We walked twenty minutes in the rain to dine at this restaurant. It was worth the effort because we enjoyed the food very much. We ordered (1) House style grilled cod and (2) Fish Moqueca. This is like a stew; fish simmered with tomatoes, onion and garlic. Served with white rice and toasted cassava flour. We also ordered bread since it is not complimentary. The bread is served with butter and olives. The service was excellent. Although we had a language barrier, Google translate on my cell phone was a great help. Since we had ordered two dishes to share the waiter portion out the meal for us. That was a nice touch. Everything was delicious. read more

This review was for our visit back on December 18th, 2023. Arrived around 8PM (only a short walk from our hotel). It's a relatively small spot, and we ended up waiting about 30 minutes. Well worth the wait, though on the pricier side of restaurants. Great, great service and language wasn't much of a barrier. We ended up ordering more than we had planned because the food was tasty! It's the best restaurant we've tried so far in Brazil! I usually prefer other types of food over European cuisine, but this Portuguese restaurant completely won me over. The food was absolutely amazing -- we had the cod and the shrimp, both cooked simply but full of flavor, just how we like it. Our server, Lopes, was outstanding! Super friendly, attentive, and made sure everything was perfect. He speaks English and a bit of French -- just enough to get you what you need and make you laugh along the way . His great attitude and charm made us feel like royalty! The atmosphere is cozy and authentically Portuguese, with beautiful wood finishes and a great vibe overall. Best meal we had in Rio! We tried their famous fish and shrimp moqueca and boy...it did not disappoint!! Highly recommended for people who's traveling in Rio. We also had the Portuguese egg tart (pastel de Nata) for dessert. We had some stores selling this dessert in LA, but this one here was very good! They provided ground cinnamon to sprinkle on top of the egg tart....totally brought it to the next level. Never knew before, this is the "right" way to have the Portuguese egg tart haha Unforgivable night!! read more

We heard Egg Tarts were good from the review so we tried and they are absolutely the world's best... and good price to boot. We can't help to go back the second day just for the tarts!! Yummy. We will miss it for sure from now on. We ordered their famous Fish and Shrimp Moqueca (half portion), Fried Calamari, drinks and palenta. They were to die for... JUST Superb. Shrimp and fish had their own flavor, sweet and fresh. They are so good... it will be difficult to recreate. Then the CHIMIchua!!! SO good. The waiter tried very hard to tell us what's in there and recipe to make them. Just really friendly. We also had Sea base (can't be half portion) but one dish to be shared. I think with the portions they have... Half portion is great to be shared. My husband and his friend had Beef Filet Mignon. They loved it. It's TWO pieces so I helped him a little. So tender and tasty. NOW, let's talk about the services: One of the waiters tried everything to help, use a book and picture to tell us how they prepared and what are in the dish. We just got off HOlland America cruise and their services in Alfaia is just as good if not better. We were treated like royalties and services were top notched. In that atmosphere... i feel like i was in heaven. IT's a must visit place... I would order everything half portion to share so I can try more dishes next time. For four of us... we each spent about $45 including drinks, and tax and tips. If you travel to COPAcobana beach... do visit this place and say hi to the head waiters (in portogese.) Sorry. This place was simply amazing to the last drop. We initially came here just to get some egg tarts. And the service and the hospitality we got was absolutely phenomenal. They made sure that we were so well taken care of bringing napkins to outside and cinnamons. So we decided to come back here for lunch two days later and the service was through the roof. How they serve was good as if I were back in some small village in Portugal. Their food was delicious (cod and shrimp in some tomato sauce) and again, egg tarts (not as hot this time) was to die for. Date of Visit: 4/9/16 Came across Alfaia via Yelp and decided to give it a shot. It's a quaint little space with a very homey feel, and the A/C was a welcome change from the scorching heat that day. Specializing in seafood and meat, my friend and I ordered the local catch (Cod, I believe) and I had the steak special (cut of meat was not clear). Overall the food was fine, and the portions were decent, but there was a heavy lack of any seasoning. *I will make the caveat that I was not impressed by much of the Brazilian food, so it may be my particular taste buds. Great food, but I must warn you that this place is much pricier than it looks! Entrees are around $50 US per person!! I was a big fan of the grilled octopus (portugese style = with tomato sauce I beleive). It was perfectly cooked, fresh, and a bigger piece than I'd ever seen in the states. Traditional Portuguese restaurant in Copacabana. They are known for their Bacalhau dishes. Favorites are Gomes de Sá, Brás and Patuscada. The full order of Patuscada comes with 4 pieces of bacalhau, fried garlic, potatoes, two hard boiled eggs and broccoli. My favorite! Yes the pieces of fish in my opinion have decreased in size, but still fresh and delicious. Bacalhau for many may be saltish, but when prepped and cooked properly is amazing. you generally will see older couples and familys eating on weekends (especially sundays). But the service is good, watiers are attentive and know all the regular customers. Popular appetizers are their freshly made bolinho de bacalhau and sardine dish. Bolinho de bacalhau right out of the fryer, crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside (and not full of potato as in some other places). Dessert - I always go for the Toucinho do céu. its a portuguese almond cake. (if you are allergic to eggs - especially egg yolk, you may want to pass on the desserts). Portuguese treats are known for having tons of eggs. The restaurant space is small, so if you are a big group go in early or try calling to make a reservation. read more

They have a very professional staff and 1st class quality food but their wine selection is not that great. A good option to avoid the turistic crowds of Copacabana and eat nice food.
