Have been to this restaurant twice and both times it was a disappointment. The food is only average at best and the dishes are all very salty making the seasoning the primary thing you taste instead of the flavors of the ingredients. The sauces are very heavy and rich, and not at all fresh and light to accent an ingredient. Instead, they overpower any dish they are on. The people are nice but I don't get the impression there are other authentic Italian dining options nearby, because any other restaurant with decent Italian food would really put a dent in their business. Also, the prices are not warranted given the quality of the food and dining experience. You can get a better meal at a more reasonable price at any chain Italian restaurant. read more

Good is good, service is "ok". We order to go most and unlike most restaurants you have to ask if they'll do a to go order. Frustrating and makes us feel like they don't want our business. You would think getting a to go order of $75-100 would be welcome as they don't have to wait on you or clean up. Maybe it's the wait staff who is less appreciative of the business. Nice experience. We came here on a Friday night with a party of 5. Made reservations for 6pm, which was smart because the place got busy later in the night. The server first started us off with warm bread accompanied by olive oil. I order the 3 styled gnocchi as my entree. It was very tasty and went nicely with the bread. For dessert we ordered the tiramisu and the almond amaretto cake to share among the table. I really enjoyed the amaretto cake but glad we shared because it was really rich. A bit pricey, but the menu is varied and the food is as good as it gets for this area. It is small and cozy and get a bit noisy depending on who is there, also easy to drive past it, as it is located in a small commercial strip and signage is small. I came here for a birthday dinner with my parents' friends and I'm honestly baffled as to how this place has more than two stars. I rarely leave negative reviews, but hopefully someone will be saved from the insulting prices for less than mediocre food and ambiance. I'm a huge foodie and am more than happy to spend out for a delicious meal, but calling this "authentic Italian" is just delusional. Food: My Dad's bolognese was so salty I couldn't have more than one bite, my snapper francese was positively drowned in lemon to the point where I couldn't taste anything else, and the same could be said for my stepmom's shrimp scampi. Worse, for those prices I would expect the pasta to be homemade and fresh, but this was clearly out of the box, and the bread was almost certainly from Publix. Not only that, but they served spaghetti and called it linguine. For $25+ per entree I expect better. I also had the pear and Gorgonzola salad, with literally had two chunks of canned pear, one walnut, and two crumbles of Gorgonzola for $12. The dessert came out and the amaretto sponge cake was wonderful, but the panacotta clearly didn't have enough gelatin and hadn't been allowed to set long enough- it was runny and barely stayed on the spoon. I would have been disappointed at all of these items for a $25 total bill, but $50/person was just insulting. Ambiance: I won't spend much time on this since others have already mentioned, but it was so incredibly loud that our waiter literally had to scream through cupped hands to tell us the dessert menu. For context: I'm 28, so please don't write off the other reviews as older people complaining just to complain. The ambiance was curiously basic and bare for a white tablecloth restaurant. No candles on tables, and they used the same kind of wine glass for both red and white. I Service: Our waiter was nice and well meaning, but clearly had never been trained well. The table was so cramped that there was barely room for him to serve, and every time he put something on the table his tie was in my lap or on the table and almost hit my plate a few times. The entrees all came out at different times and the wait time between courses was incredible. Bottom line: don't waste your money. Honestly, Olive Garden has better food, and I make it a general rule not to eat at chain restaurants. "Authentic Italian," this is not. read more

If you want a well prepared Italian meal and you don't mind spending a few extra dollars this is the place to dine. Just a few minutes northwest of the beach located in a business center. Proprietors Sal and Anna excel as restauranteurs. Our server Henry was very attentive. Many long hours are spent preparing the days specials. They offered quite few specials more than the average restaurant. We had Ossobucco Di Maiale, Costata Di Vitello alla Valdostana and for desert Bomba and Pannacotta. First time here and we look forward to coming back. In fact we live up the coast off A1A that it's quite possible we'll make a day trip out of it just enjoy L'angolo again soon. This restaurant along with with Osteria Rustica are unquestionably the two finest restaurants within a 30 mile radius. Hidden Gem! This is, without question, far and above one of the very few fine dining experiences you will encounter in Volusia County. A superb place to celebrate special occasions. The atmosphere is elegant. The food is magnificent! There was an appetizer special, escargot, to die for! My wife is a very finicky eater. The chef/owner was accommodating to a fault. He prepared chicken francaise for her, which was not even on the menu. And, as she does not care for vegetables, she was able to substitute them for oven roasted potatoes. We were blown away by the high quality of service. From the moment we sat down, throughout the meal and