On July 6 there were 11 of us that came in around 12 my mom and myself and 9 other friends Mom and I ordered different things on the menu as well as everyone else well the next day I found out my friends 6 of them got food poisoning mom and I felt fine so that's one place we'll never eat there again one of the wife's who's husband had food poisoning went there a couple days later and confronted somebody in charge and his attitude was that he wasn't really concerned about what happened and that would not really affect the restaurant read more

I came to visit my grandma and we decided to go here for dinner. The food was decent. I will say, I felt with how busy it was, it wasn't very organized. We had been waiting there for over 15 minutes before the host took our name down. They had put other people down before us, who had walked in after us. They are allegedly under new management, when we went in tonight we were two of three ppl sitting in our section at the bar. The bartender was so rude and dismissive, it was apparent we were "bothering him". They also keep their red wine in the fridge. The service hasn't gotten any better with new management. This corner shop has a wonderful inviting feel to it. We came on a busy Saturday evening of Michigan Tech's First Year Student move in weekend. The place was full with a line. We waited around 15-20 minutes for a table, and another 15 for our waiter to take our drink and food order. There was one waiter for the entire restaurant and he was hustling!!! We didn't mind our wait times and enjoyed the time to chat and eat warm chips and salsa. Our food came within 5 minutes of ordering and it was hot, fresh, and wonderful. Kudos to the staff for working HARD to serve so many, and to the cooks for a wonderful filling meal, I had the Arroz Con Pollo. We will be back another time when we visit our Tech student. read more

This is not cheap, Mexican food, it's very good slightly pricey, Mexican food! We had a delightful waiter from South Africa very nicely told us about his culture and demonstrated some of the South African click language. I hadn't been in here for a few years, but my wife wanted some good Mexican food and I remembered this place near our hotel. We got take-out and enjoyed the food a lot. I got a combination plate (taco, chile relleno, and something else) that was great. There's some cheese sauce they use that has a ton of flavor. Great, authentic Mexican food 'way up north.' Who would have thought? Chips and salsa served fresh to the table--could have been a bit spicier, but I think you can order hot salsa. They have a plethora of combination plates that were impressive. Like the ground meat and steak dishes over the pulled chicken, which did not have as much flavor, a bit bland. The Mexican fried ice cream was heavenly. Wonderful atmosphere--transported to Mexico with the colorful interior and Mexican artwork and our server was nice, and the food came out fast. I love la cantina. The chips and salsa are delicious so what more could you want? Beyond that the food is amazing and comes in very large portions which I love and the margaritas are fantastic!! It's so fun to come here with friends and get a margarita tower while enjoying the decor. I also love how nice every employee has been to me. Once while finishing a tower one high fived me. They have all you could want out of a good meal. Definitely my favorite restaurant in Hancock. I can't wait until the next time I get to eat here. read more

I am sadly disappointed! It has gone down hill since my first visits. In my view, cleanliness is super important! The windows need to be washed with a squeegee and a towel, this squeegee about a foot-wide would make cleaning the windows a snap. The fly strip for the fruit flies is disgusting! Get a "blue-light-zapper" machine. Wipe down the bar--don't leave crumpled napkins and such. Clean under the Margherita maker machines. Pay attention to the kitchen and the cooking! Keep it simple, but use real cheese, etc. Fresh chopped vegetables, etc. Do a daily spot check to ensure super cleanliness! Fix up and straighten up the bar, behind the bar. Be ready to make mixed drinks. Build up the clientele, and then keep it! We need you to succeed! Get it back to what I first experienced! read more
