If you know me, ordering Mexican food is one of my biggest fear…read more.. not because I don't have Spanish-English dictionary installed on my iPhone:P Anyway, I still managed my fear went in again after finishing 3 beef tacos. (yes, I said Beef taco when I ordered it) Turtle: yes I saw it but...I don't know how to pronounce "Cabeza". Frog : Ask for "ca-beh-saw" tacos, head meat. turtle: ohhhh so...2nd time I successfully ordered 5 cabeza tacos. so damn good!!! Totally worth additional 10 miles drive (from I-99) from outside, it looked dark and empty... like those scenes in horror movies that when you walk in, you scared by the suddenly show up employee don't get wrong, inside is actually very clean and neat. I was the only customer in it at 1pm. The girl who made my tacos was quiet, shy (like me), and fast. It was hot and wrapped in the foil. I never had such flavors before...it looks simple but it left King Taco wayyyyyyy behind.... If you travel between LA-SF...its very close to 46 (Famoso Hwy) and to both I-5 and I-99 are around 10 miles. Because it's close to HWY so the driving time is actually not too bad...I got there in 12 mins after exiting I-99 NOW I wish I can have more "ca-beh-saw" tacos ....

They are now offering home made tortillas fresh off the presses and they are fantastic. Eat inside or out, its good either way. And if you want to stock up on bottled soft drinks they have a full selection at reasonable prices.

I've never run into any situation where not speaking Spanish was an impediment. Things I find particularly worthwhile. Produce tends to be cheaper than most supermarkets. tomatoes, mangos and assorted fresh chiles are good values. In the fall, 'tunas' or cactus pears are available. Fresh foods - the grilled chicken is a favorite - a guilty pleasure for me is 'chicharron con carne' which is deep fried pork skin with a strip of meat attached, think a 6 inch pork rind with deep fried pork meat. Closest thing I've had to that is pork cracklins in Louisiana. Corn tortillas are freshly made. Store made mini tostadas, about 3 in in diameter are something I haven't seen around, which I prefer to the normal sized tostadas. Also, Sonoran style flour tortillas brought in from Phoenix ...so much better than the machine made flour tortillas. Common in AZ, this is the only place I've seen them in Kern County. 'Telera' bread, which is used for Mexican style sandwiches aka tortas, grab a few. This is the closest I've found to the Caribbean style soft loaves to make Cuban pressed sandwich and paninis. A individual serving of tres leches cake - not overly sweet - also tops it off.
