Delicious Carioca Pilsner!
Manny D.

If you like delicious ceviche and cold local beer you will love this place. Start with the ceviche mix that let's you sample four of their delicious flavors. And then move into the Thai flavored ceviche washing it all down with a nice cold pilsner they make themselves. Ahhhh delicious! It's a small cosy place so it's not good for big parties but perfect for a two- six peeps enjoy!

Great food and nice atmosphere. Located in the pleasant neighborhood of Jardim Botanico. Both times I was there I had good ceviche.

Estrelas da Babilônia is the full experience…read more First, there's getting there. Visiting Morro da Babilônia is one of the pacified favelas and while many taxi drivers will take you there without problem, you may get an uninitiated driver who's uncomfortable driving into the favela. Whatever the case, don't let this deter you. You can either get dropped off at the bottom of the favela where you can pay a mototaxi driver (they're mostly located at the start of Laderia Ary Barroso) to get you to the stairs that lead to Estrelas or you can have the taxista take you to the drop off point, about 5 minutes driving up the hill into the favela. It's about an 8-10 minute walk from there. Any hesitations you can ask locals for the "bar gringo." If you're looking for a party, you'll want to head there on a Friday or Saturday night around 10/11pm when the international travelers staying at the favela hostel make their way to the top for some beers, pizza, belgian fries, and dancing. The resident DJ, who attracts favela locals and tourists alike, mixes everything from Beyonce to Brazilian pop songs, seamlessly blending the two and catering to the many walks of life that find their way to Estrelas. The Belgian/Colombian couple that run the place are darlings. Bibi, the Colombian sweetheart, and Paul, the sweet-tempered Belgian, are welcoming as ever. You're also bound to find lots of Colombians running the bar! What makes this place special is partly the adventure of getting there (you feel 3 shades more confident for having ventured into a favela!) and then the magical experience of being there. The unmatched views of Rio alone are unreal and the delight of mixing and mingling with people from distant parts of the world is super unique. Not to mention the adorable (and wily!) favela kids running around. There's a festive and community spirit here that's really special. I feel more Brazilian after spending time there.

If you are adventurous and interested in gaining some perspective about life in a favela, this…read moreplace will not disappoint. The locals respect that you are willing to come here and we felt very safe. Getting there and finding it is another challenge. Basically it is at the top of the hill and your view of Copacabana beach is fantastic. Beers are cold and cheap. Street meat was delicious - I had the chorizo. The DJ had the dance floor hopping last night. Enjoy a unique and fun experience.

With over 20 plus cuts of meats, an incredible salad bar with fresh fruit, veggies, and mediterranean offerings, it's still only just beginning! Ask for rice (they have a couple different kinds), beans, fried onions, potatoes, and other side dishes that they will being to you. The fried onions were SO good too. I loved the tenderloin and the tri-tip but again, order lots of things and find out what you love. You put your circular card on the green side when you want to be asked to try various meats on skewers, or you can out it on the red side when you need a break or you're done. They have plenty of drinks like the fresh limeade which are not included in the price of the meal and their desserts are quite impressive too. But if you want to eat dessert like a local, ask for the grilled bananas and a side of ice cream and some cinnamon. My oh my. And be careful. They will not stop sending bananas unless you finally put up the white flag. They have locations plenty in the US and other parts but they dont hold a candle to the ones in Rio. There is one in Barra with a great view of the lagoon and another in Botafogo with a marvelous view of the bay and Sugar Loaf!!!

Compared to the states they had different items at the bar that we usually see at fogo in the states. For one they have one or 2 extra types of smoked fish. They had different fruit offerings like dragon fruit kiwi and grapes. Didn't get the prosciutto since it did have a few fruit flies on it. There were different offerings of meat compared to the states. The beef rib is definitely better than Houston's. The best was probably the prime rib or ribeye steak. The cheese balls were definitely different they are fried. The service was very attentive even for English speakers. The picanha steak could be better. Overall excellent. The dessert was delicious.

Dom Mário is hands down the best restaurant on Ilha Grande in Abraão!…read more Make a reservation if you're coming with a large group or on the island during the busy season or holiday week, as they don't have all that many tables. You start off with a bread basket and homemade butter with herbs and they had lots of English music playing on the speakers throughout the night. That butter though. Try at least one of the many caipirinha or caipiroska varieties for 12-14 reais each. I tried the maracuja com gengibre (passion fruit/ginger) and maracuja com manjericão (passion fruit/basil) and loved both of them. If you're a foreigner ie non-Brazilian, let them know if you prefer more or less cachaça in your caipirinha to get the drink of your taste. Vegetarian dishes are very sparse here, though my waitress did mention they had a veggie risotto that wasn't on the menu and they may have others as well. They are mostly known for their seafood dishes. I enjoyed my filet with gorgonzola sauce too. The restaurant is al fresco with a covered roof. Some of the tables are in the sand, so you can feel like you're on the beach even though you're a few steps away from the sounds of the waves crashing in. All around, a great experience and not so in your face of a tourist trap like the beachfront restaurants.
