I recently purchased a bridesmaid dress for my friend's wedding. After measuring me, the sales associate/manager told me that I would need to pay an additional $20 for a larger size in the bust of the dress. When calling to pay for the dress, they then told me that it is actually an additional $40. I was not happy about that, but paid. When I received the dress, it was AT LEAST three sizes too big, which means I could have ordered the regular size at regular cost. I brought the dress to an alteration location that is typically inexpensive and has great service. My dress is costing an additional $130.00 for tailoring. It needs 5 inches off of the sides, taken in in the chest, and shortened. I was told that they are basically making a new dress. After speaking with the other bridesmaids, I found out that their dresses were much too big, as well - and this is after being personally measured by the team at La Bella Moda. I feel that La Bella Moda intentionally measures too large, in hopes that they will be used for alterations and charge the clients more money. I am a wedding planner by profession, and I know that dresses should run a tad big so that the dresses can be altered to fit each girl's body. However, this is by far the most extreme miscalculation of sizes I have ever seen - and it is across the board for everyone I have spoken to! Alterations should cost roughly $40 - $50 - a new dress should not need to be made! What was once a $180 dress is now costing me $350. On top of feeling completely taken advantage of by this company, their staff has been rude and dismissive every time I have been there. I would never send one of my brides to this location and will warn them about the terrible service we received. La Bella Moda is a business whose main focus should be customer service and knowledge about their craft. I feel as though they are lacking in both areas. A bride and her wedding party should never be made to feel ripped off, taken advantage of or like they are an inconvenience. I am personally appalled and offended. read more

Really disappointed in this place. As a bride it was not a great feeling and my family agreed. The staff were nice and friendly but Not genuine. They blatantly ignored a request to pull one dress to the point of having to insist. No clue why they did not want to pull the dress since it was very pricey and my entire family wanted to see it. They also did not pin the dresses back or make them look good on me at all. I was very open minded and ready to purchase a dress but they didn't seem to care if I actually got a dress from them. My bridesmaids are getting their dresses from here and the first time we went in to look at dresses the customer service was fantastic! Alexa was great and very attentive. I'm giving 3 stars because one of my bridesmaids called on Saturday to see if they have any appointments on Sunday to get measured for her dress. The girl (she didn't catch her name) on the phone laughed at her and said they don't have appointments for measurements for a while and there's no way they can fit her in. My bridesmaid didn't even ask to be fitted in .. just asked if they had any appointments open. Then the girl told her in a rude tone that she's better off just going to a seamstress & calling with the measurements. And then ended the call with "and you better have the dress number when you call back". So who ever the girl was answering the phone this past Saturday 3/30, she clearly needs more training in customer service and to be a little nicer to the customers ... especially paying customers. read more

I came into La Bella Moda looking for a relatively specific style of dress. I knew what I wanted, but was also open to trying other options. Alexa, our consultant, pulled dresses and made sure to pick something that matched what I described almost exactly (which speaks to her attention to detail but also to the selection of the shop in general). She also picked some other styles she thought I might like to be sure that I was confident in my choice. I found a dress I absolutely loved after trying on only a few dresses. As this was the first place I went to try on dresses, I really wasn't ready to commit just yet. Alexa was completely understanding and offered to schedule an appointment a few days later (for measurements and official "say yes to the dress") experience to accommodate my needs. I live in NYC and even went to a top designer shop there and decided I loved my dress even more than before and am so excited to have purchased it from a small business, especially with the pandemic in mind. I found a wedding dress that I love here and in fact am buying it this weekend. I went alone and the staffperson who helped me was, well, helpful. She was kind and knowledgeable. She was also very intuitive when I told her how much I wanted to spend. She never once tried to "oversell" me on anything. In fact she chose dresses that were significantly below my spending limit yet were beautifully made and looked very expensive. In fact, only after I asked about the price once I was finished trying on, did she tell me how much each gown was. I was truly surprised at how reasonably priced my gown was because it was so beautifully crafted. I also now have plenty of room in my budget to spend on shoes, a veil, alterations, etc. Overall, you could probably have a more luxurious experience at a pricier or more exclusive bridal salon but I appreciated La Bella Moda's selection and the honesty of their staff. If you want your salesperson to be more of a personal stylist or wish to have an experience in which you feel like you are being pampered, this may not be the place for you. read more

