A little place that you simply must visit, stationed on the edge of Wine Street and Castle Park. La Bonne Crepe serves traditional French crepes, made to order, with a wide variety of toppings. Sweet crepes are the white pancakes you might expect, but the savoury ones, called galettes, are made with buckwheat flour to a traditional French recipe, and the slightly bitter taste goes really well with savoury fillings. Very popular with local workers, there can be a significant wait at peak times such as lunch, but I assure you it is well worth hanging around. There are tables and chairs under cover, so you won't get wet if it is raining. The proprietor is a friendly young French man with a welcoming smile, and a good relationship with his regular customers. If you go there often and tend to order the same thing, he is likely to remember what crepe you like, which is always a nice touch in our impersonal modern world. The prices are fairly high, but the flavour makes it more than worth the money. There are other places selling crepes in the centre, but nowhere else matches these properly made beauties. If you're thirsty, La Bonne crepe also sells a selection of cold drinks, and a mean cup of coffee. read more
