I had their turkey cheese warm croissant and it's not as good as i remembered. The price was also very expensive compared to before. I also got two cookies. They used to put cookies in its own bag but here she just tossed them in the brown bag with my croissant. The cookies didn't taste as fresh or as good so I was very disappointed. The Chinese Chicken Salad was all romaine lettuce. There was maybe 3 or 4 pieces of chicken & about the same nuts. Whatever happened to Chinese cabbage & noodles. These should all be included in a CHINESE CHICKEN SALAD. I rate this item a 2 out of 5. I will never buy this item again. read more

Stopped by La bou for lunch while out Christmas shopping around noon on a Friday. It wasn't too busy, which was nice. I ordered the turkey sandwich with avocado on sourdough. One thing to note is that the menu on the wall lists the sandwich names but doesn't explain what comes on each one. I like to know what's on my sandwich, so I had to ask an employee, who was helpful and explained it to me. The sandwich itself was really good. The sourdough bread was super soft and fresh, and everything tasted great. Their pastries looked tempting, but I didn't end up getting one this time. Overall, I was happy with my meal and service was quick. Would definitely stop by again. read more

I pretty much get the same thing at every La Bou I visit. A smoked turkey on croissant, a Chinese chicken salad no peanuts, and 1/2 a baguette sliced with a dill sauce. Today I skipped the salad. The sandwich was fresh and delicious. Their baguette is good, but their dill sauce is amazing!! Baguette and dill sauce is MANDATORY. I love that most Labou locations have Thai tea.(one of my favorite drinks in the world) I get their tomato soup which doesn't sound special but - IT IS. You can do half soup, salad or sandwich during lunchtime (which I lived off of when I was going to school) it's the perfect lunch spot. The staff are always so nice and the restaurant is clean. Had lunch here today and really enjoyed our food! Looking forward to going back this week! We had the mom's chicken salad on sourdough (bread was very fresh) and it was fantastic! The eggplant sandwich cold not he panini and it was a hit. So much flavor! Had it on a baguette again fresh bread. The Asian noodle salad which was good but could use a little salt. I have not been at this La Bou in maybe 2 years. I regret saying that it has really gone down hill. I ordered a chocolate croissant and a ham and cheese croissant and a cup of coffee. The ham and cheese croissant had burnt cheese on the outside and the ham inside was very dry. I have been a La Bou customer for over 25 years and before this, everything I have ordered was delicious. My chocolate croissant was also not good. Not as bad as the ham and cheese croissant but not as good. I'm sure the difference is new owner/management. I'm actually posting this view to find out if others noticed a difference in their food. The noodles today are definitely not the normal noodles they use. They are kind of a mix between spaghetti and chow mein noodles. And there is very little flavor. Just taste oily. The blueberry scone I got didn't have it's normal crunch. They tasted like day old scones. Still good but just not the quality I'm used to. read more

My Chinese chicken salad was fine but my friends eggplant sandwich came on bread that was so stale, it crumbled in her hands. When she took it back the server was defensive and hesitant. Not what it used to be and that makes me sad. I have been a customer since the mid eighties (yes, you read that right), and the last 15 or so years that I have lived in Placer County I have seen the local La Bou locations change hands multiple times. The ONE thing that always remained consistent however was the creamy dill dressing. So you can imagine how my heart sunk when I found it was no longer as good as it used to be. I eagerly walked in and ordered half of a salad and half of a sandwich. The tab came to about $13. That's for half of a simple green salad (with disappointing dill dressing) and a sandwich on half of a croissant. I added cheese and was surprised that I was charged extra for it (almost a dollar more). Aside from the dill dressing not being what it once was and the Dijon mustard spoiling the taste of sandwich, everything tasted ok. Not great, just ok. After not having been there for a couple years, I recently stopped in. Bought four different pastries. I was shocked at how the quality had gone down. The almond croissant didn't even remotely taste the same. The texture of the pastrie was completely different than in the past. The chocolate croissant tasted as if it was previously frozen. I should have gotten the message when at 8am on a Saturday morning there was no one in the store. They really need to get it together or sadly it will fade away. read more

