And the only reason Windy City Massage is getting two stars instead of one is because my masseuse was very kind. I'll start by sharing that me and friends stayed at the Kimpton Gray and knew we wanted to get massages during our stay. When we arrived, the front desk staff told us that Windy City Massage was an in-house spa and when we asked how to make an appointment she said very clearly, "they aren't associated with the Kimpton Gray, you can contact them directly for an appointment and more information." We should've taken that as a sign. The website is a little sketch, you have to pay when you book so we decided to call and leave a voicemail. When they called back, we scheduled for the next morning at 8am. Since it was a massage, we were fine with the early morning. When we arrived, the room was a large event space with a reception table and chair, and a few worn chairs and coffee table. There were two massage rooms off of the larger room so we assumed that's where the massage would take place. When the masseuses came out for us, they were super kind. We asked about the free upgrade with the Yelp check in and they said the only two available were foot or scalp massage so we each chose one. To make a long review short, the massage experience was not great. The acoustics were horrible so I could hear everything happening in the waiting area while in my massage. The massage was very basic; the foot massage "upgrade" was included in the 50 minutes versus the additional 20 minutes advertised; the music was playing from a cell phone; there was no carpet so the chair that the masseuse used was loudly dragged across the floor several times. Overall it was not at all a good or relaxing experience and not worth the cost. The Kimpton should to be associated with this business.

Getting a chair massage was at times awkward here, as many of the chairs were in plain view of people walking through to the table rooms. I once heard my CEO come through while I was getting a chair massage. I was on my lunch hour and not playing hooky, but being recognized while you're drooling into the chair isn't my idea of privacy. Got a table massage here once and the rooms are so cramped the massage therapist couldn't really get around the table easily. It caused a bit of a distraction from completely zenning out. The nail in the coffin visit I was getting a chair massage and the therapist wrenched my back so bad, doing non-massage stretches, that she tied my back up in knots and I had to go to the chiropractor twice just to get back to normal. Employee turnover here was high as well, not a good sign.
