The interior location was very nice and you get to watch the bartender as he mixes drinks. We ordered the margarita pizza. My daughter said, " this crust is really good". My son ordered the carbonara. It was so creamy and the bacon inside is so delicious. The bruschetta .... Ahhhh!!!! That was to die for. The toast was so crunchy and the tomatoes tasted so good. Kind of screwed over me and my friend by charging us $14 EACH for grappa without telling us what…read morethe price was when we asked aboutil it. The waiter told me as I was leaving "I hope you won't leave us a bad review" and I'm like bro you just screwed us both so....yeah bad review incoming. He's making the claim he had the right to charge us this this because it "wasn't on the menu" and I'm like well if it's not on the menu then maybe don't f****** serve it or tell us how much it costs. I pointed out to this asshat at the time, too, that he didn't tell us that it was going to be that much, which is AT THE LEAST a courtesy. I don't think my friend could afford it, but I could, and that's pretty unfortunate considering that he really screwed us over, and I did not expect to spend $60 on dinner tonight for 3 glasses of wine and a pizza with a TINY glass of grappa at the end. If you must stop, only for glass of wine or 2, but don't do anything more because apparently you will definitely get FUCKED on the bill, so definitely make sure you read your bill before you leave too.... You know what, in hindsight I just wouldn't come here. But I didn't get dessert that probably would of cost me $20 more. Luxury dining prices with McDonald's quality, shame because the evening started out so promising, but the female bartender left and that made it a man's world with single female diners. Poor dude is just sad to be going home alone after he heard I was single. Enjoy your blue-balls asshole, you can use the money you charged us, probably as a tip, to buy some smokes once you're done with your right hand. And yeah, here's my negative review you cheap SOB. Damn if you weren't the worst waiter in my 7 weeks of vacation. Enjoy and by the way congratulations because you're the first waiter in 7 weeks that has actually charged me for grappa. Everyone else has just been excited to share their culture but you saw dollar signs. What goes around comes around, son. At least I'm not you. Also, as an American, I still tip for good service. You could've gotten an honest tip, but you're just a douchebag who couldn't give two girls the heads up that you were going to charge us the equivalent of a cocktail for what was basically a shot. At least I made friend, everything else was a crapshoot.

The more the merrier we say. Food was pretty good however there was a consensus that the beef carpaccio lacked flavor. I was also surprised to order the octopus but barely found any octopus in the dish, it was more of a shrimp dish which was not described in the menu at all. This is why I took 1 star off. All in all - we had a good time, the staff was friendly and patient with our large group.

But it was a few blocks from our AirBNB, it looked lovely, and we were hungry. To our surprise there was an available table. You can study restaurant reviews all you want, but sometimes you just have the good fortune to wander into a wonderful restaurant. And that was exactly our experiences at Al Mercante. We ate on the beautiful terrace which faces the Pinacoteca Ambrosiana art museum. The small piazza where Al Mercante is located was very quiet at night. The interior of Al Mercante is quite elegant. While the majority of the clientele were foreigners, there was small wedding party a couple of tables over. We had the very good fortune to be waited on by Angelo, a professional waiter who loves his job (23 years at Al Mercante!) and who ensured that we had a fine dining experience. Angelo speaks beautiful Spanish and we were able to have a more complete discussion than usual about the menu. I've managed to forget the details of the wonderful food we ate so I hope I. don't commit any serious omissions as I reconstruct our meal. We had an appetizer which I cannot recall. I think it was some sort of raw fish (crudo sounds better) with just a hint of citrus almost like an Italian version of ceviche. Our primo (shared) was wonderful: porcini mushrooms on roasted potatoes. What great taste from two simple ingredients. The secondo (also shared) was salmon coated in sliced almonds and a wonderful lemony sauce. Quite simply it was perfect. We had a terrific white wine that might have been a vermentino. Angelo didn't have biscotti with vino santo so he suggested sbrisolona -- another kind of dessert biscuit. -- that seemed to be homemade -- and a digestivo. In between all of this were wonderful amuse bouche. Here's what I'd like you to know: this was a wonderful, elegant meal served by a very professional waiter in beautiful surroundings. Al Mercante provided a delightful meal on our last evening in Milan.

They first asked if we have a reservation and I said no and they got very upset about it. Even though the restaurant was almost empty. It has good food but the food took way too long to be considered worth it. This place is nothing special, and Chiara Ferragni's blog belied the fact that it is OVERpriced and SLOW! Based on the Internet reviews, we thought this restaurant would be fabulous, trendy, and reasonably-priced. Wrong! Menu reads mouthwateringly good but then you are disappointed because the portions are the size of half of an appetizer in America! I would've enjoyed larger portions for a lower cost at a lesser known restaurant over this place- and the margaritas are NOT alcoholic enough. If I'm ordering a drink.. I want a drink. Lol. Wouldn't go back, but the food, despite being small and overpriced, tasted pretty good... If you're not worried about money or time, this one's for you... I got the vegetables in oyster sauce, shrimp dumpling soup, and chicken, and these 3 combined were still not as big as a regular APPETIZER portion in America... Crazy! Also got water and margarita... Totaled to €50- not worth it at ALL. Had a great night out with friends, but certainly not because of the restaurant...
