L&W is a gas station, deli and convenience store and I would give each of those areas zero stars if possible. They systematically RIP OFF CUSTOMERS with "TAKE 2 PAY FOR 3" offers, serve dangerously undercooked food, and KNOWINGLY ALLOW two CONVICTED PEDOPHILES AND RAPISTS to sit in the store and beg for money and chat up children.
Their gas prices are usually about 20-30 cents higher than at other stores in the area and their pumps are frequently out of order or blocked for extended periods of time by restaurant guests who park there for the duration of their visit.
The food is all bought frozen and then deep fried and never for the right amount of time. I've gotten chicken tenders that were simultaneously burnt and frozen more than once. Basically, it is what you should expect in a place such as this but unusually expensive. A 3 piece catfish meal (no drink, two meager sides) costs almost $12, a standard hamburger by itself $8.
There's also often a smell of raw sewage hanging about the store.
Items such as candy, cokes and cigarettes are priced the same as in other local stores, but several items are "on sale" in ways that costs you more money the more you buy.
Examples of this includes:
Two pieces of catfish for $4.99, where a single piece is 1.99 - costing you an extra $1.02
One pack of 6 BC powders for $2.79, or a 2 pack for 0.69 - so one pack of six cost 72 cents more than 3 packs of two.
One 12 oz can of Coke or Pepsi costs
$0.89, but will be rung up as a sale of two cans for $2.15 - since two cans without the "discount" would be $1.78 you pay an extra 37 cents for this deal.
None of these "offers" (or any of the other similar deals) are advertised clearly - if at all - so unless you are paying attention as you are being rung up you will not know that you are overpaying.
In addition to this, the owners of L&W allow people to hang around the store for as long as they please. These are the people who block the pumps for hours at a time (parking is very limited) but the more serious issue is that the people are allowed to beg customers for money. This is NOT a rare thing, rather it is the norm. Both the staff and owners are aware and refuse to even discourage the panhandling.
TWO OF THE MEN WHO ARE ALLOWED TO SIT BY THE ENTRANCE AND BEG CUSTOMERS FOR MONEY ARE REGISTERED SEX OFFENDERS. They have both been convicted of several serious sexual crimes against minors. Although the owners have been shown proof of this they still allow both men to sit in their store and ask people for money or cigarettes in exchange for keeping an eye on their children while they run in the store.
L&W One Stop only stays in business because they are the only store within two interstate exits in both directions. They take advantage of their monopoly and have zero interest in keeping customers happy. read more
