Malinda is a sorceress when it comes to curly hair! Not only did she give me THE best haircut of my life... but she taught me a very cool way to style my hair. She also recommended an amazing product for me that I've been using and loving since I got my cut 3 weeks ago. Also they call Kaylee a young blood colorist .... But I don't see anything beginner about her skills! She was able to get my color EXACTLY how I wanted, despite my crappy vague direction. It was even and glossy and perfect. I walked in looking like cousin It from the Addams family. I left looking like a goddess, if I may say so myself Thank you ladies! Can't wait for my next appointment, you're stuck with me now

Alright, I'm done gate-keeping. The fact is, great hair doesn't happen by chance; it happens by an…read moreappointment with Alison Campbell. I've been going to Alison for the past 6 years at three different Fox & Jane locations, and I will follow her anywhere in the country (and probably overseas too). I went to Alison after a decade of box-dyes because I wanted ombre/balayage highlights. I showed her a few pics of ridiculously platinum blond highlights and she straight up told me: 1) I have 5 different colors of box-dye that she needs to remove first 2) She will not bleach my black/brown thick pin-straight Asian hair to be THAT blond in 1 sitting because my hair will fall off That honesty is EVERYTHING! Many of my gfs went to other salons with the same (outrageous) request, the hairstylists complied, and those women now have dry brittle hay straws on their heads. But not me - after 6 years and gallons of bleach - my hair is still thick, shiny and healthy, all thanks to Alison truly TAKING CARE of my hair. Alison listens and remembers my preferences; I hardly ever give her direction other than "more/less blond", "cooler/warmer" and "longer/shorter". She knows how to cut Asian hair!!!! . She also cuts my man's long curly hair and taught him the benefits of "layers". Most importantly, she taught me that toner is my friend, otherwise I'll look like a traffic cone. Again with that honesty. I was super excited to be Alison's first client on opening day. I took the Seastreak Ferry to Highlands, NJ (40 mins) and then a Lyft to Red Bank (20 mins). WOW, Alison's new Fox & Jane in Red Bank is GORGEOUS. Unlike the typical loud cramped salons of NYC, this salon is so spacious, and the décor is chic and relaxing. It's like doing your hair in West Elm. This time around, Alison did heavy babylights (which helps camouflage my grays as my roots grow out) and textured long layers to add volume. As always, Alison did not disappoint.

This place is far from "lux" or "elite." Even booking -- or…read moretrying to keep -- an appointment here tells you everything you need to know. We booked our appointment a couple of months ago and reconfirmed by text, yet when we arrived, the stylists had clearly given our slot to a higher-priced service. One stylist even told us to "have a seat," despite the two of them openly discussing in front of us that the other client's service would take a long time -- meaning they knew our appointment was bumped before we even walked in. There is no one to answer the phone, and replies come through messy, unorganized texts. After making eye contact with the stylist, they told us to "come back in an hour," as if our time didn't matter. There also seems to be zero management. We walked out -- and as expected, no one ever followed up. At this point, we'd rather just go to the salon across the street with far better reviews and a more professional reputation.

My friend booked hair appointments at Salon Concrete for her wedding day. Since the salon was…read morespacious and was well staffed, they were able to handle our whole party and keep the salon open for regular business. I'm not sure if this was provided by the salon or the bride, but there was a table in the center of the salon which had bagels, muffins, juice, mimosas and water for us to enjoy while waiting. Since we couldn't all have appointments at once, it was nice to be able to have a little nosh. I believe there were two or three stylists working with our group. Cassie did my hair and did a great job. I knew I wanted some sort of flowy curls with half of my hair out of my face, but I left the rest up to Cassie's expertise. Cassie and a few other stylists strategized and then she got to work. It took a while to curl my hair but my hair is very thick and wavy so that's expected. She meticulously went through each section. I was very happy with the end result. I only wish a few more pins and spray had been used. I had to run back to the salon to pick up a friend a little after my appointment and another stylist was able to touch me up which helped the style last through most of the night. The whole party, especially the bride, looked gorgeous so I would certainly recommend Salon Concrete for your wedding or formal hair needs.

On August 5, I got my hair cut my Kristen and colored by Nina (who are both wonderful people). I…read morewas at first really happy with the results: A few days later, after leaving my hair straight and unstyled, I noticed that the face framing of my long bob was very much one sided. The left side of my hair was actually longer in the front than it was in the back, while the right side was significantly shorter in the front than in the back as it's supposed to be with face-framing. Backstory: I have been in Boston for a summer internship but came home to NJ for one weekend and decided to get my hair done here since my mom raves about Salon Concrete all the time. I noticed the unevenness when I got back to Boston and figured they wouldn't mind fixing it up a little for me when I got back...WRONG! I just called Salon Concrete, granted it's been a while since I figured it didn't matter when I call them because I won't be back until the end of August, to let them know about my hair and that I'd like to come back to get it fixed. The receptionist that I spoke to this time around was incredibly unpleasant and unfortunately I didn't get her name. I was informed that when I returned home from Boston they would not fix my hair but I could pay for another haircut since the grace period has ended. I understand that when I return from Boston a few weeks will have passed since my haircut, but the mistake will still be there! It would really only take them 5 minutes to fix it! I'm VERY disappointed with their customer service after my appointment. I will not be returning to pay another $70 for a quick fix that should not cost me anything because it should not have happened in the first place, I of course understand that people make mistakes and that is okay with me. I do not understand why Salon Concrete thinks it's okay to let there mistakes go unfixed. Aside from the fact that Salon Concrete will not fix their mistake, Kristen and Nina were both great. Nina did an awesome job with my color and aside from the one mistake, I'm loving my cut from Kristen. I simply cannot overlook the rude receptionist and the terrible customer service that followed my appointment.
