We were given the best seat in the house, which was a bay window with breathtaking views of the Matterhorn. Our waitress was very friendly and also joined us for conversation around the fire. She knew everything and ingredients on the menu, which answered many of our 5 course meal questions. After we finished our glasses, we were escorted to the table where we enjoyed a meal that was fresh with locally grown ingredients. Each dish complimented the next and paired well with the accompanied drinks. The dessert was a delightful chocolate finish to a meal well prepared. If I am in Zermatt again, all make sure to add this place to my list.

Michelin one star and well deserved…read more Note: This restaurant shares the same name as the hotel it is located in. Casual and welcoming. The crackling fire in the fireplace sets the mood. Like all Michelin star fine dining restaurants, this is all about sensory dining on a menu designed to focus on the flavor and ingredients of the region. Modernist cuisine plays nicely with the traditional. Note: Prefix menus include a full vegetarian option. Any item can be ordered ala carte as well. Exceptional amuse course in three bites teases you with the taste of mountain herbs to cheese, to pickles and breads. Menu descriptions are deceivingly simple guaranteeing a surprise as each dish is delivered and tasted. The "Risotto"; mushrooms, seven mountain herbs and the incredibly creamy, aged Acquerello rice (gratis from the chef), excellent. Vibrant green in color, mounted with Swiss butter to finish. Very creamy, exploding with familiar and new flavors including an pronounced herb similar in aroma to the original Ricola. Baby mushrooms sautéed in rich butter and aggressively seasoned in contrast to raw sliced white mushrooms adorn the rice. The earthiness of the raw mushrooms and it's lack of richness adds contrast. Such a simple but rich and delicious dish. "Edible Crab", a trio of fresh picked and simply formed rounds of crab topped by mysterious pickled this and that in an intensely flavored soup of green beans and zesty lemon finished with drops of citrus oil. The pleasing medicinal notes of the pickles serve to smooth the briny, oceanic flavor of the crab. So many foreign flavors that blend beautifully together. Outstanding. "Green Beans" - the essence of a bean. The highly concentrated puree with beans in various states of being cooked or pickled. Tomato adds bright acidity to the refreshing, intriguing "soup". Escalope (Venison loin), amazing. Simply seasoned with salt and cooked rare, excellent. Gamey in all the right ways. Extremely tender, dense, juicy and flavorful. It pairs well with the tart mountain cranberry sauce that heightens the pleasing metallic notes and a uber rich butter poached king oyster mushroom that brings meaty decadence. Finally the wiener schnitzel, done the way it should be. Very thin slices of tender veal surrounded by a golden brown, fluffy crust oozing with rich butter flavor. Impressive in its utter simplicity. Petit fours and assortment of incredible Swiss chocolate round out the meal. Exceptionally friendly service lacking any stuffiness. Extremely well chosen wine list focuses on the wines of the country. An excellent meal that showcases the region and what Swiss food can be elevated to.

The service was also very friendly! I would wholeheartedly recommend this place to friends and family for a special meal. Thank you!

There are some encounters that leave you simply shaking your head in disbelief. At Brasserie Uno,…read morewe had one of those. We happened to walk past the restaurant during an evening stroll and spontaneously decided to ask whether we could stay for a glass of wine at one of the small tables outside. We were told that this was possible, even though it apparently wasn't really part of the restaurant's usual concept -- so far, so good. We decided to have both a white and a red wine and, since there was no wine list, left the choice to the waiter. His recommendation for the white wine was a Riesling, which my wife politely declined, explaining that unfortunately she cannot tolerate Riesling. The waiter, however, was not willing to accept this and insisted that although it was a Riesling, it did not taste like a typical Riesling. My wife repeated that she had to decline because her intolerance is related to the grape variety itself, but said she would be happy to have the same red wine as me in order to keep things simple. The waiter seemed to take her rejection of his recommendation rather personally. He picked up the bottles and glasses again and told us that we were welcome to try another restaurant nearby instead. He would be making an exception for us here and didn't need to do so. I have no idea whether Michelin stars sometimes lead to a certain degree of hubris, whether he simply has a character flaw, or whether he was just having a bad day. Whatever the reason, the whole situation was beyond ridiculous. I have never experienced anything like this in a restaurant, with or without Michelin stars. I genuinely cannot understand how anyone could react this way to a simple statement about a food or drink intolerance. But even aside from that, this was simply poor and utterly classless service. We had actually been considering making a reservation for one of the following days. Looking back, we can at least be grateful that this experience lasted only a few minutes rather than an entire evening. Incidentally, we did still get our glass of wine -- just a few steps further down the street, in a considerably nicer setting and with genuinely good service.

The set menu was 59 francs, very reasonable for the quality of food. Atmosphere is intimate and comforting. Staff was attentive and engaging We hope to reserve a table on our last night! I was looking forward to trying the restaurant, but overall my family left feeling disappointed. We got a Bloody Mary (16 CHF) and were surprised when it tasted like spiced airplane tomato juice without any hint of alcohol. For food, we got the Ochiette vegan pasta, the tofu - mashed potato vegan dish, the Paglioni pasta, and Parmigiana pizza. They brought out the wrong order for me and in remaking my ochiette pasta, they likely rushed, and some of the pasta ended up undercooked. I was stuck trying to clean my teeth of undercooked pasta bits at the end. Otherwise the sauce tasted great. The teriyaki tofu - mashed potato dish was an interesting flavor combination. I personally actually didn't mind it at all and enjoyed the mild sweetness in the potatoes, but my sister didn't like the flavors mixed. We enjoyed the Parmigiana pizza and the Paglioni pasta. The entire time they played American music from before 2015 that weren't even the top hits. It was an interesting atmosphere.

We didn't understand at first because it was quite loud and then he ended up slowly saying, "Do. You. Understand?" While he said that I noticed a bartender shaking his head looking at us like we were idiots and started laughing with a waitress while looking over at us. That's not all... he seated us with no menus. I was looking at the menu online until a waiter finally brings some after a few minutes. That same waiter seemed stressed and said the f word after walking away from another table. We order our food and he brings some bread over... I honestly believe this was at another table that didn't finish it because it came to our table looking like this!! I didn't even touch or move it at all. I looked at everyone else's bread and it was nicely sliced. LOL insane. The pizza and steak we got were pretty good but the service was so terrible. I genuinely believe they all hate being there or they hate tourists. I'm sure there are better places in Zermatt with friendly staff and food that is just as good. Definitely go elsewhere.
