L. L. Bean makes really great winter parkas. But over several years and several versions, faulty zippers - particularly the part where the two "female" parts fail to grab the "male" part so as to allow the lower female to separate at the bottom to allow you to sit . L. L. Bean cheerfully refunds the entire price of the garment - even AFTER the one-year limit! That's why they get 3 stars. But if the already KNOW that there are tons of bad zippers out there, WHY don't they keep a certain number of replacement parkas on hand (assuming they have better zippers), so that when you return your parka in December, you don't have to freeze the rest of the winter? In my case, I walked out of my L. L. Bean store in a sweater! At home, online, I learned there were NO PARKAS ANYWERE IN BEAN'S INVENTORY! I had to use my bright orange deer hunting parka! Now, I'm getting invited to downtown New York hip-hop parties and my parka might become a fashion hit. Strange world indeed. read more

I was approved for a credit card with a credit limit over $6,000 - right on the spot. Experian issued a credit report and Bean reduced my limit to $400. I since cancelled my card which will probably effect my credit score. Be careful not to make one late payment which I did. My score has always been over 700-750 and never had this happen before. Had a really great experience picking up an online order a couple days before Christmas. The staff was friendly and attentive (confirming that the items were correct, asking if I wanted to try on my items before I paid, etc.), especially given how hectic it given the holiday season. Even though LL Bean is a company which supports DRUMPF, I still like shopping here because the products they make are high quality, look very good, have a very wide range, and because the store has a great policy when it comes to repairs, returns, and whatever your needs might be. Ridge hill is really inaccessable for most people, but I took a cab from Yonkers station so that made it a lot easier (it is technically possible to walk here from somewhere like Bronxville station, but will take about 45 minutes). After visiting the cheesecake factory, I popped in here and holy balls is this place big. I can totally understand why they don't have a store in Manhattan: to fit even half of their products into the average store size in the city would be impossible. They have kayaks and camping tents and stuff like that here, so a large space is absolutely necessary. I think that coming to the store, especially a store like LL Bean, can be superfluous in some ways in 2018, considering that everything that can be bought in this store can be bought online, and also considering that they're almost always sold out of bean boots, so the fastest way to get them would be to shop for them online. That said, for first time buyers, it may be a good idea to come to the store directly first before you become more of an online shopper. Bean boots in particular can be a little tricky, because they run kind of big, and coming into the store to try them on can be a big help. This LLB was especially helpful with my transaction, since I was shopping for shoes for my mom and got a size too big. I wound up losing my receipt, but luckily LLB was able to pull my info from the system based on my zip and my name, and told me I could bring the shoes into the store anytime for an exchange, or even a refund if I wanted. (FWIW, my mom wears a 38, which translates into a womens size 7- I bought a 6). Hats off to LLB. read more

I must say this is the second time I come to this store and the service is GREAT! The staff is super super friendly and ready to help! As I walk in they immediately helped me with what i needed. So i bought these hiking boots from them, the brand is Merrell which is an excellent hiking boot super comfortable! So my first time hiking with them it was great but i got a half size too small and the size just wasn't right so i needed a half size up. Overall the hiking boot was great! The exchange was so easy and even after usage they took it back without a problem. The boots were a bit pricey but it was worth it. The staff also informed me in my last visit that even if i loose my receipt i can still return it because i will be in the system etc (yes yes yes)! The store itself is great! it has everything you need for the outdoors! it has tents, backpacks, proper clothing for any outside activity, and more! You name it they might have it! They even have items for pets! The store is a bit pricey but the quality is good! I personally will return to buy more equipment as needed. read more

