When Pierre played "Hava Nagila", all hell broke loose. Later, we asked Pierre if he was the owner (he wasn't). He invited us behind the bar, then poured us hefty glasses of wine for free. Discovering we were Americans, he blasted the American national anthem - twice. Friends and I emptied a few bottles of Sancerre (Domaine Paul Cherrier, 2008). We put one aside, where strangers accidentally finished it. They apologized profusely, then bought us yet another bottle. Needless to say, my time here was a blur of awesomeness.

Just finished a long bike ride to the Eiffel Tower and worked up an appetite. Decided to go straight to the main course. They are known for Au Gratins. My son is not a cheese fan so he opted for the norvigene (smoked salmon in dill lemon and EVOO. I decided to stick with the house specialty; Landais Au Gratin (cream potatoes, duck breast and emmental cheese). The 2 German girls beside me ordered a cider with both their meals so I followed their lead. When in Paris...... Considering the temperature, I almost second-guess myself and ordered something other than their house specialty of au gratin potatoes. In the end, I was very glad I overruled that thought. Brody enjoyed his meal. He just appeared to still be hungry when it was done and a 16 year-old boy that normally has a high caloric intake, I can understand why he wanted a second meal after eating his first! The restaurant in the patio were quite crowded even though we had reservations. They still sat us within five minutes of arrival. Not that five minutes is a long time to wait, but it was still worth the wait as good as the food tasted. We both enjoyed our meals.

Didn't blow me away, but was solid with the creaminess of the sliced potatoes and emmental cheese combined together with mixed vegetables. The cheese was very strong though, so anything else was unfortunately pretty much overpowered by it. Amazing. - beef stew - this was very tasty but we couldn't finish it so we take it to go. - sausage - probably my least favourite but still very favourful. Our server Olya was amazing, always checking up on us and making sure we were happy! She gave us a lot of recommendations which turned out to be amazing. So on the way back to the hotel we stopped by and within a short while we were best friends with the charming co-owner, Vincent, an ex-sommelier (speaks passable English). Don't expect anything too fancy as you squeeze into the table with a half dozen seats (there are also a couple of tables on the sidewalk), and we were apparently here on shipping day so the floor was overflowing with cases of wine. A steady stream of locals stopping by for a glass of wine and a bite at charcuterie at lunchtime. But Vincent really knows his wines, and if you do too, you will have a great time. We sampled what was open and then bought some special bottles to take back to the States. We also got a tour of their wine cellar, which is a very dusty basement that looked like it was dug out sometime around WWI. To top it off, Vincent decanted one of our purchases (we couldn't wait), and then we came back an hour later to share it with him along with some complementary charcuterie. Très magnifique!
