Shot cup waters lol
Jan N.

Salty, subpar service, and unexpectedly charged for chips and salsa. Not sure if we went on an off day. It was our first time and we came around 1pm on a Monday. No wait and we were seated right away. The waitress asked if we wanted chips and salsa as we were seated, before being given any menus, and we said yes. The chips and salsa came with the menus and water then we started looking over the menu. First impressions: 1. Water was given in a glass shareable bottle with two plastic cups as small as shot cups. Cheap looking. 2. I wasn't paying attention much to people's attitudes, but my partner said it seemed like the waitress didn't want to be there. 3. Prices were pretty steep but the restaurant had really good reviews, so we still gave it a shot. We ordered a wet burrito and the surf and turf chimichanga. When the food came, the burrito was not wet and the chimichanga was covered with red sauce. When we stated that the burrito was ordered as wet, they took both plates back. Then they gave it back to us. The chimichangas had red sauce on top and I called a waitress to ask about the green sauce since the menu said it was topped with red and green sauce. She said no, it isn't. And I said, the menu said it is. She said no, the menu said red sauce. And I read the menu from my phone verbatim, that it's covered in red and green sauce. She grabbed a menu and read it, and then realized I was right. She then brought the green enchilada sauce. We then noticed that there was only one knife between the two of our plates. But no one checked on us after. So we just shared a knife, no big deal. Just inconvenient. But again, no one checked on us after the food came. There were two waitresses and 5 tables of groups of 2-6 people. The food: SO SALTY. The rice, beans, chimichanga, and burrito were all salty. The beans were not edible. Rice was barely edible. And I had 4 bites of the chimichanga but each bite I had to add the side salad to it to make it less salty. My partner said at first the burrito wasn't salty, but about 1/4 in he said it was also really salty and couldn't keep eating. Finally, after we stopped eating and sat for a few minutes, someone finally checked in. We just asked for boxes and the check. The chips and salsa were NOT complimentary. They weren't expensive. BUT it's the principle. Don't OFFER chips and salsa as we get seated, before we get a chance to see the menu, as if they were free. It was so weird. For the price, this was absolutely NOT worth it. Again, not sure if we came in on an off day. But for almost $80 two people, I would expect water to not be in a plastic shot cup, better service, and edible food.

April 2026 - dinner service Don't have a reservation or wait too long at Tac/Quila or some of the other fancy haunts in downtown Palm Springs? Don't sweat and walk down 5 mins to La Bonita's Family owned, super salsa's and start with the simple but fresh guacamole and chips Next try their tacos ! We had the fried fish tacos and the shrimp quesadillas Their hidden talent is in the refried beans and Spanish rice Taste on point - Muy Bueno ! We will be back !

Happy hour at La Bonita's rocks! The carne asada fries at half price and a huge helping. Perfectly flavored meat. Fish tacos were outstanding. The place has a Baja California vibe. Service was excellent, fast and friendly.

Sigh, every time I come to Palm Springs I expect inflated reviews and this place is no different. Had high hopes in downtown Palm Springs as there was a taco spot in every corner, and La Bonita's has a 4.5 star average with thousands of reviews. Sadly... everything was disappointing. Our tortillas were so soggy that it couldn't even hold the filling and I ended up eating the remnants of my tacos with a fork. The filling wasn't good either, and nothing here tasted authentic. My kids tried their tacos made with flaming hot Cheetos and that was... different. The taco shell is made out of a blend of the hot Cheetos with your usual taco filling. It's ok the first couple bites, but gets old fast. Was greasy and heavy. Just temper expectations and know that this place doesn't live up to SoCal taco standards (especially if you're coming from LA/OC).

This is an interesting restaurant as the prices are off the charts expensive! So expensive but you don't even wanna order a drink that's not water and if you do order water watch out there's a charge on that too. We always forget in our city that there are certain places that compete for your business however, this is one of many Mexican restaurants along the street so look at the prices of other places before posting up here they are kind but unforgiving the price height we would've ordered more but our bill for breakfast was already $90.

A friend wanted tacos and I saw the great reviews so we stopped in. Definitely a casual and divey kind of atmosphere but the service was friendly and they got our order quickly. They have a nice menu selection but I opted for beef cheese shell tacos as I thought the cheese shell was unique. The cheese shell is exactly that- grilled/baked (?) cheese formed into a crunchy shell with all the regular toppings inside. As a result, it was super cheesy! All in all, a bit too cheesy for me but definitely something unique to try. Would definitely stop in again if I'm in town!

We blindly tried this place for dinner and it was really good. The ambiance is great, right in downtown town Palm Springs with the view of the 111 action, streetside outside seating (very quaint) and the staff is great. Everyone's friendly and helpful. We got our food in a timely manner. We had to order the chips & salsa which was weird but it was delicious, the guacamole was also delicious. Maybe it's a sign of the times and the economy - but we didn't mind we just asked for it and it came right away thankfully. I got the green enchilada combo and hubby got the crispy carne asada tacos. Everything was fresh and tasty. Also the restroom was clean and smelled good. This place is a hidden gem we will definitely be back! Thank you!