I am writing a review for LL Bean because I have become so disappointed in them. To start with, I purchased some shirts online, using PayPal. I've used it for years and have never had an issue with any store. LL Bean has always been my go to store, so of course I would purchase from them online. However, I noticed recently, that the shirt quality was not the same as it used to be. I used to order the same sizes and the shirts don't seem to fit the same. They seem larger for the normal size I order...and thinner, but I've tried to overlook that because I still like(ed) LL Bean. I decided to return two shirts and drove to the Manchester store. They told me they can no longer credit my PayPal account and I would have to either take store credit or get a check sent to me. I opted for the check because I started thinking about the merchandise and the way it was fitting. I thought it might be better to finally try another store for my clothes. I waiting the 10 days and a check never came. I called them up and the first associate said she would look into it and disconnected me. Now, I work at a call center and I know, if you disconnect someone, you call them back....so I waited. Nothing. I finally called back myself and spoke to another associate. She saw that the refund check was issued and sent out. Since it had been 10 days, she was going to issue another check. I was getting so frustrated that I finally asked to speak to a supervisor. I was placed on a long hold, only to get a call on the other line from LL Bean. I answered and it was the supervisor. I guess the person must have disconnected me too. I was told to continue to wait for the check.... I will not be shopping at LL Bean anymore. I believe their service has really gone downhill. I tried to ignore it for a long time but not anymore. There are plenty of places around with good quality merchandise, that actually fit better, so I will be shopping elsewhere. I'll update if I don't get the check. read more

We came here for a specific item that I'd seen online -- I wanted to see what they looked like in person, and this is the closest LL Bean to where we live, so over here we came. LL Bean in general is known for high quality, and often high price gear, associated with a certain tweedy Yuppie aesthetic. Bargains and deals can be found, and it's often a case of you get what you pay for when you shop here. Upon entering the store, we were fairly quickly assaulted (in a friendly manner) by a salesdrone, asking if we needed any help. They led us to the area we were looking for, and offered to show us how the packable backpacks worked. We assured him that we would prefer to browse on our own, and they faded away. Altogether, it was a pleasant shopping experience -- the store is big, and there's a huge variety of stuff on offer. It's generally out of our price range for the most part, but it's definitely worth checking out if you need outdoors gear and are in this particular price bracket. read more

Friendly, helpful staff. I was shopping for a new coat and stopped in at LL Bean. I was greeted when I walked in, and later a sales person noticed me browsing through the coats and offered to help. He explained the pros and cons of each coat as well as different features and benefits, helping me to find the right coat. After I commented that one of the coats seemed thin, given the temperature rating, he explained how the coats really work. The coat is not intended to warm you, necessarily, but to trap in your body heat. They work best if you put them on a few minutes before you actually go outside so that you have time to build up body heat and warmth. Who knew! read more

After spending three years living in Maine, and having friends and family work seasonally for the company, I am a fan of LL Bean. Not necessarily the stores, but the company in general. This store definitely brings the appearance that is recognizable to the LL Bean image and staff is friendly. I would say though, don't expect to find a particular item here. They have limited inventory and I can't imagine their turnover is huge so sizing is limited for clothing and footwear. Their prices are no deal either since it is not an outlet. So if you are looking for something particular and in a particular size, buy online or through their catalog since that is what they spend most of their marketing on anyways. Even with that said, this store's employees were very helpful and friendly and I was able to find the backpack and flashlight I was looking for! read more