throughout the entire evening we were treated like royalty. The menu is not overwhelming however good selection of specials or you can request a special dish within reason. The service and chefs very accommodating to ensure your dinning experience at its best. Reservations are highly recommended specially Friday Saturday nights. Went to L'Angolo tonight for first time. Small, very nice decor but extremely loud, unable to carry on a conversation. My husband had Caesar Salad... $9, Veal Osso Bucco $37, he said was excellent. I had small side salad $9, Linguine Frutti Di Mare $25 with red sauce. I requested sauce on side & very small portion of Linguine. My entree arrived with plate of pasta, seafood smothered in red sauce. Seafood was ok, all fish & mussels, clams were over cooked with exception of shrimp which were perfect. For dessert Amaretto cake was good, I had a cappuccino. We both had ice tea. Total bill $105 with no alcohol!! Service was adequate, not exceptional. Out of loyalty to Sal and Anna we followed them to their new restaurant when they left Osteria Rustica. (Which by the way is still excellent and far superior to any competitor around). As snowbirds, we probably eat at L'angolo 5 or 6 times during the winter. Last night one special was a 16oz. bone in veal chop. I ordered it and ,as advertised, it was very tender but as I told my wife the taste wasn't anything special at all. As a matter of fact his veal osso bucco is much more tasty and flavorful. We ate and received the bill which showed the veal special I had was $60. I checked with our server (Laurie) to ensure the accuracy. She confirmed it . We paid in shock and walked outside where I looked around to make sure I wasn't in NYC or Palm Beach by mistake. I had never asked for ( or been told) the price of "specials" at L'angolo but that won't happen again. If the quality of the food was at another level then ,maybe, I would revisit but if they feel they can charge prices like that without exceptional food they will lose more customers besides us in a great hurry. I love the homemade pasta ($4 up charge, and worth it). Even the calamari appetizer was amazing and tender (most restaurants mess that up). Great evening! Ordered cantaloupe wrapped in prosciutto and a trio of gnocchi for appetizers. Great mix of sweet and salty with the melon and the gnocchi melts in your mouth! Yum! Our table ordered veal special with gorgonzola cream sauce (empty plate-happy face), lobster ravioli with seafood (also empty plate), fruiti del mare ( just pasta left), and shrimp scampi( Amazing ) with pesto. As an ameteur chef, I can tell u how much attention you must give a scallopine of Veal in order not to overcook it. How do you do that in a Restaurant atmosphere ? Sal does it exquisitely ! Had a reservation and almost walked out shortly after being sat down, wish I would have. Took over 10 minutes to even have a server but yet another table that came after was served water, bread and wine. Calamari appetizer was more sauce than meat, bread with olive oil was most definitely watered down and had 2 flecks of seasoning, awful. We both ordered specials and my husbands "Chilean" sea bass was small and in 2 separate pieces and was nor Chilean. My seafood Diablo was swimming in sauce and overpowering with almost no lobster on the trio seafood. When served, I was asked if I wanted Parmesan, I said yes but apparently this was more of a survey because I never saw our waiter again. Another women asked if I would like more wine and I requested the check. I stated that I was disappointed and she didn't care. When she brought the check i had a rebate card of $100 and she refused to except it giving some BS excuse. My husband has worked in restaurants for 30 years and knew she was refusing due to a fee. Instead of offering any apology for overpriced crap she argued and offered to show us the invoice for the sea bass. As I drove home I passed a McDonald's and wish we would have just gone there. The seats are uncomfortable and the tiny room doesn't allow for conversations above whispering. There also isn't much room to get up to use the bathroom (surprised there even is one, the place is smaller than most living rooms) and the tables are tiny. To be completely honest it's a shit hole. Everything sounded wonderful and looked amazing. However, my dish was extremely salty and my husbands was charred. Granted, he should have sent it back, but we had waited so long and the waiter was swamped. Needless to say, we won't be back for a long time. For the uninitiated, Sal brought an amazing and sorely missing authentic Italian experience to our area. And it's back! While the menu has ample choices, anyone familiar with Sal will be glad to know that even on a Wednesday there were 6 special appetizers and at least a dozen entree specials. What started out as a wonderful meal ended as a bad dining experience due to the arrogance of the chef/owner. The ambience, food quality, wait staff and the owner's wife/hostess make this a can't miss fine dining destination. However, when a mistake is made in the kitchen, the staff doesn't advise or apologize but instead the owner comes to the table to defend the error. His apology is condescending as he places before you a completely different entry than what was ordered. And then he charges you for it without extending to discount or comp (I still would have paid for it but its the principle). He doesn't even offer a drink on the house or pastry in good faith. Disappointedly, the server and hostess never returned to the table and the check was delivered by another staff member. Perhaps, they fear repercussion from an oppressive owner.
