Following yelp's advice yet again, while walking along the canal a co-worker and I wanted a nice meal so we checked this place out. Service was fine and they had a nice wine selection at reasonable prices. I decided to make it a "real" dinner and go for three courses. To start i had the grilled octopus, went with the guinea fowl for mains, and the tiramisu for dessert. All 3 courses were well cooked and ended up being a perfect dinner. Wanted to love it!! Beautifully presented food with above average taste, however hard to get service, more by nature of the operations than any one particular server. The gin bar was very interesting, and they have a small counter in the bathroom where you can take empty bottles home for decor, which is neat. We reserved a table for 2 at 9pm and arrived at 9-had to waited for 10-15 min by the packed bar (with little standing room) before getting a table. From here we were constantly flagging down waiters for service. The bread was brought with olive oil but no plates, and the bread had probably been sitting for a couple hours before our arrival as it was hard. We shared a number of small plates as those looked the most interesting. The gnocchi-chewy and the sweet potato flavor was good, and the amaretti biscuit crumbles on top with the savory dish was the most memorable. The octopus was charred and a little bitter, and the chickpea soup special was rather grainy-like watered down hummus but I suppose that would be chickpea soup. Also had tagliolini with caviar. It seemed that all waitstaff were working all tables, and while the service was quick after we had caught the attention of a waiter, it was weird to Flagg down four different people to order dinner, dessert, ask for missing plates, etc. read more

The restaurant boasted a beautiful ambiance in contrast to the rest of the city. I sat outside in the front with a view of the river. The interior felt more formal than the patio and the bathroom area was memorable as it felt like walking into a little garden. The bread plate was quite good with the most memorable option being the saffron rolls. We dined for lunch at which time there is an option to purchase two plates for 20 euro when one plate is approximately 15 euro, so it is a good deal. Soup served at lunch was lacking in flavor. It was a plain puree with oil drizzled on top along with a few seeds to texture, but I couldn't identify the type of green vegetable puree that composed the soup due to the lack of flavor. The salad was stunning with colors, edible flowers, and great flavor. A solid plate. The house white wine did not disappoint. It was balanced and crisp. My friend had the pork and reported that it was very good and the plating was contemporary and beautiful. The crudo was what I opted for due to the waitress saying she could eat it everyday. It was much smaller than the portion of pork. I do not have a big appetite and it did not satisfy me. The flavor was fresh and simple, but without any memorable, so I was disappointed that it was so plain and so small. The waitress was patient and had a sense of humor. Her English was very good and she seated us although the lunch hours were about to end. Overall, it seemed the plates were highly variable in how much we enjoyed them. read more

After a challenging 40 hours in Venice due to the "Acqua Alta", my travel companion and myself needed an amazing meal. My friends from Milan kept telling me to head to this region for dinner and drinks. After hopping on the easy tram, we ended up at Officina 12. We were both craving the Milanese dish that is yellow risotto with saffron. One with a veal and one without. Our server, and I apologize for forgetting his name, was delightful. We ordered the bruschetta to begin, which he helped us pair a wine with. Then my friend ordered the risotto without veal, and I ordered mine with. Insanity!! Pure deliciousness. It was the worst restaurant I have ever been to in Italy. Besides the food being uncooked and very tasteless, it also has the worst employees I have ever seen. Especially the man waiting at the door is very disrespectful and really weird... During the hour and a half I was at the restaurant, he fought not only with me but also with another woman. Ok first: the food here was amazing. The appetizers that we had: the calamaro in plancia, bruschetta, and the gambero mazara were amazing. The calamaro had a great smoky flavor and it wasn't chewy at all. The bruschetta had probably some of the freshest tasting tomatoes I have ever tasted. I would highly recommend this even if you don't like tomatoes. The gambero mazara was made really well and was overall satisfying. The main dishes were slightly bland in comparison. The breaded veal (cotoletta Milanese) was slightly bland and a little dry. However, the portion that they gave made up for the slight bland flavor. The desert is a must. The tiramisu was SUPERB. Great softness and perfect sweetness. The wait staff was amazing and interacted well with our family. The location was right next to the canal and the air was nice. As for room, there was limited outside seating but there was a lot of space inside. Overall great place and would highly recommend. read more