Some background - I've been a loyal L.L. Bean customer my whole life. I've put my whole family in L.L. Bean clothing for decades. I've worn L.L. Bean clothing to some of the most important events of my life. My parents were loyal customers before me. It's one of the only brands I actively recommend to others. I needed some clothing and camping gear, so I traveled to this store from NYC a few weeks ago. I brought 4 pieces of clothing I had previously purchased and hardly worn. They were all clearly defective, and I wanted to return them. This is a tiny percentage of my clothing from L.L. Bean, which I'm generally very satisfied with (although the quality has seemed to decline in recent years). I thought I'd get some credit that would help pay for the new stuff I planned to buy, but I was more concerned with the principle than the money. I hold L.L. Bean to a high standard, and I was disappointed by the obvious poor quality of these items. I was absolutely shocked by the way I was treated by the store staff member who "helped" me. She was condescending and rude from the beginning. She told me that the clear defects in the products were due to "wear and tear" and that she wouldn't return them, even though I had proof of purchase. I understand that L.L. Bean has recently changed their 100% satisfaction return policy, due in part to people taking advantage of it, but the website still states: "If you are not 100% satisfied with one of our products, you may return it within one year of purchase for a refund. (Please note that products purchased before February 9, 2018, are not subject to this one-year time limit.)" All of the things I brought in were purchased before that date, and they were clearly defective. I was outraged, but I stayed calm and made my case. She reluctantly returned two of the items, but refused to return the other two. She continued to be incredibly rude despite my patience. Besides feeling deeply offended personally by the whole situation, this is just terrible business (I have an MBA from a top business school, so I understand the value of customer service). I'm not sure what's going on behind the scenes, but I can't help but think that this once great American brand is dying. I walked out in a state of disbelief, and headed to the nearby REI, where a literally dropped a thousand dollars on clothing and gear. I was welcomed into the store, treated kindly by the smiling staff members, and found everything I needed and more. Well I was hoping to come to this store and see more LL bean stuff in person that you just can't quite get from the seeing in person. The problem is the shopping complex isn't quite built yet and there are no maps to where everything is. It is very hard to find any store in this outdoor complex. Also parking is not free in this area. You have to either find meter street parking or a parking lot. The inventory in the store is no way close to the items on the website. There is very limited items in the store and due to the size it can be hard to find help. I spent about 10 mins to find a person to look for an item. They were very helpful once I was able to get to somebody. I would say stick to the website or another store for now, unless things change. read more

I'll welcome the grand, outdoorsy expertise of a Maniac (people from Maine) any day. You know ... teach an asphalt kissing slicker how to survive outside the house. L.L. Bean's slowly developing store on Ridge Hill can help me and you out with that. Just as long as you're fine with a comparatively small L.L. Bean establishment accompanied by a bad case of the disoraganizania. They do try their best to separate their clothes by gender, but I ended wandering around the store in a circle. After ten minutes or so, I found what I was looking for - a nice, grey trench coat. A nice, grey trench coat for 149.99$. Cotton on the outside and man made materials within. I'm assuming it was expertly crafted by a sweatshop worker in China, too. The term 'made in China' stirs a bit of distaste within me. Oh, the dark shadow beneath this L.L. Bean store and the L.L. Bean company amuses me in a stringently negative way. I'll still buy their stuff though. The name was forged in America and the trench coat is still pretty darn warm. Hopefully, it will last me quite a while. I'm also hoping for this new L.L. Bean to get it's act together. If you've been to the L.L. I buy from LlBean all the time, and find this location to be very organized, pleasant, and well stocked. It especially has a lot of women's and men's clothing. And it's great for outerwear/coats. It doesn't carry everything in the catalog but it's a pretty good selection. Bean quality is usually very high. The only negative is the Ridge Hill parking fee-- now they upped it to $4 and it really deters me from stopping by. read more

I had a great experience shopping at the LL Bean in Yonkers this weekend. I've been to the main store in Freeport, ME a number of times but had never been to one of the branch stores. The Yonkers store is of course smaller but they had a good selection of shoes, clothing and coats, among other things. The staff was exceptional - very helpful and friendly. I wonder how they attract and select such good people. Lynn and Robyn were particularly helpful but really all the staff was great. I'll still get to the Freeport store when I'm up in Maine, but the Yonkers store is also a fine place to shop and get your LL Bean fix. read more

As a regular customer of in store and online LL Bean, I was very disappointed with my experience today when making a $150 (all full price) in store purchase at the Ridge Hill, Yonkers, NY store. I asked that the clerk apply the 10% discount to my order, even though I could not find my discount coupon or email, after looking. The clerk seemed to take a little bit of satisfaction in telling me, "..no, sorry, can't do anything for you without the coupon.." I felt since we spend over $1,000 per year on average at LL Bean, they could see that giving me a small discount on this purchase was reasonable. I even called their customer service telephone number afterwards and got the same response, nope, sorry. I have always been happy with the quality of the merchandise at LL Bean, but this kind of experience will give me second thoughts on being such a regular customer of theirs. Avoid reviews of people walking in and leaving without any purchase or staff interaction! (Have seen a few tepid reviews.) L.L. Bean is definitely one of my favorite stores to visit at Ridge Hill. Service is always super attentive and their return policy is excellent. I know some people are afraid to purchase from L.L. Bean because it is a little bit more expensive than some people expect it to be. However, the return policy keeps me coming back again and again when an item tears or does not live up to the quality that I expect for the price that I pay. I returned a backpack recently and had absolutely no issue returning it I was able to exchange it with a brand-new one. I had the backpack for a year and was still allowed to exchange. I also was able to order a canvas bag they no longer had at Ridge Hill through another store. The store shipped it to me at my home even though the online store no longer had it either. read more

