I dined here on a weekend when they close at 11. I called at 10:20 and they said they were still open until 11. I got there at 10:30 and about 20 employees just stared at my friend and I like they hated us. First off, it's the weekend and you don't close for another half an hour. Realistically, the place should have still been busy at that time if they were doing well from a business stand point. Secondly, they should be happy they were getting customers. Yes I am a late diner, but also a truly phenomenal tipper. I'm not going to walk in last minute, but if I'm there half an hour before close I'm not going to feel bad, especially if I call ahead. Now to the food. I ordered the Kyoto fried chicken as an appetizer and it was amazing. It was like Japanese fried chicken (a tempura deep fry with the chicken in strips) and it came with a sweet honey-mustard sauce that was delicious. My friend and I ordered chicken hibachi with noodles in addition to the rice and veggies (we love carbs and carbs love us). The miso soup and salad that came out were above average. I LOVED the dressing on the salad, especially compared to the one Osaka uses. This is the same type of dressing Blu Wasabi uses and it's scrumptious. The chicken hibachi was also above average. The sauce was like a glaze and everything had amazing flavor. I asked for spicy mayo, but never got it. Overall, the food was a lot better than I expected, but I hate feeling like I'm bothering a restaurant or being rushed. I will definitely come again, but not so late. read more

We love to come here with a group of people for a birthday or just a night out with friends. The food is delicious and we love dinner and entertainment, the cook is always hilarious. It is one thing to charge good money for good food. It is another to not disclose the actual amount you will be charging the consumer and that is just wrong. Check your bill. Or don't even bother because at this place it doesn't seem to matter if nearly everything is incorrect on it. I dine here because the food is very good hence the stars. However, beware: the prices on the menu you're told to use are not the prices on the bill. Nearly every one of our items was overcharged by a significant amount. I was here recently. We chose to eat here to support a small business rather than a chain. They currently have you scan a QR code to read the menu for sanitary purposes. We did both dine in and take out (which apparently are supposed to be different prices because you don't receive soup with takeout according to the server but that's not true; they even overcharged the takeout when we checked) The best part is that when we told the server, he replied, "I don't know. I just hit the buttons, and it makes the bill." Ok, so this is a question for a manager. The server disappeared and came back 15 minutes later to say that the menu hadn't been updated and those prices on the bill are right. We never saw a manager. In fact, it seemed like once they realized there was an issue with our bill, we watched them all walk into the kitchen. It was getting late. The waiter or a manager didn't return to even take our credit card so after another 20 minutes we paid the bill in cash and probably won't be back for a long time. I probably wouldn't have written this review if the truth was that the online menu hadn't been updated (because I get COVID-19 has changed things), but as of today there is no update to that menu so this is still happening to diners. read more

The chicken hibachi was dry. The salmon was amazing. Unsure about the sushi, as we did not try it out. The only complaint was the chicken.

If you love sushi or an entertaining night of hibachi this is the place to go. The service is very friendly, quick and the chefs at each grill make your dinner experience fun and enjoyable. The decor is a little too simple for such an authentic place. Its one of the few things I feel are lacking. The prices are what is expected of any hibachi grill, ranging from around $20-$35 a piece. Each course comes with soup, salad, fried rice and vegetables. The choice comes when selecting what type of meat you would like. Chicken, steak, shrimp, and possibly lobster if I remember correctly. What I found dissatisfying was the cost (c'mon, the shop's located in a suburb of Scranton, not in a major metropolis) and that the guy ringing up the order decided to overcharge my credit card for a "tip". I've been getting sushi from Kyoto for several years. Always fresh and delicious. A nice variety of rolls.

They overcooked my shrimp and my steak. For that much money, they should be able to cook hibachi. I'm not going back.

