This is actually my favorite radio station in Austin!…read more I "discovered" I actually liked it after hearing it almost everytime I went to my friend Tim's house. I suppose up until that point, I just misunderstood the station. Especially the switch over to the UT station which seems to have a constant stream of kids talking about Star Wars. Anyways, back to KOOP. The community sponsored station is run by volunteers and it shows in their programming. They play what they like and they want everyone else to hear. Turn it on, then sit back and enjoy.

Local community radio! This non-profit radio station, 91.7…read moreFM is a cool, refreshing change from all the main stream radio stations. The station is like Austin- weird. Listening to this station, is the soundtrack to keeping Austin Weird. Since it's all local volunteers, the music selections are as diverse as the music tastes in the Live Music Capitol of the World! Seriously, if you don't like the music here, just wait a little bit. Just like the weather in Texas! The DJs change out every few hours, and each one brings their own selection of weird music. You're not going to hear Top 40 on here. I like the fact that there's no real advertisements on this station. They're all public service announcements, and local issues that they talk about. The coolest thing about this station is that if you wanna get on the radio badly enough, they'll put you on the air, and provide the training on how to do it! KOOP's mission is "to engage, connect and enrich the whole community, including the underserved, through creating diverse, quality, educational music and news programming." They fulfill their mission!

I really appreciate this station I listen to it online, right now dj kroc just talked about how maybe nobody's listening bc I think it's pretty late on the usa and I wanted to leave a review somewhere. I am listening ! and I love it thank you I listen online and I also love looking up the shows afterwards, the best when I don't catch a show live is when they're on mixcloud so I can get the full experience but if not I go to the spotify playlists or just put the songs in the order they're listed in on my spotify. so yeah, thank you kvrx!!! I wish there were college radios in my country I think they're the coolest thing and out of every college radio I've listened to online KVRX is my most favorite

It seems that they have to share their broadcast with Austin community radio, KOOP. But this station does the student body well- if you're a UT student, you can get on the air if you're interested! They'll train ya, and get you spinnin' vinyl in no time- you don't even need to be a broadcast major or anything! Got some good tunes to share? Sign up! The station is a community non-profit, so there's no advertisements like other stations, just the occasional public service announcement reminding you not to drink bleach or to register to vote. Informative stuff! They sometimes do special programs on this station, that are always interesting. They have an upcoming program on how to do a kickflip. Hard hitting! Ideally, this would be a good station to tune in at work, since you'll rarely hear the same song twice. I always hate listening to muzak or top 40 hits on repeat, which you'll never hear on this station. Tune in, turn on!

They play a lot of commercials, but do some good programming. Their country is less Nashville, and more Austin, highlighting artists from the Texas area. They play a lot of the classic country as well. The DJs take requests and give local weather and traffic updates throughout the day. The radio presentation is slick and professional, with nationally airing ads played regularly. They also hold the annual KokeFest, a celebration of KOKE. It's some big country bands! I enjoy how many of their songs are about drinking beer, trucks, and prison.

Was it fun growing up emulating Back To The Future, and were you surprised how long it took for Don Trump to get elected? Here's another idea.. go look in a mirror right now, go associate yourself with the other 300 billion people on the planet that don't "look like" you, and see if that conscious thought allows your other synapses to have a little moment known as "surprise" or "learning" or "awareness"? You know.. Guess what ? I'm a white guy! Yeah, and your comment is highly ignorant, small-minded, and self-centered. Wanna know especially why?... Cause you posted it online, you crass phony lil porcelain bowl. I see your 5s! Another weak white route to maintain "decorum" while you bitched publicly about the one little thing that didn't fit your mold. I hope you create something, and someone rudely shoots that sh$t down. I hope you put in time and effort and your heart and concerns of life into an art project, to be dismissed as useless because your creation is unfamiliar to some... Have you LISTENED to the lyrics of Black Kennedy?... It's a testament, it's positive, it's vulnerable. Welcome to Austin, however long you've lived here. Let others share a vision of art and expression that resonates with them, as ALL the DJs at KUTX play, and then go smile, settle down, and hug a person you don't even know. Good nite to you.

I've just recently discovered that I actually like La Mafia! They're playing it right now!! It's clear that our two Yelpers come here and have a good ass time. Not sure what goes on in the studio but they appear to get drunk or get the munchies (ahem) and cut up and play some really good stuff including occasional disco. Yep disco and other stuff. You don't need to know how to speak Spanish or even Spanglish for that fact to enjoy the broadcast. I love all kinds of music and while living here in Texas I have grown quite fond of Tejano. But, like I said I need Google. Now I have Google and the Disco Duck and wild man Larry E. I love listening to their shows and try to catch them on their usual Friday afternoons.
