It's insane that i haven't reviewed this place until just now, as I've been here 5 times now and absolutely love this place! The steaks here are insane, however my favorite is certainly the Picania - This is a cut you can't get in the US (at least not outside of Brazilian restaurants or butchers) but it's just perfect. They do serve a number of sides, the applesauce one, the carrots, the mashed potatoes, and the risotto were my favorites. In fact i think i asked for 3+ servings of the risotto. For dessert they also had Chocolate Mousse - So good! I REALLY hope this place makes it, i'll be back every time i'm in Brazil read more

My favorite spot for MEAT in Rio; which says a LOT!!! :). This spot has a spin on the traditional churrascaria where meat is passed endlessly until you explode. Here, you select the protein i.e. meat cut that you want; which each and every time is cooked to perfection and the quality of the meat is the highest. Then, they pass around sides, like grilled veggies, mashed potatoes, etc. until you are gorged! I have dined here a dozen times and it never fails to impress. Pretty good streaks and as many of the others have stated, you pick your protein and get unlimited sides (sorta like a reverse rodízio). This means there's a lot of food and you can probably skip the starters. The meat was very good but for the price I was a bit disappointed in the prime rib (it looked more like a bone-in ribeye cut to me). My wife's tenderloin cut was much tastier and half the price. Next time I'll probably go with one of the cheaper cuts. Overall still a very good meal and worth a visit! read more

Excellent little steakhouse on a cute street. Ordered the porterhouse for 2 and was sufficiently full. The quality of the meat was excellent and well cooked. The endless sides were also great. This was by far our favorite restaurant on a recent trip to Rio. The steaks were wonderfully cooked, large, and of a very high quality. We started with a few caipirinhas and the steak tartare as an appetizer. Both the drinks and the app was very good. We then ordered the Bisteca for two as our main course. The Bisteca is 900 g (2 lbs) of tenderloin and was amazing! We ordered it medium and it came out more medium-rare, which was fine with us. I was a little concerned they may cook their meet more the way argentenia is known for (overdone) but this was definately not the case. In addition to the amazing meat, there were about 8 side dishes that were unlimited and served rodizo style by waiters throughout the meal. Service was prompt and attentive without being overbearing. Our favorite sides were the seafood rice, purred potatoes, julienne vegetables. Prices were very reasonable for the area and much less than in a comparable US steakhouse given the favorable exchange rate. read more

Great spot. I describe it as a traditional churrascaria meets more intimate French bistro. Not sure which I liked better--the steak or the sides. I ordered the sirloin strip--though fatty, quite tasty. The sides were out of this world with the potatoes and mixed vegetables (carrots and green beans, cooked in butter, garlic, and parsley that gave them a unique and distinct flavor). Had two glasses of Malbec and started off with a great green salad. Ordered the couvert and they brought out complimentary potato chips. Finished the meal off with an espresso with the total bill coming to $72-74 US (would have easily cost more than $100 in NYC or Chicago. Yet another great spot in Rio....puts the food back where I live in San Diego to shame. read more