I really enjoyed this sushi. I loved the balance of my veg rolls with the fruity roll (which you won't find just anywhere). The appeal of this strip mall residing establishment was that it stood out kind of like a hut, spacious but also suprising once the hibachi grille burst into flames right behind my table. I would say this was a good deal because I left feeling very full as most sushi meals I feel more satisfied than full. I liked how the waitress described the fruity roll as "fruity" as well, quite accurate. I'd go again for sure, had a grand time with the football game on the television in plain sight. We go here as often as we can with and without our children, everything is always fantastic, for entertainment value the chef's at the hibachi table are flipping knives, eggs, shrimp you name it, our favorite is the onion volcano make sure you ask for it as it is not always done, but it makes me and my kids smile, the portions are always more than I can finish, but it tastes just as good the next day. I used to come here when I lived in the area and I always held it at a higher standard than Katana in Wilkes Barre or Osaka in Scranton- the food, service, drinks, and ambience were always up to par and super classy. After last night, however, I'm definitely not returning here. Everything seems to have went downhill. 1) The 6 of us were part of a wedding party and the first to arrive. We were obviously unsure of the reservation details and indicated we were simply guests for the bride and groom. The hostess said, "okay you're the first to arrive" then just sort of stood there. We asked "can we please be seated then?" I don't think we should have to sit on the tiny benches and wait for everyone else to arrive- can we at least have a cocktail or something? She then asked "25 people right?" Again, details we do not know, as we did not make the reservation. She finally sat us once another server came over and helped out. 2) The "25 person party" section was just the regular, oddly-assembled tables behind the hostess stand - not parallel to one another but rather on different levels where we couldn't all see each other and talk. I understand they don't have a hibachi grill big enough for 25 people, but I would have at least assumed there would be a private room with a better setup to accommodate very large parties. Katana at least has the tables set up in a 4 by 4 rectangular room so you could still interact with other members of the party. 3) My aunt pointed out that the menus were sitting atop the clean plates. Which is kind of unsanitary, considering no one ever washes menus that people's hands have been all over(trust me, I worked in restaurants long enough to know this) so they really shouldn't be directly on top of where we were going to eat from. 4) My aunt and mother ordered hot tea and they arrived in handle-less mugs. I understand this is sort of the tradition, but they'd rather not burn their hands when drinking. We asked for mugs with handles and she handed us cloth napkins and said to hold them in that. Umm, okay. The Mai Tai was decent and strong, though, so I'll give them that. 5) The rest of the party arrived except the bride and groom, so I ordered a sushi roll appetizer to tide me over. I got the Dragon Roll which sounded good (soft shell crab, avocado, etc.). When it arrived, a very distinct fishy smell hit me in the face- a little weird, I thought, but I ventured a guess that it was the sauce drizzled on it. I ate the first one and it tasted a little off- like the fish had gone bad- but I thought maybe I just wasn't accustomed to soft shell crab. The second piece I investigated a little before biting and the crab was mushy and gritty and a muddy brown/black color- it was an off-putting consistency for sure. I took out the crab from the rest of the sushi pieces and just ate the rice. The crab sat in a muddy, sandy heap on my plate and I told the waitress it had definitely went bad. That made me lose my appetite for the rest of the meal and the smell and taste continues to linger on my palate. I haven't gotten sick yet, but if I do, I'll know what to attribute it to. 6) By now the full party including the bride and groom were seated. They took all our orders and brought out the soup and salad. It wasn't Miso to my dismay, but rather an onion soup that tasted bleh and had one measly, wormy looking piece of onion in it. The salad was hardy chopped and the lettuce pieces were gigantic. We didn't even get knives to cut at it, but the ginger dressing was tasty and creamy, so I'll give them that too. 7) The hibachi chef at our table immediately began cooking. In the time he cooked and served us and we started eating, the other 2 tables in our party hadn't even gotten a chef- it seems our guy was the only one on the clock that night. Which is ridiculous considering we made reservations for that many people and they should have had proper staff on. 8) As for the hibachi, I ordered the steak and shrimp and both were flavorless and dry. The shrimp was overcooked and the steak, though at medium as requested, was way too chewy and sinewy to be enjoyable. The veggies were roughly cut and not cooked long enough and since he sped through the whole process, nothing (including the rice) soaked in enough of that delicious soy sauce flavor. They took the sushi off the check, which is good, but I'm pretty sure I wouldn't come here again nor recommend to anyone else. read more

