While waiting for our food a few more people walked in which then made the space feel extra small, the walkways are very narrow. It almost felt like there was no privacy or personal space. We got our food and I personally enjoyed what I ordered, especially the sauces they bring to your table. My partner on the other hand felt like his food was cold. He also mentioned that the food was okay overall. Nothing mind blowing. The food portion did feel like a lot, I had quite a bit of leftovers. I will note that the containers they gave us for our food were pretty small (I didn't ask if they had bigger sizes) and I was worried the food wouldn't fit, but it did- barely.

Delicious cuban food!! Got the ropa vieja with both black and yellow arroz and maduros. sooooo yum. I would opt for the black arroz over yellow when i go back. Service is so down to earth and accommodating. It's very very dark in here and there are maybe about 16 seats total in the whole place. Definitely would only ever go for parties of 1/2. food was better than the cuban imo

Great prices and amazing flavors! Already came back twice in the past month. Small space but easy to be seated for lunch on a weekday.

I love la casa! The food always tastes so fresh and authentic. I also love the fact that they'll make sangria with the wine you bring. We got the steak this time for the first time and it was perfectly grilled. The service is great and the food is exceptional.

I was craving mofongo and my friend suggested this place around the block from hers. It was so good and hit the spot for me!! We walked in ~8pm on a Friday and there were a few tables open so we got to choose. The decor was fun and I really liked the wall tiles here. Service was fast! I got the Mofongo De Camarones and Yuca Frita - both were exactly what I wanted. There was so much food leftover I had enough to go for a late night snack and a leftover lunch the next day. Just a note that the mofongo got really hard the second day and took quite some microwaving to get soft, so definitely try to finish that the same day if you can. Next time I'm around, I'm gonna stop by again and check out the other items on their menu!

The Guava Cheesecake is the best slice of cheesecake available in Hoboken

This restaurant has become a go-to for me since moving to Hoboken. I became a "regular" once I tried the Guava Cheesecake, what I think is the best damn slice of cheesecake available in town! My usual order includes fresh made-to-order iced coffee that never fails to wake me up, it's some of the strongest brew in town rivaling hip cold brew shops. The empanadas are home-made and a must-have before I go into work. There is a beautiful dining room with a vibrant and friendly atmosphere. They have lunch specials available with a variety of choices that change daily. I love coming out to eat with friends here since it's BYOB and they offer amazing sangria mix. The customer service is excellent, you will feel welcomed and taken care of every time. I have interacted with every staff member visiting frequently and everyone is always on their A-game.

I would have given this restaurant five stars if I were there only once. Second time my husband got food poisoning from some bad spicy mayonnaise from this place. He suffered from it for a week before getting back to himself. This place is very small, can probably fit 7 tables. If you are out there around 6 over the weekend, chances are you won't get a seat. So forget about it. You need to be there around 5, at least that's when the first time we went and we're able to be seated right away. Service is good. Servers are pretty friendly. The only thing I don't like is the spicy mayonnaise which causes somewhat a tremendously bad experience for my husband.

After a weekend after in Long Beach Island, we come here and it was such inviting place even though we were casual post beach looking . Unfortunately, I have been ordering slightly boring lately because I'm on keto diet but my boyfriend ordered the award winning dish! Shrimp mofongo , one of the tops ones I have had outside of Puerto Rico!

I visited this spot this afternoon with some friends. I had high hopes since I had been here about a year before. Service: The staff told us there was an hour wait ahead of us as soon as I asked for a table but no one else was outside. The server was also little snarky when she took our order (she did not take time to answer our questions about the menu and started cleaning up our dishes before we were done with our food). Food: Three of us got the pollo y camarones al aljillo, probably the only thing to get here. We were put off by the limited selection of the menu (many dishes were only served on Tuesdays and Thursdays). Pictured here are the fried calamari and churrasco y camarones. Overall, the food was tasty. The churrasco was a little expensive in my opinion and left us feeling taken advantage of. Ambiance: The restaurant itself has a charming look but it is very compact. I recommend coming here with a party no larger than four people. Takeout the pollo y camarones from this restaurant, the only saving grace here.

Many of their dishes are naturally gluten free but I'm not sure about cross contamination! They do ask about food allergies though and I've seen the servers accommodate as needed so you should be safe to eat here!

