Good food, but had a very bad experience with the service ordering a Veg biryani. I got my take out order wrong, they gave us chicken biryani and insider know until I reached home. When I called back asking about it I was told to come all the way to get a new one and as a token I was told I can keep my chicken one. Wish they could have said sorry!!! If you want some great Indian food then look no further. Kurrywalah, a small restaurant on South Mason, is a blessing for us Indian food lovers in Katy. The service is great, pricing reasonable and to top it off they also deliver. What I also like about this place is how they let you chose your spice level (mild, medium or spicy). Personal favorites are the Chicken T Masala and the Saag Paneer. Also, their Naan is sublime. Believe me your meal is incomplete without some of that bread. This will surely be a regular spot for us. I have ordered food here many times and consider the food above average. The portions were large and value for money. Easily a two day meal. However, the last time I ordered instead of the normal large portion it was a mix of rice and main. Ok you say, but still the same price? There's about two thirds the original volume! I'd also ordered rice and there was nothing to say that rice would be included, so much was thrown out. Still good food but now overpriced. Whenever I am craving Indian cuisine, I think of Kurry Walah. They have a varied menu and I have loved each and every dish I have ever tried. My favorite has to be the gobi Manchurian, exceptionally succulent and juicy. To all you meat lovers out there, you won't even know you're eating a vegetable; it really is that good! We like to get some snacks like samosas and dahi baras for our evening tea and the best part is that they now also deliver in the Katy area! A co worker recommended this place for their chicken tikka masala and there also happened to be a Groupon for this place so I decided to go and I've been going ever since. The food is tasty, staff is friendly. It's never packed anytime I go, so I always sit in the same spot and order an array of food like I always do. On a whim, we decided we needed Indian food for dinner tonight. What a fabulous dinner we had! We sampled several entrees and appetizers and loved it all! We ordered the garlic rosemary naan, rice & a mild breaded chicken appetizer for our young kids and they ate it all. This is the second time I have gotten takeout from here. I love Indian food but sadly both times were been disappointing in the quality of the food. No problem with service. The main problem I had was their spice level: Don't get me wrong I like spicy items and will eat it but when I get a "medium" spice, I expect to be capable of eating it. Over the years I have had enjoyed many Indian dishes that break you out in a sweat due to its subtle spice level BUT the taste was so pleasant, you couldn't stop eating it. This is NOT one of those time where had so much cayenne, it was unpleasant to eat and the taste of the sauce was not exceptional enough to make you want to endure it. Our first time,I had ordered a medium Kadai and medium Chicken Tikka Massala. My wife and kids could not eat their Tikka Massala. The second time, I ordered them a mild butter chicken. I tasted the Butter Chicken sauce before giving it to them and there was kick to it. The kids wouldn't eat it even though they have eaten Chicken Tikka Massala, Kormas and Butter Chicken from other places. The second problem I have is their sauces. They are nothing special and I suspect it is a fry them up and go type of cooking. My Lamb Kadai looked like a spicy canned tomato puree with some chopped bell peppers and pre-cooked lamb chunks. Once I cut open the lamb, there is no trace of curry sauce. Higher quality Indian food would have the sauce cooked into the meat to give it flavor. I only went to KurryWalah a second time as the Cedar Mediterranean Grill next door was closed for Labor Day. I thought I'd give them a second chance. This is a pity as it is near to me and they would have had regular business. read more

Then the food was just blan..... when come to pay the bill, we were charged for 18% tip automatically!!! When did this happen???? Doesn't tip come from the customer??? Not demand from restaurant!!! I heard lots of ad campaign over radio about this restaurant, Thanks to Sunil Thakkar of Masala Radio , who shouted over his lungs about this place,I drove all the way from Sugarland to Katy, the inside view of the restaurant was only 2 tables being occupied, I should have used my least part of intelligence to know on a Friday evening the restaurant was only 10% occupied, anyways we ordered Chicken 65 and Chilli Chicken , to our horror it was deep fried in oil and was immersed in red color and some soy sauce, which was so hard to chew. and then the climax of horror arrived in form of Ch.Biryani which we ordered, the rice was still grainy and was so dryand insipid , we 2 could barely eat 1 full portion, and packed the whole 2nd portion, The patron sitting next to us expressed his genuine concern of finding a roach tredding on the wall, which even I noticed when it ran on the floor, was told that they had a exterminator visit this morning, which legalizes the presence of roaches in dining area. It was advertized as the Chef is from Jaipur , some 5 star restaurant, the food was way to less than a No-Star, sorry if I am being harsh... to our dismay, the food is cooked by 2 mexicans who must have been his helpers otherwise.....Such a bad friday for driving 50 miles to tase food below standards of TASTE.... read more

This is some of the best Indian food I've had in the area. The service took a little bit longer but it came out tasting great. Everyone was really helpful and they gave us some great suggestion. The garlic naan was really good but I'm not sure it it was worth the extra dollar. Only if you really like garlic. I want to try it again before I give it four stars. Before moving to Katy we lived in Houston near Himalaya , a great Pakistani-Indian restaurant. With Kurry Walah, we don't miss it.

My husband and I come here often. The appetizer, dry chili paneer or dry chili chicken is excellent and nice and spicy. The chicken curries are great and you can order it as hot as you want- I've ordered very spicy and needed a little yogurt to cool it off. The lamb dishes are very tender. The owners recognize patrons that come often and are very nice and attentive. The food is affordable and its a small casual spot in a strip center. Overall, this place is wonderful. read more

We have eaten here several times but this is my first review. Although I am a huge fan of chicken tikka masala, it's different here and not really to my liking. That said, we just finished a meal of spicy saag paneer and lamb madras, samosas, naan and raita. THE best so far. I have not gotten food to go, but the done in options are amazing. Great value for what you pay! The chicken birianhi is one of the best I have ever tried. I also love their butter chicken! Their mango lassi is also delicious and full of goodness. Ordering over the phone was fast and efficient. They quoted that the food would be ready in 30mins and it was. Samosas were excellent. Other items, lamb, chicken and fish meals looked and tasted as though the meat had been cooked separately from the sauces rather than with the sauces- for example the chicken meat was white throughout with no indication that the sauce had penetrated the meat. Sauces were ok- but the meat was not infused with them as they are when I cook curry at home- just added after cooking ( or so it tasted) Naan and Roti were both pretty stiff and dried out by the time we got to eat them A disappointing first visit- difficult to understand how other patrons have heaped such praise on the place. Shall have to try one more time now that the Mantra is closed and their buyer has gone 'up market'- hope for better luck next time. read more

We ate here for the second time and once again everything was delicious. Our server was patient and informative. She helped us to choose something new that matched our tastes.
