FANTASTIC experience, very professional, welcoming, easy to work with. If you are getting married, PLEASE run to Lock & Shade!! Working with this team made my wedding day so effortless (which any bride knows is impossible to do). My trial was wonderful, Julia and Molly took their time to really understand what I was looking for, and day of the wedding really listening to my edits. 30 days before, Blaise confirmed the service and pricing, with one week before providing a schedule for my bridesmaids to know when exactly they should start getting their hair or makeup done (a Type A persons dream). All of my bridesmaids looked stunning and the group of artists with us day of were so on top of things while also having such a chill vibe. I 1000000% recommend using Lock & Shade!!! read more

I left L&S after 5 1/2 hours, fighting back tears, and with my hair not at all what was discussed, and I can still honestly say that it was the best customer service experience of my life. I needed a new salon and booked an appointment with Chelsea after a consultation. Very long story short: my hair had a crazy chemical reaction during a routine treatment that was not in any way Chelsea's fault. The color(s) was wild and there was a large patch in the back where half the length of my hair basically disintegrated. What Chelsea and Bekah did to save it was incredible. They were calm, direct, communicative, and apologetic (even though I can't stress enough how much I trust it wasn't her fault). I feel like they both sacrificed so much time and effort for me and I'm so grateful for what they were able to do for my hair. I'm pretty sure I dissociated through most of my visit because it was like my nightmare experience but I'm grateful it happened there. Without getting into specifics, they went well WELL above and beyond what my or any other human's expectations could be. They hooked me UP with products and services, a true class act. This place and the people who work there are great - truly decent folks - and the way they treated me today gained them a customer for life. read more

Lock and Shade did a friend's wedding, and after hearing of the wonderful experience they had, I knew i wanted them for my wedding! To begin, Blaise handles all communication- which was ALWAYS fast and well-prepared. Blaise welcomes you with a big hug and hypes you up for your special day! My trial was exactly like my pictures! Deanna even suggested pearl bobby pins, after I said I didn't have any hair piece yet, which completed the look and my aesthetic. On the day of, Lock and Shade had a team of 2 (Deanna and Lindsey) help with my bridal party's hair (5 girls including me). Blaise came up with a timeline, which was perfect. Deanna and Lindsey were AWESOME!!!! We got to get ready at the salon, which is beautiful and PERFECT for pictures. It was an amazing morning that I have such amazing memories from with my sisters and mamas. Each person's vision for their hair was different and each looked EXACTLY like their inspiration pictures. Everyone was beyond elated. They helped touch up anyone who needed it before we left to ensure all the girls felt beautiful and confident! We even finished early and were AHEAD of schedule. If you need a team of professionals that are awesome and love what they do-- book them!!! read more

I cannot recommend Lock & Shade highly enough! From start to finish, their team was an absolute dream to work with. As a bride, finding the right hair and makeup artist was crucial for me. So I asked my photographer for recommendations and she mentioned Lock & Shade, I am so thrilled to say that they exceeded all my expectations. Blaise, the Salon + Bridal Coordinator, was incredibly responsive from the very beginning. Their attention to detail and commitment to ensuring I was happy with every aspect was truly impressive. The trial session was a fantastic experience. The artists (Deanna and Gina) were patient, listened to all my feedback, and made adjustments until I was completely satisfied. They provided expert advice on what would work best for my wedding vision while still making sure I felt like myself. On the big day, the team arrived on time and with such a calming presence that it immediately put me and anyone else getting hair and makeup at ease. They worked efficiently without ever making me or anyone else feel rushed. The hair and makeup were flawless. My look lasted all day and night, through tears, laughter, and dancing! The team at Lock & Shade made me feel like the most beautiful version of myself. Their skill, professionalism, and warm personalities made my wedding day even more special. I found this salon through Instagram (my friend recommended it to me) My hair makeover was with Laura Allen. She was so attentive, super skilled at her craft, and just an all round awesome person and stylist. Prior to my appointment she requested some pictures through email which I appreciated since I was a new client. I waa looking for a color correction and haircut. I was going for a plum color with some darker dimensions. A hairstylist previously gave me an all over one tone cherry color which looked a bit loud-so I wanted to correct. As for my haircut I was looking for tons layers and a face frame. After asking great questions to understand my needs she gave me the EXACT color and cut I wanted. The process was soooooo stress free, and I left feeling so pretty. I cannot wait for a return visit in a few months with Laura! read more

