The chai is absolutely delicious. The Chicken Ruby, Okra Fries, and Masala Prawns were my favorite dishes. House Black Daal is their signature dish, which is good to try. The restaurant is dimly lit for an intimate family dinner, but a bit loud. The restrooms are clean. The staff is friendly. The boyff wanted a lamb chop for starter - random I know - and we ordered the mains too. The lamb chop was cooked beautifully and was a decent chop of good quality lamb. Mains came out.... I had chicken tikka balti, which was lovely, I was surprised just how much chicken there was in the dish! It was cooked to an excellent standard and had lots of flavours running through it. The boyff had lamb jalfrazzi and he said it was excellent! He didn't talk the whole way though and was just nodding and mmmmn'ing! We had some Bombay potatoes as a side and they were delicious! I nearly ordered some just to take home with me. When we had finished, we asked for the bill, we were served fresh orange slices to cleanse our mouths with (obviously I ate them like you used to as a child and found it highly amusing), and some warm wipes. We paid and were bought the typical after dinner mint chocolate squares. The waiter chatted to us for a little bit and was so friendly, without being over bearing. Slow to brink us the drinks menu, the table for 5 was too small to accomodate everything that we ordered. To be fair enough, when we did order the food was excellent. Lots of choice, spicy and flavour some and the Kingfisher on tap went down nicely. I don't think I'd visit again - more likely to use as a take out.

The ones in America have a thick crunchy exterior and lots of veggie filling served with a nice Tamarind sauce. They did not offer Tamarind sauce ( brown sauce ). Odd enough the tamarind sauce that I have tried here from the grocers ( Morrison's ) was a bit vinegary. Perhaps that's how it is made here. I also had tried the Chicken Tikka Masala. That was also different here in the England. It seems it is made with a sweet sauce. I've tried several Indian restaurants and the Tikka Masala sauce all seem to be based on a sweet sauce. In America it's not sweet. It has a tomato, green pepper, basil and cream flavor. The Garlic Naan was alight. I would had preferred it to be more warm and crispier. The service was good. So was the ambiance. Because the food here is differently prepared from what I am used to, I think a fair rating would be 3 out of 5 based on service, ambiance and portions. It's a HUGE portion and just has a spice blend rub that I'm sure I won't find anywhere else. The poppadoms on entry and massive, crispy and more-ish. But this place has the naan bread down! It's fluffy, chewy and soaks up all the goodness we all know and love. Yes the food is good here but it's really winning point is the service. The staff are like your best friends, welcoming accommodating and will bend over backwards for you. A couple of visits ago I went with a friend who ordered strongbow cider. They didn't have it on the menu, so they run out quickly (whilst giving us free poppadoms to apologise) and came back with a heap of strongbow just for them. We found out at the end of our meal that one of the other tables was also from our hotel, a mile walk away. Overall, I think a simple menu done well. Suggestion, these two items should be together on your menu to avoid any confusion on pricing. The sauces also went well with our entree and naan. I let Jane and Oli do most of the ordering, since they are regulars and not everything translates into American English and English English the same way. We started with papadum and relish tray, and a couple of Kingfishers (on draft). For the table we ordered pillau rice, naan (2 kinds, but can't remember which 2), and saag paneer. I chose the Hozor Ki Pasandwalla Murghi because I wanted to try to pronounce it, and it's one of Oli's favorites. It's thinner sauce with nice heat and a good amount of peppers, onions, and tomatoes. He chose the Chicken Laknavi, and Jane chose the Chicken Pasanda. Everything was nicely spiced - heat but still flavor. Portions were generous - we probably only needed half as much, but we couldn't resist all the flavors. We were treated to a drink afterwards with our bill, and Bailey's was a perfect digestif with the chocolate. On our way out, we were given a 2019 calendar as a holiday present. I'm looking forward to another delicious and friendly meal when I'm back in Oxford!