I went to this location to purchase my winter coat. Although the high prices made me hesitate, I have zero regrets with my purhcase. The quality was excellent and their return policy is unbelievable. I experienced the best customer service I have ever seen from a woman named Angel, she waited with me patiently and helped me find the correct size coat. She knew the science behind the materials used and how they effected how tightly the coat should fit. She made it feel like I was buying a car- took all of my questions seriously and did not rush me through the process at all. You simply can't beat the durability, comfort, and warranties that accompany LL Bean products. I'm a big fan of the original store - now sprawling campus - in Freeport, Maine. This one is definitely nice, but more of a pastiche of the basic favorites in a smaller retail setting. Not nearly enough gear, mostly clothes - but, the customer service won me over. So I went shopping at LL bean the previous week and got a coupon with my purchase, and long story short... I lost the coupon. So I spoke to LL Bean online and they said no worries they can fix it in the store. Perfect! So I go into the store first thing I do is make sure they can, a sales associate speaks to the manager and she say sure just tell them at the register. So I get my item and get to the register and I get this grumpy sales associate (probably because of the crazy holiday season) and she pretty much says nope you lost it too bad. Ok not what I wanted to hear so now I'm a bit upset. I go speak to the same manager that the previous sales associate spoke to and she was AMAZING! she probably realized that I was upset after I had just been told it was fine, by her and online, and completely rectified the situation. Ya know if I had just left they wouldn't have made any money, but since she fixed the situation not only did I but something this time but I will definitely come back again! Ginny, the amazing manager was so nice, and no wonder she is a manager because she's excellent with people. I also don't want the one bad sales associate to be a reflection of all the sales associates. The one I got probably just has had a stressful day/week. We visited the store today for the first time. I was pretty dissappointed. I expected something comparable to the Cabela's or Bass Pro Shops stores. It was far from that. I was expecting try on and buy some waders but they only stocked a couple. The fishing department was very minimal. I was hoping to buy some flannel shirts. I found one that I liked a lot, but I'm not paying $65 for a flannel shirt.. Store workers were great and accommodating. However it is my opinion that the products are ridiculously overpriced. I looked at back packs, small ones. 125 dollars for something made in Vietnam!!!! Are you kidding me... what a rip-off. There is no way a fabric pack made in Vietnam can cost that much and not be at least 75 dollars over priced. I looked at a few for 80 and 60 dollars, and the quality was nothing better than what I'd find a K-Mart for crying out loud. In addition... I am a former seasonal employee of L.L.Bean for the 2011/2012 winter season. We were integral in the grand opening of the new store in Yonkers. Initially I and my co-workers were given adequate hours to help stock the store for the opening. We were promised that we would be receiving substantial hours throughout the season. However, soon after the opening, we were told that the store was not meeting it's lofty goal of earning sums that exceed anyone's expectations and that all hours were to be cut. Thereafter, I received no more than 4 or 5 hours a week, sometimes none at all, hardly worth the commute and the parking fees. We all felt we were lied to about our earning potential and were really just used for the laborious act of opening the store and thrown by the wayside right after. This dishonesty and being used for the opening really got under all our skins. Please do not support this company; they pretend they're a green company but the amount of garbage generated by the store is staggering. Also, all they're grossly overpriced clothing is made overseas in poor countries with no labor laws, another company outsourcing it's labor and keeping all the huge profits from selling overpriced crap. We were treated terribly, like we wern't even people who had rights and feelings. Go to a store where the employees aren't lied to, where they aren't treated like dirt, and support a company that isn't deeply corrupt on all managerial levels. Thank you. read more
