After coming here for an inspection they tried to sell me on $600 worth of work which was not necessary and then gave me a rejection sticker on false pretenses ---- I followed up with a complaint to the DMV who ***after their own investigation*** cited L & S Auto/ North 10th Auto Center Corp, facility number 7119472, with a violation of the "V and T Law 306(d) Improper issuance of a certificate of inspection". I am also a local, and I don't doubt a few people who are friends with the owners get good service here, but BUYERS BEWARE. They are DEFINITIVELY NOT an honest business. read more

First time going to L&S and all I can say is that I was ripped off. My '93 Jeep Cherokee needed rear suspension and brake work. They looked it over and determined that the shocks needed to be replaced and the rear brakes rebuilt. No argument there. They did the work and when I picked it up the bill came up to $520. It seemed a little high but I paid (in cash) and drove away. Out of curiosity I googled prices of the components they replaced and everything was about 1/2 the price of what they charged me. I printed out my results and brought them to the service manager, Chris, the next day. He spoke in circles about how they arrive at their prices and that you can't compare what they source to what you find on the internet and said that if I called the auto parts store where they source their parts, I'll find it's twice as much as they charged me. So I did. I called Parts Authority (where he told me to call) on Franklin Ave, told them I was a private buyer, not a shop so I don't get shop rates, and got prices for all the parts on the list: Shocks $56 vs $140 Drums $72 vs $80 they charged to machine the old, rusty ones Shoes $29 vs $50 Brake Kit $9 vs $20 When I called the service manager back and reported what I found, his arguments were far ranging. They went from they did me a favor to work on my car to I didn't get the parts right to they used the "best" brands to they've been in business 20 years to he's not stupid and he's got two college degrees and speaks 5 languages to hanging up on me. I took my car in to get the brakes serviced and the oil changed. They charged me $150 for an oil change that normally costs around $80, and decided to go ahead and charge me to do the annual inspection, which I did not authorize. All of this is standard shady mechanic practice, so I let it slide. However, they also took it upon themselves to remove a lug nut from each of my four tires, causing all sorts of damage to my rotors and alignment, not to mention putting me in danger. He was quick and professional and didn't try to up-sell me on anything... he mentioned my rotors looked crappy, which they do, but didn't push me to replace them. There are basically two L&S autos. One is for locals like me who have been in the neighborhood for more than 10 years. These guys have been consistently great and have helped me maintain my 18 year old car year after year. They've told me what exact parts I needed for my car, showed me where to buy it and did great service now for over a decade. The 2nd L&S auto is for random people who want inspections. I've been reading some of their reviews and find it hard to imagine such bad service when I've only have gotten the best. My only advice is if you're local to Williamsburg/Greenpoint area come here and talk to Chris and tell him what you are looking for. I'm sure he will deliver with flying colors. read more

We bought a Subaru about a year ago and have brought it here each time we needed service. So far we're very happy. We got a couple of oil changes and an inspection. Every time we go, they are fast, deal with us fairly, charge good prices and accommodate our schedules as far as when we can drop off or pick up the car. Both times we got the oil changed we asked them to give the car a tune-up if it needed it. And both times they said it was fine. Really? A mechanic telling us that our car didn't need something? They hate anyone "not raised in Greenpoint" says we are responsible for the higher rents and property value of the neighborhood and pushing old timers out. I speak polish (they do not know it BTW), and they are always talking trash of someone in there presence because no one speaks polish. You are ALL stupid for going there because of "convenience!" BTW, they use "aftermarket parts" and charge Dealer prices. (and say they use dealer parts). Ask for proof! Wake up and stop trusting every one, you obviously are not from New York and prove it by being naive and stupid. read more

I've been here a couple of times, both for a state inspection (super quick!) and an issue with my car. Both times, I couldn't have been happier - the work was done quickly and efficiently, I didn't get overcharged (have done the same work elsewhere before, and the cost was comparable), and the guys even recommended a more cost-efficient way to fix the issue. read more

Chris and his guys are knowledgeable and super helpful. I came here to get a car checked out that I was thinking about buying, and they showed me how the salesman was trying to hide the fact that the body was rusted out. He gave me back my money and then a few days later, I showed back up with a new car. He checked it out for free and gave me a great price on the repairs of my 2003 explorer sport. Can't recommend highly enough. If you need someone who is going to guarantee their work for at least 2 years and who has more than a decade in the business the Chris and L&S is the right choice! read more
