My first real restaurant visit in France was here. I was not only pleasantly surprised by the food but by the staff and decor. My review is about the food, staff and decor.
I visited this place with two friends of mine. As I don't speak French I got some help with ordering from them. But should you come here without such friends the staff is more than capable of speaking English and they are very friendly in explaining should you ask how something is prepared. I would recommend this place to anyone non-french speaking included.
I did not order any appetizers but I was given the typical bread and butter combo, nothing special to mention about. For main course I had gratin raviolis and mushrooms. The raviolis were really really tiny, smaller than your typical domestic post stamp, but yet they were perfectly done. The raviolis were nicely filled with tasty but not overpoweringly and the most amazing thing, perhaps, was the fact that they were beautifully closed and cooked. I've done raviolis my self so I know the hassle, skills and time it takes to do your normal raviolis - to do these tiny raviolis requires some extraordinary skills. The plating was absolutely nice. The portion was a good size even for a big eater like me and the crusting was just perfect: extremely light yet crusty enough. The sauce and the mushrooms all were extremely nicely combined.
For dessert I had Crème brûlée, which according to the staff was home made and from fresh ingredients - even the vanilla was from the actual plant. I've seen so many variations of creme brulee in my life that I had high hopes for this. And I was not disappointed. It was perfect. The top was nicely caramelized and the creme itself was just so tasty. Amount of vanilla was really good and the size of the portion was rather big.
The decor was surprisingly hip. Well kept place with nice furniture made me feel like I was almost at home; not your typical restaurant or pub. read more