The grilled chicken and sautéed veggies part of the fajita order

At the Palm Springs Film Festival and needed a fairly quick dinner between movies. La Bonita's is pretty close (about a 5 minute drive). We got lucky and got a spot right in front. The restaurant is fairly small (I think there are probably less than 10 tables inside with a few more outside). Soon after we sat down, Ozzy came by with menus and glasses of water. Service was attentive throughout. My wife and I shared the chicken fajitas ($26). We were able to see the chef make the order in the open kitchen near our table. Fairly generous portion size with a good amount of grilled chicken and the usual sautéed veggies, rice, beans, pickled onions, and shredded cabbage. Good service, very casual ambiance, and good food.

Enchilada Plate and the Grilled Chicken Nachos

Loved the service. The seating area includes indoor dining, and patio dining. The grilled chicken nachos were ! Often when you get nachos the chicken is just barely seasoned chicken, cheese and whatever else. The chicken in both the nachos and enchiladas was tender, seasons soo well and delicious!

Queso Taco with grilled mahi

Delicious authentic food. Some of the best carne asada ever with a punch of spice and garlic. Fries were crispy and plenty of toppings. Amazing refrained beans and Mexican rice. Simple but both were very well executed. Ask for their house spicy salsa. It has a nice smoke and a killer kick. Lovely service and family vibes.

Chimichanga Burrito

The food was great. The chips and salsa tasted fresh and the burrito was a 10/10. I'd recommend ordering a drink if you don't like the taste of the palm springs tap water. While the service was good, I did find that we had to go and ask for silverware. The ability to sit both inside and out is wonderful given the lovely weather in Palm Springs.

Crispy Hard Shell Chicken taco

Tried the Cheese Shell Tacos! So yummy! The shell was nice and thin and the tacos were loaded with cream, guacamole, pico de gallo & lettuce. I had never had cheese shells before (non tortilla) although they do have traditional corn tortilla tacos if you prefer. They also have taquis cheese shell tacos al

We spent a couple of days in Palm Springs for my birthday, and decided to have brunch at La Bonita's, a small Mexican café my husband picked. He said, "It doesn't look fancy, but it something I imagine to see in Mexico," and I agreed. He ordered a Coke, and I tried a watermelon margarita for the first time. It was absolutely amazing! So refreshing, especially in the Palm Springs heat. For food, I got their famous fish tacos, and my husband ordered a burrito. Honestly, the margarita was the highlight for me. The food was fine, I liked that the tacos came with refried beans and rice, which were tasty, but they didn't bring us any of the sauces we usually enjoy, like the green or spicy ones. You had to ask for them, which felt a little awkward. My husband didn't really enjoy his burrito either. We're a bit spoiled because our favorite burrito place back home, Taqueria Mi Durango in San Bruno, makes incredible ones, so this one just didn't compare. We were a little disappointed, but still, it was part of the experience. And honestly, discovering the watermelon margarita made it all worth it. I didn't even know that existed before! All in all, we probably wouldn't go back to La Bonita's. There are so many other Mexican spots in Palm Springs that look more inviting, and hopefully taste better too.

Is the Flaming Hot Chito Flavor made from Cheetos? Do you do others as well? Like Takis or Doritos...

Good question, hot Cheeto tacos are made with cheese and Cheetos only. No tortilla. Yes, I’ve made these same tacos with all types of chips but not on menu. Just do them periodically as specials.

3 dollar beer . All the time?

Is the fish in the fish tacos fresh or frozen fish sticks?

Frozen breaded fish sticks

How is the parking situation?

There are free parking lots super close to the restaurant. We were surprised to see free parking anywhere!

Estamo para seerbirle?

Si, nuestro patio esta abierto para comer y ofrecemos comida para llevar y entrega a domicilio

Is it dog friendly?

They have a small patio out front you can sit with your dog . Key word small.

Do you do buffet-style catering(10 people) for pickup?

Yes we do. Give us a call for details. We provide a buffet style taco bar

What happened to the tequila? We went for margaritas but it's only wine based yet the yelp photos show tequila.

Tequila wine maybe but no tequila sorry did you come in and try?

Palm Springs has a night market that happens Thursday night from 6-10 where it brings out people. Food vendors, arts and crafts, gifts and so on. A nice family outing on the main strip. Also all the storefronts are open as well. The thing with something like that, you tend to stand or find a seat along the curb to sit with your food. Hence we finally walked into this restaurant. It was pretty busy when we walked in but at the right time. Got seated right away as there was only two tables available. By the time we were seated, the line was pretty long. It's just off the main strip. Pretty decent size patio which seems to be where everyone was utilizing it as it was nice out. There's a bar area with seating as well as indoor, a smaller room. Service was nice. Water and menu was brought out first then came the chips and salsas. Quite tasty but can be filling if you can't control yourself. Started off with their classic margaritas and the spicy margaritas. There's a few dollars difference from classic to spicy. They weren't that bad. Menu wise, a mixture of all your Mexican dishes. We didn't have any starters as we just wanted the mains. The carne asada plate which came with both rice and beans. I opted for only rice. Thin skirt steak with chorizo, grilled jalapeño and onion, flour or corn tortillas and salsa. And the chicken enchiladas verde with the green sauce. The food was quite tasty. Carne asada plate was pretty plentiful. Nice skirt steak with a nice piece of chorizo. Both were quite tasty and flavorful. Steak was decent and cooked well. Not overly done. Then you have the enchiladas. It's decent in size but not too big. It's good if you're not too hungry. The sauce was great and was a perfect pair to the dish. As it was our first time, it was great. All these place that's been there but you walk by loads of time. Sometimes you just have to try new places out and see what comes of it. Maybe it's a hit. We quite enjoyed it and glad that we finally tried it out.

