Been a long time since we've been to Mario's. Did not disappoint with the service and food. Started off with glasses of wine and garlic bread. Bread was hot and very good. Nice sized loaf for the 2 of us. Candyce got the chicken parmesan and I got the Veal parmesan. Nice big pieces with a side pasta Alfredo super creamy and oh so good. Great service Great food. We've lived in the Daytona Beach area for almost 5 years and have driven by this restaurant multiple times. One weekday night we decided to try it out, and we're happy we did. First off, the restaurant is a lot larger inside than you would think seeing it from the outside. The colors are warm, the seating either bar, high tables, tables or booths. And, at the end of our dinner the restaurant was full, but it wasn't noisy. All of the staff were very friendly. We were promptly seated in one of the booths and perused the menu. We were offered a choice of bread or garlic bread. We opted for the garlic bread. Soft, warm, with just the right amount of garlic and butter. We started with the stuffed artichoke. I think we would have liked it better if the artichoke were a bit more "meaty." Most of the leaves were just breading with a sliver of artichoke. We were then brought our dinner salads. They were large. Lots of fresh ingredients. You could almost make a meal of just the salad. My husband had the lasagna which came with a meatball, and I had the Mario Combo which includes chicken parmesan and lasagna with a side of spaghetti. The servings were generous and hearty. The sauce very good. I judge Italian restaurants by their sauce, and this one was a nice thick blend of tomatoes and spices. What was interesting is that the spaghetti sauce seemed just a bit sweeter. We needed carryout containers for the leftovers and they packaged them very nicely. Took a star off for the stuffed artichoke which wasn't very flavorful. Also while the food was good, there was something almost sloppy about the presentation. Prices are about right, and you can get a discount if you sit at the bar or on the high tops... We'll come back again... we'll just make sure we're really hungry! read more

My first visit to Mario's and boy have I been missing out, this place has been dishing out delicious Italian dishes since before I was born and it's apparent the locals know this and flock here. The decor and ambiance is how I imagine a Italian Restaurant should be, from the lighting to the linen table cloths, great service and amazing food served hot from the kitchen. Our server was exceptional, not overly attentive but we never waited for anything. The courses were timed perfectly, there's no doubt this comes from years of experience, training and a well managed operation which is very rare these days. We chose a variety of things and none disappointed the portions were plentiful and filling and definitely makes you want to plan your next visit to explore the menu. This visit's feast included - a loaf of garlic bread hot from the oven, seafood stuffed mushrooms (a must try), a chilled house salad with Italian dressing, a Veal Rib Chop perfectly medium rare, roasted potatoes, spaghetti with sauce, lasagna, chicken parmigiana and then finally a box for the leftovers. Two stars as the waitress tried...but according to her she was being lied to by the kitchen. Saturday night, early about 6:15PM as we drove into Mario's it appeared to be busy. Once inside we were seated at the bar until our table was ready, about 15 -20 mins wait. No big deal, we've been here numerous times and the wait is always overrated. !0 mins in and we are seated. Problems begin here. Server took at least 10 mins to acknowledge us, even though she whizzed passed out table several times while we sat and waited. !5 mins later and we have our drinks and have ordered. Seemed pretty quick as she was back within a few mins with the drinks. Salads were prompt. But, our dinners never showed up. Wife had ordered the Chicken Marsala and I had ordered the veal chop. We inquired several times and were told we are the next ticket- maybe 6 minutes. 30+ minutes later we asked a busser for the check as our waitress had stopped coming by. A different server presented our check and told us the entrees had been removed. I agreed that they should as they NEVER ARRIVED after nearly 40 minutes and having been told numerous times our ticket was next. We watched several tables food get served before we asked for the check. Hostess/Owner asked how things were. When told we never received our entrees - she asked if we had them taken off the bill...No sh*t. No surprised look on her face, seemed like normal operations were in play. No excuse or even an apology. I have never said this before, but we will never be back - nor will we agree with folks about Mario's outstanding service. They have ruined themselves with their complacency. read more

Had our mother's 95th birthday Sunday evening. Everything was great! Service, food and atmosphere top notch!

I absolutely love the feel of this restaurant. Old school, comfortable and welcoming. The outside belies what the interior is like. Dark, cool and inviting. Our server was friendly and efficient. We all had the early dinner specials and three out of five of us had leftovers to enjoy the next day. We started with a calamari appetizer and a bottle of Soave. Off to a good start-the salads were fresh and delicious. Two of us had the Veal Parmigiana, one had the meat lasagna, one had stuffed shells and one had sausage and peppers with potatoes. The garlic bread was amazing. We all loved our meals. Is there better Italian food in the area? Yes. Will we back? Absolutely. This is comfort food at its best. We're talking lots of marinara and melted gooey cheese and sometimes it's exactly what I want and need. read more

