Our newborn was constantly feeding but losing weight. Our insurance provided lactation consultants just said keep trying and things would get better. We knew being second time parents that something just wasn't right. We contacted Cathy and she was able to come out to our home in Alhambra quickly. She immediately identified our son had a tongue tie which explained all of our feeding issues. She also spent lots of time explaining about proper latching and showing us how to feed. She explained how to supplement with pumped milk just until our son started to gain weight which helped us avoid formula as our nurses suggested. Since the. I didn't realize breastfeeding was as complex as it is. I'm really glad I took Cathy's class! Knowing the stages and what to expect will help me feel confident that I am doing things correctly. She makes things very comfortable for mamas, encourages questions and has dolls to demonstrate positions. I always get more from doing instead of just watching. After speaking with friends who did not take a class and relied on the nurses at the hospital, I think it's really important you take the class. Cathy and her breastfeeding class was exactly what I was looking for on how and what to expect out of breastfeeding as a first time mom. I was about to take a hospital class when a fellow mom suggested I take LA Breastfeeding's class instead because of the fact that I can call Cathy for free advice once my baby is born if I'm having issues with nursing. That is a reassurance to me knowing I can have that one on one attention if I need it. She goes over all steps on how to achieve a good latch, maintain milk, and various positions on holding the baby, so now I feel ready for my little one to come and start nursing. She is an excellent teacher, able to explain terms and concepts in an easily understandable manner- but she's also engaging and makes the material interesting. By the 3rd or 4th day of breastfeeding my nipples were starting to crack and were red and raw. I was afraid that each feeding would be my last as I didn't think I could make it through the pain. I actually had already contacted Cathy while I was pregnant to have her ready to come to my rescue! She was super responsive and available to help ASAP! My nipples started healing within 24 hours of her correcting the baby's latch. She was so pleasant, easy to understand, and helpful even after the home visit. Cathy's 2-hour prenatal breastfeeding class was packed with helpful information and tips, and tailored to the group's needs. The class is taught in a cozy home setting with tea and snacks. Cathy was great at clearly and concisely explaining the anatomy and physiology of breastfeeding, doing hands-on demonstrations of different holding positions, and answering questions with evidence-based information. I was really skeptical about taking a breastfeeding class before my baby is born, but I had lots of problems with my first daughter's latch and nursing, so a friend of mine convinced me to do it, and I found Cathy through another mom on the east side. I'm so happy I did! Cathy was amazing, the class was relaxed but packed with information, and somehow it was interesting for the entire two hours. There were only two of us and Cathy, and the class was at Cathy's house so it was intimate and comfortable. This was great because that way she could answer all of our questions and sort of tailor the class to our needs, which were pretty different considering the fact I have already been through it and the other student was a first time mother. The fact that she lives in my neighborhood makes me feel better, because I can always call her for help if I have any problems this time around. I would highly recommend the class to either first time moms, or moms who have had problems in the past. read more

Cathy was seriously a godsend exactly when I needed one. My son was born early, and we struggled with breastfeeding from the beginning. I called L.A. Breastfeeding a week after his birth desperate for help getting him to eat properly. Cathy provided amazing support over the next month and, right away, she made an enormous difference in our life. Cathy was incredibly helpful when I was experiencing some challenges (without getting into too much detail) with breastfeeding my newborn. I was at the point where I was crying from the pain, most times that I fed my baby. I called Cathy on a Sunday and she came to my apartment first thing the next morning. She was very sweet and I felt comfortable around her from the moment I met her. She followed up with me to make sure everything was going well and she even answered questions I had several weeks after her visit. Cathy is amazing! I didn't realize my first experience breastfeeding might leave me feeling totally incompetent. After I delivered I saw a lactation consultant at the hospital who left me feeling worried, self-conscious and frustrated. She was loud and did not have a gentle approach and during the first visit, I was in tears. I immediately called LA Breastfeeding and set up an appointment with Cathy for when I returned home. Her bedside manner was calm and gentle. She was supportive and understanding of my anxieties. Cathy was extremely knowledgeable and after the first visit with her, I felt genuinely excited about breastfeeding! I also had the opportunity to take one of her group classes before I delivered. I worked with Cathy Redus. Cathy is kind, understanding, encouraging and has a great sense of humor. She came to my home when I was struggling with breastfeeding during the first week of my baby's life. She did not time and leave the visit after one hour (I had this experience with another consultant) but stayed until we were able to resolve the issues at hand. She was both hands-on and provided a great deal of background information. We made great progress in one visit and I felt so reassured about my ability to breastfeed my baby.