I wasn't sure if I wanted to go here and wait an hour for a table - but boy am I grateful that my husband insisted we go!! We put our name in with the hostess, were quoted 45mins-1 hour wait, we ended up exploring the neighborhood and having a few drinks, when we returned a little over an hour later and the hostess seated us promptly. This is a fun area to walk around and lots of options for pre-dinner drinks. The menu was pretty simple- there are salads and appetizers but all you really need to be happy and satisfied is; 1. pick a cut of steak they run about R$90-120 (a few other meat options like chicken, lamb and I think octopus--but why wouldn't you get a steak!?) 2. pick a sauce that is served on the side not on top of your meat (*or be clever like the table next to us and ask for all of the sauces on the side for the table*) and then 3. sit back and wait for the meal to happen! The side dishes all come with your main meat or if you want to order only sides (without meat) you can do so for R$76. The side dishes are so delicious and so much fun! It seems like they change frequently from what I have read previous reviewers say. So again; all you need to know is that there are a lot of them, they are served out of cast iron pans by waiters in the cutest French waiter uniforms that circulate around the restaurant, and you'll love them-there is something for everyone. Five Mouth-Watering Life-Altering Stars The BF and I were in Rio for NYE and after extensive research CT Boucherie was high on my must-see list. We went on a Saturday evening, arriving around 7:30 PM. We waited approximately 35 minutes for our table. There was a slight language barrier with the maitre d', but it was completely workable. You essential pick your protein and sauce, and then there are several rounds of unlimited sides. The menu has a la carte appetizers, salads and dessert. (Thankfully, CT Boucherie had an English menu, because I was concerned with the amount of international data I was spending on Google Translate and Google Image to assist with my ordering.) I had the Herb Crusted Filet Mignon and the BF had the Lamb Chops. The Filet consisted of two 2-3 oz. pieces, with a glob of some type of herb and breadcrumb paste on top. I opted for the black pepper sauce (not sure the proper name) and if was an AMAZING accompaniment, even though I typically prefer my meat unadulterated and rarely like condiments of any kind. I tasted the BF's lamb and it was literally like butter -- succulent, moist and flavorful. Now the sides . . . I'm generally extremely particular about my food. But because of the language barrier, I had to use my best judgment in saying yay or nay to the sides as they were offered. I basically took a leap of faith and tried mostly everything. The Polenta will change your life. Just thinking about it, I feel weak. It was so tasty and a perfect combination of smoothy and slightly gritty/crunchy. Sigh. The Chayote Au Gratin was also very delicious, and unlike anything I had ever experienced. From there . . . It was a little challenging to decipher precisely what I was eating. There was a mashed potato of some sort that perhaps included pulverized cashews and also chunk apple sauce/mash. Overall, everything was extraordinarily tasty and I had two services of most everything. In the end, my plate was a mess and everything was touching (yes, I'm one of those people), but totally worth it. We had the Guava Glazed Cheesecake for dessert. It was a softer texture than expected, but the Guava Coulis was mmmm mmmm good. Overall, CT Boucherie is a must do in Rio. Some of the staff spoke English and they had a translated menu, so we were not completely at a loss. Plus, the price was fair given the service, quality and taste (we paid $175 USD including gratuity and a bottle of wine). The service and overall experience exceeded my expectations. My boyfriend and I were in Rio for a week and was impressed by this place so we went back on our last day. The first visit was great but we were quite upset the second visit due to bad service. I gave this place a four star because as a first-time customer, CT Boucherie gives you lots of surprises with the unlimited well-prepared unique dishes, e.g. if you order a steak it comes just with the stake so you get your mashed potato and veggies from the side dishes that the water come serve every 8 minutes or so. I had never seen something like that which was very cool. We had the watermelon beef carpaccio for appetizer; the combination of refreshing fruit and meat was very nice. The main dishes were good, tasted great but not something I would go oh wow. Again it was the side dishes that stole the show. The dessert wasn't that amazing and there were few options. Perhaps because we were already familiar with the side dishes, the second visit did not provide any more wow factor. I wonder whether they change the menu for the side dishes regularly because they were the exact same ones as last time. The disaster happened when our waiter knocked over my boyfriend's wine which spilled all over my dress! Thank god I was able to clean it off with lemon water that the waiter provided. However, what was really unpleasantly surprising was that none of them apologised! That's right, no sorry at all. He also did not refill my boyfriend's wine and charged it fully on the bill...Normally in nice restaurants one may expect at least another replacement glass since the water knocked off most of the glass, or at least a sorry... Thus, overall good food but service not great for non-Portuguese speakers/tourists. read more

On both Rio trips we had to visit CT. By far one of be best restaurants ever ! The first time I had steak and this last time I had salmon . Both were amazing ! First they bring some crunch bread with the most tasty butter and homemade kettle chips to snack on. After you pick your steak or fish they come around offering you the tastiest sides. Some of my favorites are potato purée, vegetables with cheese , baked tomatoes with Parmesan cheese , rice ( not just any rice ) , Roasted veggies , beans .. to be honest I loved everything . I can't even remember all the the sides ! But it was unlimited . They continue to come around to offer you sides . This is one place everyone should go at least one time! The entire experience was truly unbelievable! While yes, it is technically a French restaurant, it definitely has a strong Brazilian flare. The atmosphere here is great. It's a small, cozy upscale restaurant in Leblon. They have excellent steaks of the highest quality, but what really makes this place stand out is what comes with the steaks: an endless parade of side dishes. The sides include: stuffed tomatoes, ratatouille, quinoa risotto, an amazing cheesy eggplant dish that I can't remember the name of, puréed sweet potatoes, amazing farofa, and much more! The wine list, while expensive, includes some great wines from around the world that will accompany your steak well, and they have some really great desserts. Among my friends we split a brownie (which comes with ice cream) and a crème brûlée, both of which were top notch. The price is a bit steep, but you will certainly not regret eating here! read more

