Buenos Aires spoiled us -- and La Alacena was the crown jewel. After four Michelin-starred restaurants in four days, La Alacena stood out as my absolute favorite. The atmosphere inside is warm and charming, exactly the kind of place you want to linger over a long meal. We shared two pasta dishes, both light yet surprisingly satisfying -- the kind of portions that feel just right rather than leaving you stuffed. The standout was the lemon sauce over the tortellini: perfectly balanced, bright, and simply flawless. A genuine 1-of-1. This would have been an effortless 5-star review... if I hadn't gotten locked in the bathroom. Please fix that. Everything else? Perfection. read more

I've been to this place twice (thrice if we count one stop at the counter) and I have to say their food is great but costumer service could improve. The first time I went to dine in I was told there was no tables and had to wait which is normal for a late night but then a group of four people arrived and were seated right away. This baffled me but I just waited patiently until the same guy that seated the group told me he had space at the terrace but it was a bit chilly. My server for the night was nice and friendly. The second time I attended was this morning. I wanted to get a quick bite to eat and some coffee. Again, went in and was completely ignored by the lady that was at the entrance which greeted a couple that got there right before me. I had to ask if it was okay for me to seat and they scolded me for asking where after they already said I could seat anywhere. I ordered my food and left with the feeling that they seemed to be annoyed and that's a weird way to treat a paying costumer. Anyway, food was good. read more

We waited 30 minutes for four at 8:30 PM to be seated outside. Service was super friendly and did not feel rushed even though the restaurant was super busy. Excellent pasta--perfectly al dente with variety of sauces, all delicious. Squid ink pasta was my personal favorite, but the pesto was super fresh/nutty and the garganelli (pork ragu, truffle, salchicha) was deep in flavor. The fish dish was super fresh and soo delicious with the olive tapenade. Some of the best tiramisu I've ever had!! Creamy and decadent. One thing of note though for people seated outside: we saw someone phone get stolen off the table and the thief ran off on a waiting motorcycle. The waiter did their best to run after them, but to no avail. Keep your belongings on you. read more

SaLad is refreshing and Garganelli pasta is delicious. The unique combination of chocolate cake with pistachio, sour cream and extra virgin olive oil is yummy. Sour cream counteract the richness of chocolate cake. read more

What a must go to spot! The past is so soft and fresh it's like pillows in your mouth. A great blend of flavors and taste. Not pricy compared to what you would typically pay for pasta like this and a Michelin star. Creative flavors like their special the saffron gnocchi. Service was more attentive than what's common and ambiance is causal and lively. read more

Great spot! Cozy decor with lots of personality and you can see right into the kitchen, which is a nice touch. Service was super fast. The appetizers were amazing: especially the mushrooms and the beef carpaccio with zucchini. For mains, we had the lasagna and zucca ravioli, both really good. It's listed on the Michelin Guide, totally worth a visit if you are in Buenos Aires! read more

I had two bad dining experiences over the course of eating out 3 times per day for 4 days in Buenos Aires. This was one of them. My ham and cheese breakfast sandwich was good, which my friend ordered after his smoked salmon croissant had a funny taste and smell to it. The coffee and OJ were good but the service was horrendous. We had to chase down the waiter here on multiple occasions. This appeared to be one of the higher rated breakfast spots close to where we were staying, but we left sorely disappointed. read more

Update: this is my favorite restaurant. Of all time. In the whole world. And I've only been four times. The brunch menu, which changes sometimes, is out of this world. I'm telling you, the way these people cook eggs is godly. Some of my favorite dishes are the brunch Brussels sprout dish & sausage dish... Also the cheese sandwich on the regular menu is delectable. The brunches came with granola & yogurt and a whipped cream/pear/merengue-like cake, respectively, both of which were unreal. Things this simple SHOULDN'T BE this UNREAL. La Alacena takes simplicity, combines it with the best fresh/healthy ingredients, and creates perfect dishes. I am so in love. Original: I wasn't expecting this to be one of the best brunches I've ever had. La Alacena, your meal was an absolute delight. I got one of the brunch specials of the day, which was a piece of extraordinary toast topped with two beautifully cooked eggs, sautéed brussels sprouts and greens, pieces of pancetta, and fresh feta cheese. It was perfection; the egg yolk broke over the toast as a scrumptious dressing. Every ingredient complimented the others so well! Total food art. It also came with a tart yogurt topped with sweet & crunchy granola. The yogurt tasted so fresh. I left the place feeling perfectly full (not too full!) and satisfied. If you're a brussels sprout lover like me, get your butt over there ASAP because this dish is a dream. read more