Only wished I discovered this place earlier. They have the best bridesmaid selection I've seen so far, designers include Jim Hjelm, Vera Wang, Laundry, Amsale, After Six, Dessy, Watters. It's best for you to try on the dresses and see the actual colors, and Bella Moda is the best place to bring your bridesmaids. I haven't checked out the wedding dresses but I bet their selection is amazing. read more

I know two people that purchased their wedding dress from La Bella Moda. They never let in on their experiences there but since I know they are picky people and want good service, I figured this place was going to be great. Unfortunately, it was not. I arrived with my Mom, Great Aunt, future Mother-in-Law, and Maid of Honor. When you step into the store, you are in the midst of bridesmaid and mother-of-the-bride attire. Everything is very close quarters. We were taken upstairs to the bridal shop and the woman that escorted us up started right into the appointment. I had to stop her and ask her if she was my consultant and her name because she never introduced herself and she told me that someone else was going to be helping me. Confusion! Anyway, she hurried me through describing the designers I liked and the style of dress I wanted. She wanted me to go in the back and pull dresses with her. She did not pull anything close to what I described and I had to start looking through their rather small selection. When we returned with a few dresses, she helped me in them but the dressing room was so small I was practically showing my undergarments to the whole shop! She wasn't good and pinning the dresses because when I got the mirror to see myself, the material was hanging off me and I couldn't get a good idea of what it would look like in my size. When dress after dress was not cutting it, she asked my Mom and Maid of Honor to look in the back! They were taken aback by this request because they felt she was putting her job on them since she was not doing so hot. The appointment was only one hour (we were told on the phone is was 2 hours). It was very rushed and the consultant was not helpful in the slightest. When we asked if there were any headband or ribbon accessories, she said she did not carry them. They are one of the most popular accessories in bridal fashion right now! I will not be returning to La Bella Moda and I will not be shopping for bridesmaid's or mother-of-the-bride dresses here either. Missed sales total: 3....ouch. read more

The shop's owner, Lena, is just so sweet and passionate about what she does. I felt like family here, and I highly recommend this shop to all of you. I know most of you are not going to like this post and say I should probably lose a pound or two but as a plus size woman do NOT go into this store looking for dresses to try on. They don't have anything above a size 10. They will waste your time, put you in a dressing room with dresses that will definitely not fit you and you will be expected to spend 299+ on a dress you will never be able to try on and not be able to return if it doesn't fit you! WHAT A JOKE it's 2019 pls join us. Btw I'm a size 14/16 not even that much larger but still it's crazy i'm to rely on some measurements of a stranger to buy a dress. I need to see what it looks like. I'm only giving this one star because there isn't an option to give it zero. Terrible service. I was a bridesmaid in a wedding this past July. When I picked up my dress, it was too small in the bust area. I went back to have the alterations done. The seamstress took measurements with a piece of paper (the tag of my dress to be exact). She then continued to say that I gained weight (which I didn't) and called me fat in front of the staff and other customers. Finally, when this was over, I asked how much the alterations would be and no one could give me an answer. When I asked for an estimated amount, the woman told me $100 in a very snotty attitude. Two weeks later, I picked up my dress and was told to go into one of their dressing rooms. Another woman came in yelling saying I couldn't use that one and to hurry up. The dress now was too big. I decided that I couldn't deal with the hassle anymore, paid for my dress ($60), and left. Bottom line...there are plenty of other bridal stores in the Philadelphia area where one can have a pleasant experience. read more

I went here with my mom, future mother and law, and sister and Tracey was fantastic. She patiently walked me through dresses, listened to my vision for the dress and picked a gorgeous Paloma Blanca gown. There was one tiny snag: we got locked into the dressing room together---but that was quickly resolved. I am super close to ordering from here---but the dress business is pretty hard to decide on. The place is really nice upstairs--in full french boudoir style just stay away from the owner! She may be on something. Worth a trip for sure. I don't write tons of Yelp reviews but I felt the need to write one for La Bella Moda because I feel like it has been attacked here, and based on my experiences I don't think the one star reviews are accurate. I haven't gone through the purchasing process, so I can only write about trying on gowns, but I went and had Tracey and she was delightful. She pulled gowns that she thought I would like, was NEVER sale-sy or pushy, and had all the little extras to make the dress experience more enjoyable (bras, slips, etc.). Their selection is really big and the samples are in great condition. Plus, they had brand new styles on sale, who can argue with that? The only reason why I wouldn't give it five stars is because the fitting rooms are a little tight and there's not a ton of privacy if there is another party there trying on dresses (there obviously is privacy when you're in your undies, but if you go out to the big mirror, everyone else can see you, and you might just need that privacy since many of the samples tended to be a little smaller than other shops (my guess would be size 8s, instead of 10s and 12s I've found elsewhere - it's quite an ego hit, but not really a big deal otherwise). Anyhow, bottom line is that this place is wonderful and clearly on par with the other places I've tried. Don't rule them out based on Yelp reviews alone!! read more