I was in town for a few days and this was by far the best place I ate at. Luckily I was with locals that knew the owner because there was a line to get a seat. hands down, this was my favourite place I ate dinner at during my 4 day visit to Rio. The only regret I have is that I didn't discover this fact until my second last night. The service here was exceptional, and the steaks were all cooked as ordered and seasoned perfectly. What put the restaurant over the top were the side dishes. mashed potatoes, quinoa risotto, pumpkin puree, ratatouille, greek rice, and many others. all delicious, and an unlimited amount. The sides were so plentiful and so good that we were worried that they weren't included in the meal. considering the sides without a steak costs $72, it seemed crazy that you could get a steak for $78-$100 and also get the sides. But, when we got the bill, we were all very happy to see that they were included. Anyways, great service and great food. Definitely visit this restaurant if you're in the area. read more

This place is getting popular with the gringos due to word of mouth, and I can understand why. Meat and sides. Seriously, what is not to love? The setup here is that you order a cut of meat and then you get unlimited sides. Seriously. As much as you could possibly want. You can also order the unlimited sides without the meat for R$72. The meat adds on average R$20 which is totally worth it. However, there was an option where the meat add-on was still in the R$ 70s range. I don't know how that is profitable for them, but our gain! The sides were faroffa, risotto, potatoes, sauteed vegetables, polenta, etc. I think there was more but I can't remember. Anyway, pig out! read more

We were in Rio only for a week and unfortunately didn't get here soon enough. We only had a chance to try this place twice and would have gone back for more had we had the chance. The steaks were amazing! Juicy, flavourful and done to perfection. However, the highlight for me were the sides. Servers come around offering different options: quinoa risotto, ratatouille, rice with various fruits and vegetables. But the best was their mashed potatoes. The texture was just phenomenal and had such a different flavour than what we are used to in North America. Apparently they use a special kind of yam that is grown in Brazil. I was really tempted to ask the server to leave the pot at our table. Luckily he realized how much we loved it and came back...four times. We have recommended this place to half a dozen of our friends who have made it to Rio since our trip. They have all equally loved it. Good very good steaks. The best one in my opinion is Bisteca Fiorentina (it is huge, for 2 people). Then, after you choose the steak, they cook it and bring to the table, with many options of side dishes that come fresh from the kitchen every 2 minutes.. The waiters go around the restaurant serving the tables with these freshly made side dishes. I love the pure de batata baroa, and the Chuchu gratinado. It is pricey.. I'm a really big fan of this place. High quality meats with unlimited sides that are quite tasty in their own right at a very reasonable price especially with current exchange rate of 3 to 1 (~R$90 not including taxes or drinks). This is actually my favorite place to go for meat in this city. The filet mignon with herb crust, lamb ribs, picanha...I've tried almost every cut on the menu and they are all great. Not to mention, you can choose as many sauces as you want and they are excellent. Au poivre, bordelaise, bbq... Really nice if you like sauce on meat as I do. Service is excellent. Decor is nice. One of my current favorites in Rio for the killer combination of high quality and delicious food at a fair price. I pretty much always order picanha down here since it's a great cut that I'm not really sure is served in the US. Medium steak basically perfectly cooked with the nice strip of fat down the side and well seasoned. From there you are offered a slew of sides portioned table-side in the brazilian style (Rodizio). Greek rice, white rice, mashed potatoes, pumpkin puree, hot applesauce, baked tomatoes, ratatouille, and a few other vegetable options. It's fine, about half of the rodizio dishes are really good, the meat is, well, it's a strong mediocre. I do love the service, the waiters are all really wonderful, friendly, and knowledgeable. But, overall frankly, I don't really get it. For better meat I'd rather go to Giuseppe Grill around the corner, and for infinitely better French cuisine, I'd rather go to Formidable. But, you know, if mediocre is your thing, and you want to see and be seen, I suppose you could do worse. read more

Of all of Claude Troisgros restaurants in Rio this is by far my favorite. Love the concept, you order a protean and the side dishes are served "rodizio" style. It´s an all you can eat smorgasbord. I´m crazy about the chayote with cheese gratin ... chayote never tasted better. I usually order the tall chateaubriand, always cooked to my liking. The staff is attentive, specially Micaella the front door hostess. She is always cool and kind even when she is being bullied by clients looking for a table. One word of advice, avoid the Fiorentina steak for two that the wait staff sometimes recommends ... it tastes like seasoned cardboard. read more

They brought these huge plates with our steak on it and some grilled banana slices and thats it. We thought that the price was kind of steep for just a steak, but then 2 minutes later, a lady came around with a side dish and scooped some onto our plate. Delicious. Then another person. Delicious. Then another person. Then another. Then another. etc..... I think there were 12 or 13 total by the end of it. And if you wanted, the first lady came back around again if we wanted seconds. Amazing meal. The steak was very good. The little patio was just perfect as well. Wine list was pricey. The rest of the meal was like $40 or 50 USD. Also, for those with celiac, the staff was careful to verify what sauces and sides were gluten-free (there were plenty), so my meal was enjoyed without worry.