I have been a loyal customer of Lock and Shade for a few years now and I can honestly say, I don't care where I ever move... I will continue to be a loyal customer and drive as far as I have to to keep coming back. First off, the salon is GORGEOUS. The vibe is immaculate and the staff is fabulous. I have been seeing Emily for some time now and leave feeling amazing every single time! The COVID policies are on point and are absolutely compliant with all recommendations to keep staff and customers safe. I was also lucky enough to be a Lock and Shade bride! Bianca and Blaise were amazing to work with and made sure I had zero stress through the planning process (even through COVID)! They were so patient and reassuring as I booked, rebooked and changed all my plans around and made all of my wedding morning dreams come true. I paid an additional fee to do my first look and some other photos in the courtyard area (such a gorgeous space!). Emily did my makeup that day and it lasted through hours of outdoor photos, crying and dancing. I just got married last week and used Lock and Shade for my bridal hair. There are not enough words that can describe how amazing my experience was from start to finish. Molly is so incredibly talented and took careful time to understand, and execute my dream bridal hair. I showed her a picture, and she made it come to life. I am still OBSESSED! Danielle also attended as Molly's partner and the two of them were the dream team! They were on time and made the entire day stress free. Blaise is the wedding coordinator and he is just as amazing as the rest of his team. His communication was timely, and so supportive- especially through when unexpected wedding drama. Lock and shade was wonderful for my wedding day hair styling. They have a coordinator who helps you through the entire process making everything very manageable and easy. Great vibe as soon as you enter the salon. Everyone is very friendly and the waiting area is quite comfortable. Emily was fantastic! Having been bouncing around for the last 6 months I haven't had a chance to get a proper cut and color and she turned that issue right around. Probably took a good 3 to 4 inches off my overall length and she cut some layers into it to lighten it all up. I never had any luck with stylists giving me what I want - but my lucky streak continues with Emily. I will definitely be a regular here!!! read more

I found Nadya when I moved to NJ from NY and instantly knew she was the "one". I am very particular with trust when it comes to my hair and Nadya has all of it. She is amazing at cutting and has a fabulous eye for color. She was much more local when I first found her but after she moved I moved right along with her because it's worth the trip. The salon is much more relaxed than the last one which makes for a better experience overall. There is parking readily available but In the summer I suggest giving yourself more time to find a spot due to the location in close proximity to the beach. Traveled over an hour from maplewood to have Nadya cut my hair and she did an amazing job. Shag haircuts are her thing so I knew I made the right decision booking with a pro shag haircut stylist. Was and still am so happy with the cut. She gave me lots of time and was attentive and really listened in the consult prior to starting the cut which I valued. She also didnt get scissor happy as stylists I've had in the past have gotten, instead she left length while adding dimension and face framing, another plus in my book! The team at the front desk /everyone there was also super sweet and welcoming upon first entering and also at check out. Will definitely book with nadya /lock and shade again, no question! read more

Feelin' like a true ROCKSTAR after my appointment with Nadya at Lock & Shade. Lock & Shade has best location. Not only is it on the two best roads in Asbury Park, but everyone who works at the small businesses knows everyone and most importantly, is willing to help out which is AWESOME! I've been to Electric Tattoo and somehow had no clue the salon was right above it! I don't even want to call "Lock & Shade" a salon it is so much more than that. The vibe is so different than any other salon I've been to. An employee was setting up Christmas decorations and had a stocking for each employee, and even though I'm not the merriest during this time of year, it was really sweet to see how close of a family Lock & Shade is. Nadya has some bold, badass haircuts that I adored for a long time but I was always afraid to make the hair commitment since I try my best to be as low maintenance as possible because I love sleep more than getting ready in the morning. Another awesome stylist I follow on instagram and is a long time friend, Briana Fariella (currently at Lambs and Wolves), shared an event that was hosted by both Lambs and Wolves and Lock and Shade. All of these creative, talented women in one room made me feel left out on the fun. Not only that, but two of my good friends got amazing haircuts by Nadya so i worked up the courage to make an appointment! She was so kind and asked all the right questions to slay my hair. She was so down to earth and had some good conversations. She truly has such a talent and so much creativity! One thing she did that not many other stylist have done was take the time to teach me how to style my hair at home. My hair lasts so long and look so good even on day 3/4 thanks to her techniques!! It almost takes less time to get ready than before! My favorite part of the whole experience was when Nadya quoted JVN during her my watch and learn session and that is how you know that she freakin' SLAYS as an artist and overall just an awesome human being. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you to Nadya and the Lock & Shade fam for creating a space that is expressive & genuine. It's exactly what the hair & makeup world needs! Not only will I be making an appointment but now, after seeing my new-do, my mom now wants to make a haircut appointment with Nadya! (it's going to be a great Christmas gift!) Here's a photo of me LOVIN' my haircut takin' a bathroom, something I have not done in a long time, but this was for sure, WORTH IT. x3 read more

Literally will never trust any one else with a hair cut again!! Nadya is the absolute best, and possible th coolest most down to earth person on the planet? She takes what you're looking for and exceeds expectations EVERY time, whether it's a whole new look or just a little refresh. Bianca and her team run a business that is full of a lot of love and care. There's so much talent inside of one salon that you really can't go wrong booking with anyone there. On top of that it's a hella cool space that makes you feel comfortable and excited to be there. I personally commute over an hour to get there, and would commute much longer than that if I needed to. If you haven't been here yet, treat yourself and literally book right now. read more

I am picky as all hell. This week the gals at Lock and Shade nailed it. I'm so damn thankful.

