Arbitrary and ambiguous "Surprise Menu"
DO NOT ORDER the Menu Surprise!!!!! Food was delicious (tiny portions but we accept that) but what was included in Menu Surprise was ambiguous, arbitrary and we feel scammed.
(We asked when we booked the table that we would like to share the menu between two of us, they replied that they do not usually allow this but they will make an exception because it's not high season.)
We were told when we book the table yesterday that the 6 course Menu surprise comprised of:-
0. L'amuse bouche (salmon or tomato- after the meal they said it was counted as the first course)⁉
1. First course- duck liver
2. Second course- lobster ravioli (3 pieces)
3. Third course- a choice of fish or scallop (one piece- extra course compared to the 4 course menu)
4. Fourth course- beef (5 cubes)
5. Fifth course - pork belly which we did not get (said to be extra course compared to the 4 course menu but actually not the case)
6. Sixth course - dessert (sorbert / ice cream)
Today only when the dessert arrived we noticed that the fifth course (pork belly) was missing .
We were explained that today there is no amuse bouche and the tomato was considered the first course. Hence pork belly was taken out of the whole menu- (meaning we get one course less!) They said as it was a "surprise menu" it was subject to change every day.
So amuse bouche was included on the surprise menu yesterday but not today! Wow. That was very weird and confusing and we felt that was either arbitrary and/ or a scammer.
They have taken advantage of the ambiguity or they would have described what was on the menu.
‼IF YOU DID DECIDE TO ORDER THE SURPRISE MENU (not recommended), BE SURE TO ASK WHAT EXACTLY WOULD BE SERVED OR YOU COULD GET ONE COURSE LESS.
All in all, overpriced for a CHF 162 menu. For the same budget, we recommend going to Soulfood by Alan Pop- up or Alpine Gourmet. read more