I was really disappointed with the service and overall experience…read more First, we were never offered water or refills, which set the tone right away. Both my husband and I ordered shrimp tacos. I don't eat meat, so I always choose fish or shrimp as alternatives. The first two tacos I received (fish and shrimp) actually had beef in them. I sent them back and clearly explained that I do not eat meat. I then reordered shrimp tacos and specifically told the waitress again about my dietary restriction. Unfortunately, the second batch came with bacon. While yes, I could have read every ingredient more carefully, I would expect the staff to be more attentive and helpful--especially after I had already sent food back for the same issue. Instead, the waitress lectured me about not reading the menu, which felt inappropriate and unprofessional. On top of that, the tacos themselves were not good--overloaded with random ingredients and not at all enjoyable, especially for $23. I left feeling unwell and very dissatisfied. The strangest part of the experience was the hostess at the front. She appeared completely disengaged, staring off into the distance. I tried multiple times to get her attention for something as simple as a napkin or the check, waving while she was looking in my direction, but she didn't respond at all. Overall, poor service, lack of attention to dietary needs, and disappointing food. I wouldn't return.

My fiance and I were in Palm Springs celebrating his retirement and I'd booked a reservation at Melvyn's well in advance. Unfortunately, their lack of service ruined our experience, and we walked out after waiting 25 mins to even get so much as a water. We decided to head to Sancho's and were immediately sat. Our server, Rene, was an absolute joy! He promptly brought us waters, beverages, and the some of the best fajitas EVER. In the time it took for us to walk in and out of Melvyn's, we already had everything--water, drinks, and food. Good thing too, because we were hungry! I can't say enough good things about Sancho's. They are a small business, and the hotel doesn't own them, so I'm sure they've weathered a lot with the loss of foreign tourism and tariffs. But their food and service is ON POINT and I'm so grateful to them for helping us turn a bad situation into a great one. The only positive is the decor,it's nice and has a cool Polynesian/mid-century vibe. That's where anything good ends. The service was terrible. We asked about specials as first-time customers, and our waitress conveniently failed to mention the Taco Tuesday deal. Instead, she rushed us to order. We later realized we ordered multiple taco plates that should have qualified for the special, but she never said a word. The food was even worse. I ordered fajitas, and what I was served was completely unacceptable,no vegetables, no resemblance to fajitas, just chopped chicken covered in chorizo and tomato sauce. It was disgusting. I took one bite and couldn't eat it. I planned to send it back, but the waitress disappeared and never came back to the table. I was stuck with it and only ate the sides, which tasted like reheated frozen vegetables and a small cup of beans. Despite barely touching the food and not receiving what I ordered, I was still charged as if everything was fine, about $22 for a plate I couldn't eat. When I finally addressed it, she insisted it was "fajitas," which is honestly ridiculous. To top it off, when my husband asked for a box, the waitress came back after handling cash and used her bare hands, with long acrylic nails,to grab his taco and put it in the container. That is completely unsanitary and unacceptable. Bad service, disgusting food, and poor hygiene. I will not be returning and will be reporting this place to the health department. Avoid this place. Warning Positive reviews are obviously coming from ownership friends.

Some of the dishes felt like they were missing an element like guacamole that would have pulled it together. Their dishes run between $17-25. Of the dishes we tried, the chicken fajita was good but nothing too special, the vegetarian burrito and vegetarian enchilada were also solid choices. It was nice that they had a few dedicated vegetarian dishes to choose from, as well as some vegan ones. The beef chimichanga was okay, but the corn cake seemed to be the best thing on the plate. They give the table tortilla chips and salsa complimentary. Many servers were milling around and they were relatively nice when they did come around, but they should have been more attentive to the table. No water refills either. UPDATE: Prices on the menu reflect a 3% surcharge for credit card purchases BUT if you pay cash, you should get a discount on the receipt. We got the check after awhile and we gathered our cash but no one came or told us this was the policy. It's another reflection of staff not communicating properly and as a result, us overpaying. It was noted on the menu but you can't expect customers to remember all these details. There are many eateries to choose from in this busy Palm Springs thoroughfare so you can likely find something more refined, unique and nice. Parking lot out back was great and you get 3 hours. This street has a lot of brand name and souvenir stores and is a fun walk to check out the town.