Overall this a great place and deserves 5 stars. I ate here twice once for breakfast and once for lunch. Breakfast I would probably give 3 stars - I had Prensatti Jamon & Queso (ham and cheese panini) and Prensatti Q Cuartirolo (raspberry marmalade and cheese panini). I wasn't that impressed with either. The ham and cheese was good but the bread was kind of greasy and there was nothing special about the flavor. The marmalade and cheese was not good - way too much marmalade, not a fan of the type of cheese used, and again too much oil or butter on the bread to grill it. The one saving grace was the coffee. It was very tasty and served with a delicious little biscotti - I could have eaten an entire plate of those. I would potentially give breakfast another shot but would probably order a pastry. Lunch was amazing!!! The pasta is where it's at. There are so many delicious choices it was so hard to choose but we had the Carbonara and the Bolognese. Both were equally as amazing. I hesitated on getting the bolognese because once you've had it they usually all taste similar - not here!! It had an interesting twist with some type of reduction drizzled on top that added great flavor and depth to the dish. The homemade pasta was cooked perfectly (al dente). I would definitely go back to try other pasta dishes. Skip the bread, not really worth it. The service was good both visits and the ambience is cute and comfortable. read more

Very cute and very busy lunch spot. Lots of staff and yet it was slow. I don't know if My brain has been mistrained and I need to slow down but waiting on your drinks for 16 minutes was rough for a summer lunch break. I know this because my watch pulsed and told me an update when we ordered our food and the drinks came 16minutes after that... I don't howl....I just wait and look around...other tables were also on the same place... but I found it strange because the staff is there...anyway... BA is like an NYC meets Rome...so they are energetic, hustling and always busy. So maybe that's why my brain was on the wavelength anyway...what I meant to say is be patient or get out Pavlova - excellent. It truly was and probably still is. Yes, I got my dessert first. I was hungry and needed a boost of sugar. Grilled Chicken sandwich w salad - REALLY good bread...I think it was sourdough, spongy chewy..and the chicken was dressed well. read more

C and I really like La Alacena. The corner location, the ambiance, and, most importantly, the food. Everything is top notch ... above average. The coffee is the best we've had in BA, hands down. Sunday brunch is outstanding. Food: 4.5 stars Ambiance: 4 stars Service: 3.5 stars - because it depends on the server. Unfortunately not all servers are created equal. Most of them are very attentive. read more

This is our favorite restaurant in Buenos Aires so far. It offers a plethora of dishes featuring fresh vegetables, which by itself is reason to celebrate, but on top of that the cooking is truly exquisite. We've had the papardelle with mushrooms and grilled veggies, the potato gnudi in a spicy sauce, the grilled whitefish, and the veal meatballs, every one of which was worth coming back for, which also goes for the farinata, a pizza-like appetizer made with a garbanzo dough, cheese and an olive tapenade. The service is super friendly and efficient, and the ambiance is casual, sunny and homey. Our compliments to owners Julieta Oriolo and Mariana Bauzá, La Alacena is a real triumph. Oh, and their bakery next door is equally fabulous! read more

We had Brunch today. *The good*: cute place, good and attentive service. Organic food. Correct pricing (brunch is around 200ARS) *The bad*: portion size super small. Bread is sold as part of the brunch and it is NOT good at all, but doughy with a thin crust. Expect to get a platter with everything cut in a way that looks that it was repurposed from other tables, and in fact, it probably was. When I pointed this out to the owner, she refused to acknowledge the slices that looked as if they were torn by the hand of a previous customer, and kept shouting that she did serve fresh bread. Then why not serve a whole piece of fresh bread, instead of disgusting little chunks?. Also, mediocre Omelette (please use a better cheese and some seasoning thank you!), and horrible lemon pudding. The Yogurt was ok, tasted like homemade so it probably was. I'm not coming back. read more

I had the pappardelle pasta with mushrooms tossed in a butter and sage sauce. WOW. It blew me away. Such an incredibly simple dish, elevated to another level because the chef executed it perfectly. The homemade noodles were cooked flawlessly "al dente" and finished nicely in the sauce, and the mushrooms and the sauce were just so flavorful. THAT is how you execute a pasta dish. I've been in Buenos Aires for two months now and that is the single best dish I've had yet. And yet it's such a simple dish. The effort the chef put into the creation and execution of this dish was obvious. I thought the portion size was absolutely perfect. For dessert I had a really excellent flan (would recommend) with a pretty good cafe macchiato. No problems at all with the service. The waiters were very attentive and the kitchen delivered the dishes quickly. read more