Pre-Dining Experience: We (a group of 6) made a Friday reservation for 7pm for hibachi four days in advance but ended up settling for a half-hour wait and a forgotten booth. The booth wasn't even quieter (maybe even louder) than the hibachi arena, which made conversation an inviable pastime. Dining Experience: Our waitress didn't know that we were at her table for the first ten minutes after we were seated. She brought our drinks in a less-than-timely manner but made sure she wrote down our order correctly. The most face-palm moment was when she served as appetizers from behind a barrier to the side of our table. The food itself is truly unforgettable, though. The sushi is artful, and Kyoto is one of the better sushi options in the area. The food is probably the sole reason for our first visit after 8 years. Overall, if you live in the area, make the trek to Osaka in Scranton for an outstanding hibachi and sushi/sashimi experience. If you're just passing through, Kyoto offers satisfying entrees and good-enough service. read more

Every Time I come here it's worth the money! If your willing to spend a little extra on dinner then this place is a must. Disappointed! Thursday night with 3 hibachi's open, we were told 1/2 hr wait. We left and will not return soon. Seriously made no sense.

We dined here with friends and it was an enjoyable night out. The food was excellent, service was great and no one walks away hungry. Went to this place expecting standard hibachi fare. It pretty much is what I expected. The staff is very friendly tho and our waitress made us feel very welcome. The owner even came out at one point and introduced himself and asked how our meal was. I got hibachi New York strip which was perfectly cooked and seasoned. My girlfriend got hibachi shrimp and filet. Her meal was perfectly flavored as well. Our drinks were refilled very quickly as well. My only minor gripe is the hibachi chef was very quite and reserved which I'm not used to in a hibachi chef. He also gave me a very small portion of the delicious hibachi veggies, tho I did receive plenty of steak. All and all I left there full and satisfied. Will definitely return. read more

Standard hibachi fare and OK sushi/sashimi. Grill tables are cramped so if you can do without the "show" or don't have a large enough party for a grill table you'll have a much better dining experience in a booth. That's not to say the cooks aren't fun, but quite often the people you might be seated with at a grill are a downer. That's a product of the people of NEPA though, if it doesn't involve Miller Lite, a fire, and vaguely racist conversation it is not fun. If you have to sit at a grill because of the size of your party, keep it simple with the ordering, you can get plenty of different cuts of meat but the odds of your cook remembering who ordered what and how is very slim. If you order filet and another guy ordered sirloin, you might get the filet. In one case a group of 9 of us all ordered some kind of beef and we all got the standard beef and charged the filet or sirloin price depending on what we ordered. read more

I like it. I'm not going to say It's my favorite Sushi Restaurant in NEPA (Kabuki in Peckville) but I have no problem returning again and again. Like other's have said, the price is a bit high, but not unreasonable. To those that compare it to Blu Wasabi, specifically Dissatisfied C., Blu Wasabi is owned by the same person, sells the same fish, prepared by the same chefs with the same wait staff (chefs and wait staff switch back and forth), and costs MORE than Kyoto. Kyoto gives you the teppanyaki cheesey fun factor. Blu Wasabi gives you a finer dining experience. That's the only difference. read more