We had ordered dinner for New Year's Eve it was a pick up. I must say the way the food was packaged was absolutely excellent. We did the full deal.. We had an appetizer of course the wonderful stuffed artichoke. Salads garlic bread veal Parmesan lasagna two different desserts. Every thing was fabulous again the individual packaging was excellent. We actually felt like our entrées Were a bigger portion of food than we have had sitting inside the restaurant. Can't say enough how wonderful it was hot and delicious. Happy new year read more

We had a nice time with our friends. The place was very busy and was told the bar area has been renovated. The bar looked great. They had plenty of staffing. Our waiter Dan was 5 star. The food was good. The sauces had great flavor. I really loved the garlic bread. It wasn't the best Italian food I've e had in town. I liked it but didn't love it. The waiter made it a better experience. I would recommend this place and would be coming back. I thought the bill was very fair. The bonanza wine was very good. The salads were very good. I can understand why Mario's is loved by so many but they're not for me. Nice place, excellent service, super busy, but I prefer bolder flavors. Garlic bread was great. I had the combo lasagna/chickparm and my wife had the clams dish (sorry, don't remember what they were called.) We both had to load it up with parm, red pepper, and all that to be eatable (for us.) I recommend Mario's for 75 percent of the population. Spice and heat lovers beware. read more

Ok, let's get the ambiance situation covered and then we can get on to the good stuff. This is an old timey old school Italian place. Nothing fancy and an emphasis on nostalgia. For instance they have a brand new, shiny fancy coffee maker. Right above it is a photo of the "old" coffee maker that is missed, but had to be retired because parts could not be obtained any more. They are remodeling now, the right side of the restaurant is closed. The remodel looks about the same ;-) but there is new stuff and a HUGE bar. We were there on Saturday night at 5pm. We sat in the bar where the patrons and tenders alike were friendly and laid back. A customer told me that Frank Love, bartender, has been working in the area for something like 50 years! The drinks were good according to our fellow bar sitters, there were many wines available. I drank the house Chianti because when in Rome... Hubby got the Josh. - 1 star...The food was great overall. I took off a star because as a previous reviewer reported, the pasta isn't drained before adding the sauce. Mine wasn't bad enough to send back, but my husband's was. He didn't though. The lady next to us got her pasta dry, with sauce on the side, presumably to avoid this problem. Since this was our first visit, my husband got the Mario's sampler. The chicken Marsala was recommended to me by another customer. I tried all 3 dishes in the sampler as well as my Marsala. The chicken Parm, lasagna, and Marsala were all great, plentiful, and well prepared. Both came with a side of angel hair (in sauce and water). I took photos of my neighbor's food too, that you will see below. For starters, they brought out garlic-ish bread, not soaked with butter and garlic, but topped with a sprinkle of cheese and garlic. It was good! Italian places have to get the bread right and this was perfectly crusty, chewy, tasty. We then got the calamari which didn't disappoint. It was served with marinara, which was a nice preview of the dinner to come. We finished with cannoli. Good and homemade. Please drain the pasta! Then I can give you 5 stars. Came here with friends for a special occasion. First time for us. We didn't know what to expect from an Italian restaurant. We were seated quickly, and the place was packed. We knew that from the parking lot. We almost couldn't find a spot, there were so many cars. They told us the specials of the day. They all sounded great. In the meantime, they brought out some garlic bread and toasted bread. We ordered some appetizers. The calamari was nice, crispy, and fresh. For dinner, we ordered Chicken Parm, Lasagna, Bolanesa, and Veal Parm. All of the meals were excellent and way better than expected. The food was Great. Plenty of food in each order. We had enough leftovers for the next days lunch. The ambiance was nice and Italian old school restaurant. Nice for a date or special occasion. I can't believe that we hadn't been here sooner. This was our first time going to Mario's and it certainly won't be our last. The restaurant was very clean and very much like an old fashioned Italian restaurant. The service was exceptional and the food was outstanding. They have early bird deals but for $2-$4 more you get a full size dinner which is double the serving, giving you plenty to take home. Their garlic bread was fresh and delicious. I had lasagna and it was absolutely delicious. My wife had clams and linguini and it was loaded with fresh clams. You can get the clams diced or whole and they are all fresh. I highly recommend this restaurant. read more

Considering the size and amount of patrons or volume I would expect the entrees to be less expensive. The decor or interior needs a complete make over carpet needs to go, wood paint lights it all needs a modern clean bright make over to justify the prices. The food was so good!!! Service was great! Tim our server was on the ball never had to wait for anything. It looked very crowded from all the cars in parking lot, we almost turned away. But we decided to go in and see how long the wait was. Here it was only 5 minutes and we didn't wait that long. Back to food. I think this was the hottest food that I have ever been served. I had shrimp fettuccine Alfredo which think was best I have eaten. My husband had chicken parmigiana. He loved the sauce, only thing one of favorite restaurant in Pittsburgh does to chicken parmigiana is the pound the chicken thin and bake it. This restaurant leaves chicken in the breast size. He also has cup of pasta fagolia soup. Again really hot, filled with beans and pasta. So good!!! If I wasn't so full I would have loved to try dessert. Maybe next time. read more