I made an appointment to come in and when I showed up to my appointment the salon was closed, called them and no one picks up. Very upset I drove an hour for no reason. They should have atleast called me to cancel instead of telling me to come in at 2:45 instead of 2. Horrible customer service read more

Nadya is a FIERCE colorist with an aptitude for the most beautiful cuts. I have been a client of Nadya's for over 4 years and 2 salons. I genuinely look forward to the time in her chair for her kind, gentle demeanor and attention to detail. I've had quite the hair journey over the past few years with everything from from short and dark to long and lavender. Nadya has creatively guided me in the process while maintaining the health and length of my hair at all times. She genuinely listens to her clients and I think her beautiful work speaks for itself. Lock and Shade is a beautiful home for creative talent and as soon as you walk in the kind, chill reception automatically make you feel ease. I really enjoy the product line they use and my hair smells amazing every time I leave. The salon is incredibly clean and the aesthetic is hip and chic. The location is awesome and I would highly recommend making a day out of your trip into Asbury Park. The restaurants on Cookman are a few steps away along with many cool shops. I would definitely leave some time for parking since Asbury can be a little hectic, especially on weekends. read more

In June of 2019 I got married at the Berkeley oceanfront hotel and had the Lock & Shade tribe do mine and my crews hair & makeup. I knew I wanted to be at a location (not in my hotel room) getting ready the morning of, so when I walked up to Lock & Shade for a consultation I was IN LOVE. They have a beautiful courtyard with tables and chairs outside their doors, and the set up inside was dreamy. I knew capturing pictures would be nothing short of amazing & my photographer would love the space. Also it gave my crew room to walk around, sit outside & eat, have cocktails, and people to come and go as they please. I couldn't have asked for anyone better to do my hair than Bianca. During my trial she listened to what I wanted, and gave me exactly that. *Literally, went in the other room & gave me a pony tail hair extension piece to add to the Cinderella bun I wanted*. Once I confirmed who was getting what they wrote out a timeline for me so I didn't have to. They made my morning as easy as possible and I loved that about them. I truly was impressed with everyone's hair & makeup, and I know the girls loved it as well. The team listened to everything we wanted (light makeup and curls) and exceeded expectations. Thank you to the lock & shade tribe for always making me feel apart of the Lock & Shade family even though it's been a couple years now I love you all Xx Krista Perry read more

I've had many appointments at Lock & Shade with Kris and every time I go, I think, "ok, so *THIS* is the best haircut I've ever had!" And yet, she somehow manages to top that at the next appointment! Kris' cuts are incredible and for the first time in my life, I finally love my hair. Genuinely! The salon itself is such a relaxed and inclusive vibe. They're always on time, so nice, and totally accommodating. They won my loyalty forever though when I saw how gracefully they handled Covid restrictions and completely redid the salon to be compliant. I honestly don't ever review things really, but I felt the need after my last appointment to come give them the credit they deserve. Check them out, and you won't be disappointed! read more

I don't want to have a hard time booking ;) but so really thrilled since I moved and have been going here for color & cut. Nadya does both and I'll be with her indefinitely-- she is so talented! She is saving my damaged hair, and I love my color/cut so much since going to her! but while there, I see gorgeous work from other stylists too. - Totally reasonable pricing. - Beautiful space, good products. - Loathe to get parking in the summer but will still be worth it :) read more

I came upon Lock & Shade following a horrible experience at an upscale salon on Broad Street in Red Bank. It was here that I met the super talented Nadya. She has a keen eye for style and color that compliments the individual person. She gives 100% each visit. The space is great and the atmosphere is very chill. I consistently love my experiences at Lock & Shade. I have been a client of Nadja's for over five years. This is a long overdue review, but the exceptional service, professionalism and care that I received in the months leading up to my wedding to the day of by Bianca Bertoli and her team were incredible. My experience booking my services with Laura Allen and Milady were wonderful. I had several changes, including times and people, but they were handled with such grace and patience. As a nervous bride with frizzy, curly hair, Bianca was so calm and I trusted her every step of the way. She also gained the trust of my two five-year-old nieces as she did their flower girl styling on my wedding day. They are usually not comfortable with new people, but her warmth and friendliness made them instantly at-ease. Their hair, as well as the simple, timeless up-do that she created on the spot for my MOH was perfect. My hair was everything I dreamed of. Bianca ensured me that my frizzy hair would remain at-bay (it did) for me to wear my hair down on my wedding day. She made me look like my best, most polished self on such an important day.