Kyoto is the sister restaurant of Blu Wasabi in Dickson City and doesn't quite live up to its sibling. It is a Hibachi style Japanese restaurant where they will cook on a griddle built into the table. Overall the place the was pretty good, but I had a few complaints. First, the sushi was mediocre. I only tried the Tuna, but it wasn't that great. Secondly, the place is a little dirty. It's also dark which makes me wonder how dirty it really is, but they should really spend a little more time vacuuming the floor. My last compaint is the price, a little high for the quality of food. I will admit that it's comparable with other Hibachi restaurants I've been to, price-wise, but they're all too expensive. I guess you're maybe paying a bit for the show, but once you've seen it a few times and you're over the age of 12 it's nothing too impressive. Other than those complaints, I did enjoy the restaurant and the staff was very friendly. If you've never tried a Hibachi restaurant or have friends in towns, it's worth a visit. read more

Went on a Thursday night around 8 pm. Apparently mistake number one. Wanted a hibachi table. Mistake number 2. Both my fiancé and I ordered filet and scallops and filet and shrimp. They brought out the cart and I noticed the "filets" were butterflied already. They tried to serve us strip steak instead of filet. We may be young, but we're not stupid. This steak was apparently already expired and they were trying to cut losses. We tried it and immediately told the staff because it was inedible. On top of that, they served precooked shrimp and barely cooked the scallops. The owner came to the table and told us they must've confused what we wanted. Heard him asking why his The owner said the meal was on him. Then charged us for the sushi roll and tea anyway. I paid and we left while already feeling sick to my stomach within a half hour. Place has good sushi but nothing makes up for the lack of consideration for the customers. This review is a warning to anyone who's thinking about going here for anything besides sushi. Don't go here when it's not a weekend, holiday or birthday dinner. Before you walk in, ask yourself if food poisoning is something that you want the rest of your week to consist of. read more

Sophomoric service ruined our dining experience at Kyoto. It's such a bummer when a customer is made to feel like they are interrupting the waitstaff's fun and much-cooler-than-yours life. We went on Thursday, Dec. 8, 2016, and clearly no manager was on duty (at least not in the front of the house). The waitstaff got confused on who was waiting on us, the waitress said "I don't know, I think it's orange vodka with a bunch of fruit juices" when I asked her to remind me what was in a Mai Tai, so I politely asked her to check with the bartender when it became clear that she thought this answer was appropriate (are you kidding?). In fairness, she was friendly in a general way, the way you are to people you know you'll never see again, and our food arrived promptly. It's just that she slammed it down on the table, and didn't ask if we needed anything else when she delivered our entrees -- in fact every time she came to the table it was as if she couldn't wait to leave. Instant vanishing act. To be clear, we are not scary-looking, rude, people; we're pretty nice. To be an effective waitron, you have to genuinely care, a little bit at least, about your customers' dining experience. She was checking off boxes so she could go back to giggling with her friends. She almost splashed our soup on us when she slammed it on the table with all fingers on the rims of the bowls. Calling us "guys" multiple times didn't help. It's the cheapest form of false friendliness you can muster while giving half-assed service. Oh and she did the "is everything OK" check-back when we were 90% done with our meals. Seems like we've had better service there when the hostess was on duty. I expect better from a place that charges $20-$30 for entrees. read more

A favorite place for me and my family and friends for birthdays and get togethers. We love the hibachi. I enjoy the show and really like the food. The bar man is always nice and quick with drinks. Nice selection of wines. Never plan to for a quick bite at the hibachi grills. Plan to be there a little while. The time it takes to sit, wait for the chef, cook and eat can take a couple of hours but it's well worth it, IMO. Sushi is really good too. Always recommended for a fun dinner. read more

I love to stuff my face until I throw up at this resturaunt, it's just that good!!!!!!!. I have had a birthday party and it was it af, we hibached it up till we dropped that night!!! I was even able to bring my own cake, whatta service! The food is sensational, the chicken really gets me going, my BFF really enjoys a good hibachi cow slab (as you may have recognized the terminology from the last review for the Japanese resturant "Atami")I love when they throw wet minature shrimp at your face, xspecialty when it hits me right in the eye... it really gives my friends a good laugh Hahah. Them humoring me is my first priority since recently there has been a death in the family.
