I'm probably biased because I'd had my heart set on a different restaurant, which was closed for a holiday. We hastily decided on La Cantina since it was on the same street and open, and advertised daily specials on a chalk board.
We were seated and given menus, but not the daily specials. By the time the one person working the front of house came around to take our orders and I asked for the specials menu, I was starving and rushed. So when he suggested the tagilatelle with porcini in a parmesan crust, I said yes. Jimmy has just picked the spaghetti and meatballs off the wall. That interaction was the only thing with any speed at this place.
The food was just ok. The portion was huge, and the sauce was good, but the parmesan crust was overly charred. Jimmy's spaghetti and meatballs were quite unimpressive - dry meatballs, dry noodles, and flavorless sauce.
It then took quite a while to get the check as well. When the french tourists were also upset at the time it took, you know that it's taking too long to get the check (not just that we're antsy Americans). read more