The staff are very friendly, despite the limited English skills (and we don't speak Spanish). The restaurant takes cash and Zelle. Both of the below entrees came with rice and (a very small portion of) plantain. *Roast Pork: I assume this was pernil. It had a nice balanced seasoning that was gently savory and went well with the rice. Not a particularly "wet" dish, don't expect a lot of sauce. *Chicken Stew: They gave us two large drumsticks of chicken stew. The marinade / sauce is VERY lightly flavored and I wish the seasoning could be stronger / more interesting. This is not the best Dominican food I ever had but I did appreciate the homey charm and the very low prices. For two servings of roast pork and one serving of chicken stew we paid $40 flat!! It was enough to serve our group of four. I don't know how many other places in Hell's Kitchen or other well-visited parts of Manhattan would be this affordable.

From the moment I walked in, I felt welcomed: everyone said hello, and my waiter was genuinely kind, speaking with me in English or Spanish, whichever I preferred. The atmosphere: Honestly, I felt like I was sitting in a restaurant in Puerto Rico. The decor, the little casita on top, Kola Champagne in the fridge, the right coffee. Every detail feels intentional and full of love. The food: * Drink: The Chi ChinRodriguez, tamarindo mixed with parcha. Refreshing and delicious. * Appetizer: The bacalaíto was a standout, crispy, very flavorful, not greasy at all, and topped with an amazing sauce. * Main: Roasted chicken with perfect skin, a side salad with a wonderful dressing, white rice made exactly the way it should be (it tasted just like my grandmother's), and beans. * Dessert: Café con leche and a slice of their cake. The frosting was awesome. The star of the show: The chef came out to say hello and talk with me. She was so warm and welcoming, and I was amazed to learn she's still the one behind the stove doing all the cooking. That kind of care shows up on every plate. Even though I arrived an hour late for my reservation, the hostess graciously found a way to seat us. They don't serve alcohol, but there's a liquor store around the corner, and with a $20 corkage fee, our bottle of sangria paired perfectly with dinner. The space is nostalgic, modern, and incredibly welcoming. Hearing La India playing while we enjoyed bacalaitos and pastelillos was the perfect touch. Our entrées: pastelón, blackened salmon, and La Gallina were all outstanding. The birthday celebration was unforgettable, with singing, maracas, and music, followed by delicious bread pudding and tres leches cake. Chef Francis even stopped by our table! My friend realized she had missed the blood sausage on the menu, and they surprised her with a complimentary order to take home. That thoughtful gesture perfectly captured the warmth and hospitality of Cocotazo. The standout dishes for me were the bacalaito and the pastelón, both are must-orders. I also recommend making a reservation in advance on Resy. If you're driving, street parking can be tough, but there's a convenient parking lot just one block away at 409 E. 110th St.

He is called the Lechon King and is an icon of the South Bronx. It's a place I've kept an eye on for some time, and I finally decided to give it a try. The truck operates only on Saturdays and Sundays, from around noon until six, or sometimes one. When we arrived, a line had already formed, which is a testament to how much people love this spot. Be prepared to wait about 2 hours--it's cash-only--but trust me, the experience is worth it. The most popular dishes are Lechon, Spanish Rice, and Octopus. The wait is long because the owner personally prepares each order, taking the time to chat with customers and even offer tastings. His warm personality and genuine customer service create a welcoming atmosphere. While my daughter and I waited in line, I noticed an older gentleman I'd seen in videos sharing wine with waiting customers. Seeing him there, pouring wine as we waited, made us feel part of a lively, friendly community. I had a cup of wine and couldn't help but feel like I was at a festive gathering. Everyone around us was talking and laughing like old friends, which made the wait more enjoyable than I expected. The owner's passion is evident -- he runs out of Lechon, gets it straight from the street-side oven, and takes time to take pictures, entertain customers, and share samples. I tried the Lechon at least twice before finally receiving my order, and it was well worth the patience. When it was our turn, the owner was still giving samples while he prepared our food. My daughter ordered Lechon and Spanish Rice, while I wanted to try everything. My order included Lechon, Spanish Rice, Octopus, Shrimp, Crabmeat, and garlic sauce. Although I don't eat seafood like shrimp or crabmeat, I was eager to try the Octopus. I ate around the other seafood, savoring each bite. The food was incredibly delicious -- the Lechon had a perfect balance of flavor, and the crispy skin was unforgettable. The plantain was tasty, cooked to perfection, and complemented beautifully by the garlic sauce's punch of flavor. The Octopus, prepared ceviche-style, was a new experience for me, and I'm glad I took the chance -- it was tasty. The rice was good, though I wished there was a bit more -- it seemed like a small portion. I would give this place a five-star rating for the incredible flavor and the warmth of the customer service. While cleanliness isn't perfect, the overall experience is truly heartwarming. If you find yourself there, I believe you'll leave feeling happy and satisfied.
