I didn't want the frills, I just wanted good food and that's what I got. I sat at a little table outside which was perfectly pleasant! The road wasn't too loud or anything. But really, the sandwich was SO good. I doused it in the spicy bbq and added the pickles and coleslaw and I ate the WHOLE thing. I shouldn't have. But it was great!! We hadn't visited since February, 2020. Before the pandemic might as well have been 10 years ago, if the world shut down 6 years ago. We were overdue for a followup visit. Judging by how the food went down, we were sore for it. We ordered the Big Tex: four meats and four sides - tri-tip, brisket, pulled pork and links; kale greens, bbq beans, mac and cheese and fries. We opted for the cornbread in the roll slot. It should be the top meats in your order, by premium scale and availability, but more often than they should be, the brisket/tri-tip selections are, 90%, obligatory orders. I think I have a love/hate relationship with the way LA treats the pepperoni pizza of bbq meats. Swinging Door broke us off proper though. Not too fatty. Great tenderism. And the accompanying sauce complemented the smoked all stars, rather than compensated for lack of flavor. Didn't stop me from loving their Whiskey bbq sauce though. The beans were a true bbq side, swimming in a mild sauce and containing lovely chunks of link. And the kale greens - sheesh - I think they might've switched to kale since our first visit. An effective exercise in alternative ruffage that holds seasoning and jucies for a similar bbq/soulfoud bite. We live further away now. Took the food to go, to prevent the intermittent rain from foiling more of our plans. It traveled well. And since I'm using our leftover bbq sauce on every other meal I cook, I'd say we successfully made do with our lunch substitute.

I drive a long way for it and I was so glad they still had some smoked pork ribs when I arrived at 12:30pm on Saturday. They can sell out their first batch of food early, but they try to smoke all day and sometimes you have to come back a couple of hours later when the next batch of BBQ are ready to serve. I really like their ribs, rib tips, and brisket! I usually eat a 1/2 rack of pork ribs (unsauced) in my car and wash it down with a large soda from McDonald's. I then order 1/2 lbs Brisket with sauce on the side to-go. It still tastes great after 1 minute in the microwave. I pair it with 2 eggs over easy and a side of garlic rice (excellent bbq brisket silog Pinoy breakfast). I don't know their business hours very well. My last visit was yesterday Saturday and their hours were I think 11a-8p. They ran out of food by 2p and reopen at 4p when the next batch of barbecue was ready. Note, if they completely run out of food to cook, they would be forced to close early for that day. I don't know who came in at 11am yesterday but they must have bought trays of food. And they must have really like Rib Tips because that was all gone by the time I got there. If you need catering, please call in your order days ahead, so there's food for other customers during their normal business hours. Just a polite request from one customer to another. Also, FYI. I think his 900 Lake Ave schedule in Pasadena is on hold until further notice. When in doubt about schedule, call the number on the truck.

The owner is super friendly and accommodating. He came right out and took our order, gave us a spot to sit and hang out and proceeded to bring us some really tasty BBQ. The ribs were fall off the bone tender and in a delicious rub and sauce. The lemon pepper wings also came out in the sauce and were some of the best I've ever had. I also had the homemade Mac and Cheese, pickles, chips and cole slaw. They make everything including the sauce except for the chips. Brisket 5+ Beef Ribs 4.25 Pork Ribs 4.25 Mac and Cheese 4.0 Sauces and sides 4.5 Great guys 5.0 Overall, excellent BBQ, nice guys and priced normally for BBQ faire. On my next trip to SoCal, I will be stopping by to get excellent BBQ and great service.