I used La Bella Moda for my bridesmaid dresses and loved them. From the moment we walked in they were helpful but also gave us space to try on tons of dresses. Great selection, all the designers we were looking for. We finally decided on two dresses one we loved but liked the neckline on the other. The girls at La Bella Moda were able to change the neckline on the first dress and it turned out great!!! Price for dress and alterations were very reasonable. read more

The dresses are overpriced and overall, a very small and too similar selection. Aside from the store itself, the employees are rude and unpleasant. Last time I went in, there was nobody in the store and they made snide comments about how they were an 'appointment only' shop (they specifically told our bride that appointments were only necessary after 4pm) and even after I apologized for coming in without an appointment, they continued being rude and practically ignoring me. Also, they took our measurements at the time of the dress purchase and claim to have ordered the corresponding size that matched up to our measurements. My dress was without a doubt at least 1 or 2 dress sizes too big and therefore, required alterations. Then they charge 50% of the dress's cost for the extremely simple alterations (just taking in the sides and bottom). There have to be way better places in the area with nicer women and better prices. Do yourself a favor and try somewhere else. read more

I got my wedding dress La Bella Moda and most of my bridesmaids got their dresses there as well. I worked with Kathy to pick out my dress. I had been to many other stores in the area and hadn't found the dress yet. I was getting discouraged and Kathy was great. She listened to my input throughout the process and pulled dresses that she thought captured what I wanted and addressed my concerns. I probably tried on 10 dresses and re-tried several. I didn't feel rushed at all, which I can't say about many of the other stores in the area. I wouldn't say that they had better or more selections than other the stores, it was just that this is where I found the dress I liked best. When I came back with some of my bridal party, the customer service wasn't quite as good as it had been with my dress. But they let us pull dresses and try them on in the downstairs fitting room. The downstairs fitting rooms are a little cramped and when they are crowded its a bit hectic down there. But we were able to make our decision without much input from the staff, which was fine with me. They offered us a discount on the bridesmaid dresses since I had bought my wedding dress there. As for the fittings for my dress, Emilia was my seamstress. She was great. She went above and beyond to fix everything on my dress so it was perfect on the day of. We had a lot of issues finding the appropriate bra for the dress and Emilia ended up altering one of the bras I brought so it would work. I ended up having way more than 3 fittings because of the bra issue and it wasn't a problem with them. By the final fitting everything was perfect and I really appreciate the extra help Emilia and the staff provided. I would definitely recommend La Bella Moda to a friend. read more

I had a really nice time trying on wedding dresses with my mom and friend. The staff (Kasia) was very friendly, supportive, and patient. She helped me become more aware of what type of styles I liked best and be decisive about what I wanted. This was the second of 3 places I went to try on dresses and I thought their selection was excellent. They carry a good variety of styles and designers. I had been looking to buy a Pronovias gown and was very pleased to see they had a good selection, specifically the newer styles. Really loved my experience here! read more