Go here immediately. What an amazing find in the middle of so many tourist traps! The food was very inventive and absolutely delicious. I had the burrata and the squid lasagna. I really liked their drink selections, and the waiter gave me a great recommendation for a wine. I was also able to get a sweet view of the canal. Everyone was extremely pleasant and attentive. I have nothing bad to say about this place. If I weren't so full, I would've loved to try their sister gin bar. It looked really good. One word of advice - if you're going to eat outside, time your visit to finish eating before the sun sets, or you'll be mosquito food. That goes for all restaurants in the area, not just this one. read more

Also enjoyed the farfalle with the Italian flag colored sauces; the presentation was very cute. The risotto was a little on the bland side but quite buttery and satisfying. Ahhhh! All I have to say is MOSQUITOES! I'm talking hundreds! It was literally eating us alive. It was all in our food, all on our table and it made our night miserable. First, the service is AMAZING! The staff is very kind and completely at your service. 2nd, the food... eh, it's ok. Nothing special. They have very unique recipes but the taste just wasn't there for me. 3rd, the drinks... TOP NOTCH! The drinks were delicious! It's a gin house and I'm not a gin drinker but I loved all drinks I tried! 4th, I will say again...please prepare for an infestation of mosquitoes! Bring spray with you! Understand that it's not just this restaurant that has mosquitos; the entire river area is infested. It's a cool place but you have to be prepared. We had a few drinks in the bar at the back of the restaurant, which specialises in gin. They have a great selection of gins (the biggest I've ever seen!) and also some interesting gin-based cocktails. Prices were also reasonable, with most cocktails around the 8 euro mark. A great touch was the free aperitivo plate which came with the drinks, which was actually quite substantial. A beautiful slate board filled with cheese, a few different meats, smoked salmon, and some other little nibbles that I wasn't sure what they were - it was all very tasty though! The atmosphere in the bar was really nice, and felt quite classy. Definitely somewhere I'd go for a date or a special occasion. The only slight negative was that I found the service a little slow, and they also took the menu away in between drinks which made it even longer between rounds. However, as we were having a leisurely drink and not in any rush it wasn't a huge issue - and not quite slow enough to deduct a star from the rating. read more

They were homophobic and had no issues making it clear we were not welcome. Unfortunately this all started after the first course arrived. Served no bread, gave us our bill before we even finished eating, didn't open the bottle of wine in front of us, and never once came by to check in or ask how things were - but they did this with everyone else. The inside is quite nice with the inside garden. The dishes are Italian cuisine iwht an international touch. The pizza a bit more sophisitcated than at other places. Personally I think the Officina has decreased its quality and increased its prices a bit in the last two years. It's a place to have a nice dinner or a lunch if you're prepared to spend a little bit more, but it's nothing where you will be blown away. read more

Actually, when I am in Milan I always stop by Officina 12. It is a great, classy and lovely place to have dinner. I could say that I almost tasted the whole menu, it is all tasty. But he last time I ordered a medium-rare Rib-eye steak, however mine was a rare steak. I can tell it was the only negative thing I faced there for 2 years. Besides, you should trust the waiters on wine selection. Especially, Allesandro is the best! To sum up, you will surely not rehret going there, give it a try! read more

We went to the new hot attached bar GIN 012 in Officina 12, a cool restaurant on the Navigli Grande. The bar as the name implies specializes in Gin and has at least 50 or so bottles on display and a menu full of drinks using the featured ingredient. We were so comfortable (after 3 well-made gin drinks each) we ended up staying for dinner in the bar. First, the complimentary aperitivo plate that arrived with your first round was probably the best we experienced in Milan. A slate board with a large selection of local cheese with honey, speck, mini-quiches, and even the best chicken sate skewers! Almost a meal in itself! But after a few more cocktails we craved a little more so enjoyed some wonderful Risotto Milanese, among other offerings. Great modern vibe too, I recommend it highly for a high end aperitivo experience among some pedestrian choices on the busy Navigli Grande. read more

Very cool restaurant in a cool area in the city. It's a large space with an upstairs as well. We had a group of about 20 come here for dinner, and they were very helpful in making the reservation. They allowed us to select a pre-fix menu for our party, and they accommodated any requests for exceptions. We all had a great time. read more
