Your best bet will be a place like this one where you're going to pay 2-3X more for an item than you might at the supermarket. Chalk it up as "convenience." :-)

I was surprised by the amount of items in this seemingly small store. The aisles were packed with stuff. This is not a very large store but there is a terrific selection. I was able to get my drink and was happy they used Styrofoam which I LOVE. I know it's bad for the environment but it keeps the drinks cooler so much longer. Bad on me. Yes, this is a convenience store but it's not your typical convenience store. They had the regular fare of chips and candies. There was just more to this quaint little store. It has a different energy. You got the feeling they weren't rushing you out of the store like so many other places. They had all sorts of tobacco choices, as well. A clerk even offered to help me which never happens in other stores. The staff was friendly and attentive. They were helpful and nice. A smile goes a long way in customer service. This store is easily accessible and it was easy-in, easy-out. Prices seemed reasonable, as well. Downtown Lawrence is a few blocks away so this is a great location. Highly impressed and pleased. Will go back again.

One star... don't do many of these. To be fair, it's not just this convenience store, it's this…read moreentire corner and the mini strip mall behind it that's all a part of one big hot mess on this end of town. Don't believe me? Read what the local newspaper wrote a few years ago. Google "Life and death at a Lawrence strip mall: At 19th and Haskell, hope and heartbreak are bought in balance." It's everything you want to know about stopping here. Little has changed the past five years. Pretty much everything what was true then is now. Including the infamous "Happy Feet Spa" where it's said anything goes according to that article. Just what I read, you couldn't pay me to approach the front door. A repeating cycle of Hail Mary businesses locate here. Some move on. Some gain infamy for all the wrong reasons. Remember the knife and gun fights at Playerz Lounge, right next door to the "Center for Change," a kind of network for people with drug and alcohol problems? Now add an out of business liquor store, various CBD hawkers that move in an out, second-hand stores, etc. I bring these up to point at that this seems to be this stores customers base. OK, enough about the corner itself. Seems this store which skews far more heavily into cigarettes, vape supplies, lottery tickets, more lottery tickets, even more lottery tickets, sugary drinks (all convenience stores do this to be fair), lots of other personal entertainment items many C-Stores don't carry, and tons of other things you have to request that are behind a counter. Too many to mention. The rest of the store has a free-for-all take on what most consider to be merchandising. To get an idea, the QuickTrip just 3 blocks to the South, night and day. No similarity whatsoever. This from a guy that as a rule enjoys sketchy businesses. Not here. Hard to mess with gas but this is not a place I'll stop even though it's about the closest to my house. The pumps are Ok, though typically dirty, unmaintained wiper fluid, etc, it's the clientele hanging out and folks parked in the lot that keep me away. An awful lot of things that scream "drive on by, there's better about 600 yards South." If you do go inside, don't expect anyone to greet you. It's all part of the experience. In a town that's really small enough that you can know about every single C-Store, this one pretty much takes the cake for being one to drive on by.

This is a busy store by an exit on a state highway. It is situated in a small town so they do a great volume here. This is the equivalent of a small town mall. They offer all the things a convenience store should offer. They have gasoline, refrigerator filled walls of drink assortments, candy, more gum than anyone could ever chew, beef jerky, cigarettes and lottery tickets. Standard convenience store fare. Everything seems to be in order and there appears to be a wide selection of products. I found myself inside the store when I went to get gas and the pump could not read my card. I decided this was a good chance to grab a sandwich for lunch tomorrow. They had a wide variety of lunch foods in the cold case but they were pricey. I was going to get some cheese and beef jerky but the small pack was almost $5. No thanks! The cashier was very nice and pleasant. The store was clean. I just could not get past the prices.