I went here with my mom only to look for a veil as I already purchased my dress from another location. We were there on a weekday when there was absolutely no one else in the store. I understand bridal shops usually want people to have appointments, but we were only looking for a veil so we didn't think a walk in would be that big of a deal. Apparently we were incredibly wrong. We walked in the front door and instead of being welcomed, the first question we got asked was if we had an appointment. When we said we didn't because we were only looking for a veil, the salesperson told us they couldn't help us and tried to forced us out the front door. We asked to simply look at them and eventually she agreed. The whole time we were there (again, no one else was in the entire shop) we felt so unwelcome and as if we're being a complete annoyance by just being there. Needless to say we left complete disgusted and I did not purchase a single thing from their store. I have told everyone I know to stay away from this store. After going to several wedding shops, I ended up purchasing my dress from La Bella Moda bc they had the dress designer I wanted. I purchased this dress at the end of Sept where I paid half up front and was told I would receive a fabric swatch within a couple week. This swatch NEVER came. I was also measured at the time I picked out my dress and I just received it yesterday and it was big all over even though I only lost 1 pound since last Sept. The length was also too long. They told me it would cost 250 to 400 to alter this dress which is approx 20-25% the cost of this dress. What I dont understand is why did they measure me and why did I have to wait so long to have a custom made dress, when it does not fit me in the bust, waist, hips or length? This makes no sense. I understand minor measurements will always have to be made, but this is ridiculous. I refuse to pay them more money to fix something that shouldve been right in the first place. So annoyed. I do not wish this upon any bride... so please save yourself the hassle and go to a dress shop that actually show more professionalism and commitment to their customers... they are obviously only out to squeeze every penny out of their clients. read more

I've been looking for a dress for my daughter's wedding, heard that they had a nice selection of gowns, stopped in this morning shortly after they opened. The person working looked me up and down as if I was a piece of trash, pointed to the clearance rack and informed me that she had nothing less than $500, then went back to her phone call. I looked around didn't see anything that was worth being treated like trash, at which point my daughter, the Bride told her that we would take our money elsewhere, I looked back as I was walking out the door and thanked her for the Julia Roberts moment. I have never written a review on yelp before but I feel like I need to share the horrible experience and service I was given with La Bella Moda. I won't get into all of the details but top line is I purchased a Jim Hjelm dress with sleeves and the sleeves never fit properly and I couldn't move my arms. I used their seamstress and we had 5 different visits until it came to a few days before my wedding and I had to cut the sleeves off completely so I could move my arms. I was told that La Bella Moda was aware of this issue and they just don't mention to customers because they want to sell a designer dress but La Bella Moda denied that. What I do know is that buying a wedding dress is a big investment and if you want to go to someone who cares and wants to make sure you are happy then I would suggest you don't go to La Bella Moda. read more

Lana, the shop owner was completely unprofessional. She was perfectly courteous to me when I came in to look at wedding gowns and the first time that I was looking at bridesmaid gowns, but once we started talking money, she completely changed her tune. Apparently needing a day or two to think about a big financial decision means that I should be treated like a waste of time and space. When I said I needed to take some time to decide, she completely started ignoring me and my bridesmaid, except to come back periodically to pressure me and accuse me of being rude and wasting her time. So much for the customer "service" that she assured me would be unmatched at any other salon. Apparently she thinks that she's doing good enough business to say goodbye to the sale of a bridal gown and 6 bridesmaid dresses + alterations. If she keeps treating people this way, I would imagine that won't be the case for long. read more

I can not say enough nice things about this shop. First of all, we were able to get an appointment very last minute for 8 bridesmaids and the mother of the bride. The stylist who helped us, Kathryn, was extremely patient, courteous, knowledgable and FUN! The bride had a vague idea of what she wanted in mind, and Kathryn really helped us narrow it down to two colors and two designers. Between the 8 bridesmaids and MOB, we probably tried on 25 different dresses and they women that work at the shop were always there to help with a smile on their face, despite the fact it was the very end of their business day. We narrowed it down to a color and designer and picked different dressed and got measurements all within 1 hour and 30 minutes of arriving at the shop. It was the most painless dress shopping experience for all of us! I would not hesitate to recommend this place to anyone! Extremely courteous, helpful, patient and knowledgeable. I asked if they had a smaller size and they said it was $20 to get sized. I was obviously in their way and did not want me in the store. Not going back. I eventually just made an appointment at La Bella Moda when I thought the Jim Hjelm dress would be there. They scheduled me for an early Saturday morning spot (before they were open, in fact), which I was grateful for. The upstairs area for trying on dresses is fine, but under the lights up there, it is very hot. The woman who helped me was patient and not pushy, and the dress I tried was lovely. Overall, I would say that someone who doesn't mind putting in a little extra work to find the perfect dress should go make a stop here. But if you're looking for smooth sailing the whole way, skip it. read more