You can tell that every single meal is made with love and good quality food. I also love ordering a half baguette and a dill sauce on the side. Whatever you do, you MUST order dill sauce!!! There was one staff person working the drive-up window ,leaving the front counter deserted. I took my time checking out the products..trying to decide what I wanted. Went here for the first ever. For Customer service the server never smiled and had ear pods in her ears, we needed to repeat everything to her. I got a turkey and cheese croissant, the breading was dry and hard all the way around and had 1 slice of turkey in it, no cheese at all. While I took my disabled mother to the restroom a worker cleared both of our full drinks . When I asked they brought an entire tray of dirty table dishes and handed the drinks back dripping with other people's coffee/food. It's been a really long time since I've been to La Bou. They closed the one closest to my home, so I had to drive a distance to come here. I was craving scones. At around 9:15am they were OUT of practically everything for breakfast. ZERO scones, ZERO fruit croissants.... The bakery case looked completely empty. Seemed sort of early to me for them to be out of everything. I ordered a plain croissant and an apple cake to go for myself and a friend. The apple cake was cold as ice and very hard, almost burnt. I used to work at one in high school. I went from coffee maker to pep and sandwich and salad maker, to register and manager. They've closed a lot of stores. But, I know that everything is fresh for that day. From the baker who baked everything from croissants to sourdough at 4am. The dressings are hand made. The Asian, the Dill, which is Hidden valley Ranch with a ton of dill added to it, the vinaigrette dressing. The fruit is fresh. The cookies are fresh. That's why I still eat there. Supporting small, privately owned, businesses is important to me during this time. I understand that places need to raise prices to stay afloat, etc. however, compromising the quality shouldn't come with that. My "Chinese Chicken Salad" today was less than desirable. It appeared as though a bag of salad was dumped into a plastic container, an extremely sweet dressing was placed in a side container, and maybe 2 teaspoons of chicken added to it. What my salad lacked, considering it's a "Chinese chicken salad" was any resemblance of what it's title indicates it should be. It was missing mandarin oranges, won ton strips, sesame seeds, etc. For the $9.95, I'm not expecting a gourmet salad, but I expect that it at least appear to be appetizing. This left me feeling incredibly disappointed and reaffirmed that La Bou is just not what it used to be. If the expectation is to stay afloat and keep the support coming in, then my recommendation is to do better. I could have paid $3.99 at Safeway for a bag of salad mix that would have appeased the craving for a "Chinese Chicken Salad". Shameful. read more

Save your money and go ANYWHERE but here. I spent $12 for an iced tea and a turkey sandwich with cheese. If you see the picture, they put 2 mere slices of turkey on the sandwich, it's ALL bread. I've enjoyed La Bou for so long! This visit was the most disappointing ever, sadly at those prices and serious poor quality food I won't be return. The spicy Thai chicken soup, tastes like warm dishwater, not even close to how the soup has always tasted. There was two small chunks of chicken, no rice no mushrooms. The simple turkey sandwich was on the wrong bread, and the fresh deli Turkey usually used, there was cheap Walmart lunch meat Turkey, it was disgusting and slimy. I paid over $70 for our meal, and 3/4 was not edible. I get times are tough, but if you can't provide quality ingredients, don't charge for quality than provide garbage. Just ham, just cheese. For $8, i received the smallest square of an unappetizing looking sandwich. It was incredibly flat with barely any ham or cheese in it at all. Perhaps i got totally the wrong thing. The salads looked decent and the sweets looked super yummy. It was below average for me and way overpriced for what I actually got. I have been a patron of La Bou for years but only go occasionally. I went to the restaurant in Roseville, CA on Santa Clara Dr today. This was the worst experience I've ever had there. I had the smoked turkey sandwich, the meat was basically nonexistent...there were literally only two paper thin pieces of turkey on the sandwich. The lettuce was wilted as well. I also had to ask where the napkins and sugar were located as they had all the necessary eating utensils and iced tea condiments spread all over instead in one essential place!
