Owned by the same family, I Vecchi Amici and I Ragazzi (on Burggasse a block or 2 from Volkstheater) share a menu with more or less simple, strong, basic pasta dishes and pizza. The zucchini and eggplant pasta is delicious, as are the many other pizzas. Service is great, very friendly and upbeat. Outdoor seating in good weather. I even had my birthday party here once, and they were very accommodating and fun. I probably eat here at least 2 or 3 times per month. Never disappoints, this fun place has become a fixture in my life!

This time, we had truffle pasta with beef filet, creamy truffle pasta, the Branzino fish, and risotto. We all loved the food! The service is ok. I mean, it's part of Viennese culture to be a little grumpy, perhaps less in an Italian restaurant, but it's still in the heart of Vienna. However, this particular time, they forgot our reservation and had only a table left downstairs. Since one of us is elderly and couldn't walk the stairs, other guests, who just arrived, traded with us. That was heartwarming. Unfortunately, we all ate with gusto, forgetting to take any pictures.

I can't say we were fans of the two margarita pizzas we ordered - they both came out really quick and undercooked (the crust was still doughy). We didn't complain - we just didn't eat the crust. The waiters were extremely rude and dismissive, especially towards tourists and foreigners. Their attitude made us feel unwelcome from the moment we sat down, and it was clear they had no interest in providing even basic courtesy. It's a shame, because the food deserves recognition, but the hostile and unprofessional service makes it hard to recommend this place to anyone. Until management addresses how their staff treats customers, I would advise looking elsewhere--you'll find plenty of good pizza in the city without the side of hostility. By the way, tip is included for this terrible experience. Save your time, do somewhere else.

Yeah, that was the day my friend and I had in Vienna a couple weeks ago. As we made our way back to the hotel, we tried and failed repeatedly to find open eateries still serving food. We would've settled for gas station grub, but that didn't even seem to be an option! Eventually, as we reached the same block as our hotel, we noticed someone working in Pizzeria Riva Italia, so we walked in to inquire as to if they were still open or not. They weren't. They had closed an hour prior. But the SUPER nice guy working asked us what we wanted and said he'd whip up a pizza of our choice. We quickly decided on the four cheese and he got right to making it...with a smile! What!! Aside: I love Vienna. I think the city is just incredible and I've never met such a friendly local population. So anyway, as my friend and I waited, we decided to pool for a big tip. This guy deserved it! So that's what we did a moment later when our hot, delectable pizza was ready to go. Except he wasn't having it. He ordered us to take canned sodas to go too!! We brought our food back to the hotel and basically inhaled it. Every bite was totally delicious...and the experience was made even better by the selfless, friendly guy working that night. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Donner in Vienna, in general: Greasy, full of white sauce and enormous bread greased by the meat that the sauce must cover (ya, try one without the sauce) Convinced by friend to try one here, and they are amazing! Meat is not greasy, and more a fajita wrap. 5.50 Euros vs your average 3 Euros, but filling in a good way. Usually I just grab and go, like happy customer. But the goodness convinced me to try inside as it seemed cute from the outside. Inside turned out crowded in a choatic way and dirty. We still pulled through because I assured my friend the food would be worth it. Menu options around 13 Euros, wine at around 3.60-4.70, 0.5L Soda Citron at 3.60. There is not soap in the bathroom (rest is ok). At the end we ordered donners, since it was on the restaurant menu and was so good. My friend asked not to have the bread wrap with it, just the inside salad and meat, same portion, nothing extra, and the lady refused to do it. That went into a whole argument, which they just flatly refused my friend's request. Dude, just don't add the bread part, what's the big deal? So after they refused, we still went for it, but after 30 minutes of waiting for something that usually takes me under 2 minutes standing at the door to get, I went up and canceled our order. She tried to push us to keep it (just 5 more minutes!), but after trying to get her attention for 30 minutes, forget it. Then, when the bill came, she charged me double for my drink. For real? I asked to see the menu, and without even going back to the menu, she then charged me the right price. Conclusion: Grab and go. Service is really horrible. And no soap in the bathroom....