I live in NYC but decided to check out dresses in PA where my parents live. La Bella Moda was the only shop I went to, and I ended up buying my wedding dress here. The sales associate was so patient and allowed me to try on any / as many dresses as I wanted. She allowed me to browse through everything and take my time, even though it was a busy Saturday afternoon. The dress I bought was on sale, and I got an amazing price on it. I had to come to PA a few times to pick up the dress / fitting, and each time, the sales owner was very attentive with me. The seamstress did a fantastic job with complicated alterations/strict deadline and for a very reasonable price. I have been to many bridal stores in NYC and it was worth the travel to get my dress here in a shop where I really felt like I got personal attention and service. read more

For future brides-to-be...I had a wonderful experience at La Bella Moda. I did take the advice from fellow "yelpers" and asked to have Tracy as my bridal consultant. She was awesome! She was so friendly and very respectful of my budget and was not pushy at all. You can tell she truly enjoys what she does. My advice, besides having Tracy as your consultant, is to go during the week and not on a Saturday. I went to other bridal shops on Saturdays and it just seems like everyone is stressed out plus there is a dozen more people in the store, thus making your special time less enjoyable. I did find my dress (!!!!!!!) here after going to several bridal shops. Will try to update in a few months when my dress comes in to chat about fittings and bridesmaids dresses. My experience here was absolutely terrible. I am one of six bridesmaids, and the bride had already picked out the gown for us but was looking for a place that carried it. La Bella Moda was one of them, so she made an appt. Unfortunately the bridesmaids are scattered so we couldn't all make it at once. She went in with one bridesmaid, and got excellent customer service. Three days later she brought me in for a fitting. The bride had found one shop that could give her a good deal on the dress, and had asked the owner of this shop if she could give her something comparable. When we showed up she told us she could sell the dress for a few dollars more than the other place. The bride responded that she wanted to think about it, to which the shop owner replied that she refused to measure me until the bride put down a deposit on all the dresses. She started bullying the bride claiming that she had the service, and she was doing all the work. She let me try on the sample dress, but completely stopped giving us any service at that point. The sample dress didn't fit, and the bride had to search the racks herself for other dresses by the same designer for me to try on, while the owner just sat down at her desk and started reading. She was incredibly rude and unprofessional. I have worked in customer service for over 14 years, and would never ever treat a customer like that. I don't know how she thought bullying us into a purchase would work. I was absolutely appalled. We refused to give this woman any sort of business. Would not go back. Would not recommend to anyone. I went to La Bella Moda to find a dress and worked with Kathryn, and I had the most wonderful experience! While I ended up finding my perfect dress elsewhere, I was honestly a little sad I did not find it at La Bella Moda because they were so wonderful to work with. Kathryn was so patient and eager to search their collection for the perfect option for me. I found a dress I loved there and wanted my sister to see it who was only in town for a couple of days. We called them and asked if we could stop by to show her the dress within the hour and they made it work for us. When I tried it on again, Kathryn remarked that it was so great to see all of us so happy (we got a little emotional when I tried on the dress again!) and that she was glad that either we would go with this dress, or if we didn't, it would mean I found another dress that made me even happier which is wonderful too. I went a little overboard and tried 11 wedding dress shops while my mom was visiting, and I can say that our experience at La Bella Moda was far and away the most positive and the staff the most genuine. I purchased my wedding dress here and the woman who helped me had picked this dress out for me so for that reason alone I will always love this store, just from what I described that I wanted she picked a dress out of hundreds it was the fourth dress I tried on and I was done. The seamstress technically wasn't employed by the store but she was the person they worked with and we always met at the store and my dress fit me like a glove and she was very nice and told me her whole life story so we bonded a bit. The day I walked out with my dress it suddenly started to pour and the double bagged the dress for me and walked me outside with two umbrellas and I thought this was extremely kind because that was not their responsibility. The only reason I went with 4 stars instead of 5 is as follows - I purchased a pair of divan earrings that were $120 - the day of my wedding when my husband and I were announced our dance floor was packed and we started dancing like maniacs immediately (we like to party...) well, my earrings came flying out of my ears ( i guess the backings were not fitted properlyand I pretty much didn't wear them the entire night but they would not refund me the money and neither would the company divan. I was disaapointed about this becuase I paid $120 for nothing but I still loved my dress so much that I only will take away one star. read more