Unlike the holy mess of an excuse, one-star crapper that sits at 19th and Massachusetts Streets in Lawrence, its sole purpose apparently to thumb their nose at folks with Dillon's cards wanting cheap gas. This Kwik Shop has things the 19th and Mass doesn't: - the gas pumps actually dispense gas quickly. No 5 minute waits while it drips into your gas tank. - there is actually water and soap in the window cleaning buckets so you can wash your window. - there are actually paper towels in the dispenser too, amazing. - the exterior and lot is fairly clean and appearance kept up. - the lot is of the size that you don't feel like you can move without hitting someone, even if crowded which it was on my visit. - the inside was clean and the help professional. Yea, here's where I'm getting gas in the future. I head to KC enough that it's time to just bypass the horribly managed Lawrence locations. Bravo to little Eudora for the managers of this place doing a first-rate job.

Yep, that's reason to pull the car into the big parking area this area provides. The store carries most of the things you'd expect in a small Hispanic grocery of this size, but here's what got my attention: they have plans to open a street style taqueria with sit-down service in the next few months. Now THAT I can get behind. Chatted up a couple people working and they seem to know their stuff, planning to have tripas, pastor, lingua, barabacoa... the good stuff. The store also carries a mini assortment of home needs for the medicine cabinet as well, handy for some of the apartment buildings behind this complex, assuming they ever discover it. Asprin/Advil, toiletries, etc. With the plethora of pizza delivery joints in this complex, you'd think they'd discover it. Yea, maybe not. PIcked up some hot chilis, mayocobas and a Mexican soft drink. Big spender. Enjoyed the people working here, now keeping an eye out for that taqueria when it opens. If you come: it's in the far corner from both entrances. Credit cards accepted, including American Express.

Sometimes I'll duck in for a sandwich to take to work. I have been happy with all their food so far. The staff seem friendly and polite. They have been very helpful. Once the hot bar attendant made me fresh empanadas and I was very impressed. Great service. This store has all the typical convenience store fare. Lots of drinks, chips, candy and gum. There is also a Burger King and a Sbarros Pizza inside the store. This place is big inside and there is plenty of room. During the summer, they have an air gusher that blows cold air when the front doors open. Such a nice little treat for customers on a hot day. They also have a Savings Card where you can get your gas and earn rewards. There is plenty of space to park and access is not a problem. The store is clean and orderly. All good!

Kwik Shop's newest entrant into their presence in town is by far the largest, a new mega-station…read morethat combines two small dining spots with drive-throughs (Sbarro and Burger King, the latter not yet open). With about six gas slots and it's sparkling new pavement, it's new enough that it still looks like it just opened. And thankfully, unlike the corporation's other fuel options which are famed for their brutally slow pumps, the ones at the new location are just fine and filled the tank without you physically aging while doing so. The interior is clean, modern, and has all the usuals and a bit more that you'd expect at a regular C-Store. Surprisingly decent beer cave option with plenty of choices, coffee, snacks, etc. and a small dining area. The SBarro pizza actually looked worth trying... we'll see. Didn't try that option, but as a rule, pizza has never seemed like the thing to try from a gas station. Your mileage may vary, pun intended. Plenty of staffing inside, and everyone looked on the ball, something you can't say about the corporation's other locations. Will this positive start continue? I'd like to see that. One thing I didn't experience though: the hook for most Kwik Shops in this town is that they work with your Dillon's card so you don't have to take out a second mortgage to fill your gas tank. Why this is the case is a mystery but one I'll explore soon. New entrances from two sides of the street are improved over the previous set-up, not surprising. With drive-throughs for the two small chain restaurants they'll draw some additional folks in. As someone that is very much not a fan of this company due to the deplorable conditions and pump speeds at their other stations, mark me as wait and see what develops, but for now, this is a pretty good start. I'm also not a fan of a company that tears down other businesses to build something new that wasn't really needed in this town, but what was here was a sorry match of stores in a badly dated strip mall--some with questionable reputations (like, why would that dicey massage parlor really be open until 11 p.m.??? yea...)--or empty and shuttered windows. It was far past its prime and won't be missed.
