We walked around looking for a reasonably priced restaurant and stumbled into this place. I tried the white fish coconut ceviche called Tahiti (see picture). It was delicious and came with a side of semi stale potato chips. I think the humidity makes everything harder to stay crispy so I'll give them that one. I saw them hand carrying in ice and sodas so it's clearly a small joint with only a bar and a few tables inside which are open to a patio seating. I also tried a salmon dish with quinoa. There was a good mix of mushroom and cheese deliciousness in the quinoa. They also carry their namesake line of beer. Pilsner was actually pretty good. Haven't had a lot of local beers that have made an impression but this one stood out. Warning if you do sit outside and are prone to mosquito bites, either spray yourself with bug spray or sit away from the bushes. I got eaten alive when I was sitting there. read more

After going to three restaurants and being disappointed at their menus I stumble upon this corner street gem. This place is amazing!! Great fast and friendly service and the food is off the charts yummy. The fish ceviche is great, fresh and with great "leche de tiger". The pisco spurs are one of the best I've tried around the world, the little bit of cinnamon on top gives it a big lift. The lomo saltado is delicious, I prefer mine with rice but when in Brazil I had to try it with bread like the typically serve it. Well worth it!! read more

What a find. I'm a huge fan of freshly prepared Peruvian ceviche restaurants and, until now, hadn't found my go-to spot in Rio. This Ipanema location (there's a Jardim Botanico one as well) sits on an upscale corner in Ipanema and offers indoor and outdoor seating. Cute and petite, it's ideal if you're looking for a light and healthy bite or a well-made cocktail. La Carioca delivered expertly not only on the ceviche front, but also on my pisco sour search. The chef is Peruvian (or Colombian, can't remember), but whatever the case he did an impressive job with the two dishes we ordered (sadly I can't remember the names). La Carioca offers up hot dishes as well for those looking for something outside of the raw fish selection. I'll be back with updates. read more

I walked all the way from Copa to get some delicious ceviche. This place is fantastic and made me start looking up Peruvian restaurants when I was stateside. I've never had a Pisco Sour so refreshing with all of its frothy deliciousness like this one. Seriously- I see a trip to Peru in my near future! read more

The traditional ceviche (clasico) is really good, but you're going to overpay for what you get. Portion sizes are very small, and the price of the clasico (white fish ceviche) is R$27. It came with a piece of corn on the side and is exactly what you'd expect from a good ceviche restaurant. It was so good, we decided to try the mixto, which has fish, octopus, squid, shrimp, and scallops (for R$30). It was disappointing. The flavor of the scallop was way too strong, and the squid and octopus were basically flavorless. The drinks are also good, I had a whiskey sour, but like the ceviche it was very expensive (around R$27). There's more on the menu than the 10 or so types of cevice. The restaurant itself is comfortable if the weather is nice - you're basically sitting on a covered deck. If you really have a craving for ceviche, it's probably worth it, but for the price I won't be going back. read more

Sorry, no stars I'm going to start to let you know that I am Peruvian and unfortunately this restaurant give a bad name to the Peruvian cuisine. I asked for leche the tigre and the weiter brought me the ceviche's juice in a glass. Let me tell you the leche the tigre is water were you boil the shrimp and then seasoned with spices and come to the table warm. I manage two restaurants and my family owne two restaurant. I also asked for ceviche, that the waiter told me was a white fish, he didn't know the name, the plate arrive to the table, I have a bite and put back on the plate the fish wasn't fresh at all and taste like basa fish ( Vietnan farm raise fish ). In two minutes I ask for my bill and left that place. The manager or owner don't even attempt to see why I was leaving so abruptly. read more

This place is incredible. Located in the best part of Ipanema, this restaurant offers a typical peruvian food. I had the quinoto de los incas (quinoa risoto with salmon) and the oriental ceviche. They also produce their own beer (try La Carioca Weiss). read more

What a great way to finish our trip in Brazil with La Carioca!! We spent most of our nights in the neighborhood and lots of restaurants look good. This one is Peruvian and specializes in Ceviche. It is not big and you often have to wait. But you can easily order a nice cocktail while waiting for your table. My friends and I all went for a Pisco, I took the sour one, how delicious (Peruvian pisco as the base liquor + lime juice, syrup, ice, egg white, bitters)! The prices compared to other restaurants were low so we thought that portions would be small and therefore had to pick at least two things. Well, it was not necessary for most of the dishes but we enjoyed it anyway. I went for a mix of Ceviche allowing me to try 4 small portions of different ones. They were all fresh and tasty. One of them was just a little too spicy for me but still good. I also ordered a quinoa risotto with parmesan and grilled salmon, I loved it too. We all were really satisfied with our food and enjoyed our last night in Ipanema. As in most places we tried, the service is a bit slow and not always efficient but you get used to it. The atmosphere is very nice. Definitely a top choice in Rio! read more

Great Peruvian cevicheria! Everything made fresh to order, does get quite busy on the weekends so anticipate a crowd. Atmosphere is fantastic, indoor and outdoor seating. The mixto is my favorite by far, however the Mexicano and the Classico are great as well! If you're in the mood for a sangria then it's definitely a must!
