Kuramoto is a hidden omakase gem in Tustin, located in the same plaza as Raised by Lions Coffee and Terra Mia Pizzeria. The parking lot is small but I never had an issue finding parking when visiting businesses in this plaza. I made reservations for my cousin's birthday about a month prior through Tock. I was charged $100/person deposit to make the reservation. This is refunded on the day of your visit. I know they allow for lunch walk ins, but I believe reservations are required for dinner since they are a small intimate sushi restaurant and the chefs need to prepare some of these ingredients ahead of time. We arrived 10 minute prior to reservation time as instructed and we were seated towards the center of the sushi bar. In theory this would typically be one of the best seats in the house at any other sushi restaurant, but with the counter top being so high, I didn't really get to see any of the prep. Comparing this component to other restaurants in this price range. Also I felt like the chefs could have been more engaging... once again, just comparing it to similar experiences in this price range. At the time of our visit, the Kuramoto Omakase Menu ($220/person) composed of sashimi, starter, appetizer, 9 pieces of chef choice nigiri, interlude, specialty, featured, and then conclusion. We started off with a caviar tin with an assortment of fish eggs and some uni. This was one of the best bites of the night. Next was the chawanmushi, very delicate, contains oyster, shitake mushroom, gingo nuts, and shiso leaf. For the appetizer, we had a bite of karasume soba with mullet fish egg and quail egg. It was light and delicate. The quail egg really tied all the flavors together. Then for the nigiri, we had seabream with yuzu skin, kinmedai, amberjack with red yuzu, ocean trout, black cod with black truffle, stripejack with pickled wasabi and poprice, toro with uni miso, hokkaido uni with caviar, and ocean perch seared. The black cod with black truffle was one of my favorite bites. The interlude was a uni rice with unagi. I actually don't like how the uni was so mixed into the rice. The taste was less distinct than if I had the uni on its' own. I ate the unigi and tried to salvage the bits of uni I saw but at this point I was getting full and could not eat all this rice. Their specialty was a wagyu wellington. The name was more impressive than the execution. It visually looks like a handheld pot pie. To make it heavier they put it on a bed of potatoes. As I took my first bite, there was no "wagyu" There was very little filling. I think they can adjust the size of the pastry dough to fit the amount of wagyu they used instead of a huge piece of pastry dough with light filling. The savory items conclude with their featured dish, which was a Japanese dashi soup. For the dessert, or the conclusion, we had a shiso granita made with plum wine and white wine. My cousin's birthday, and other celebrations, were acknowledged with a candle lit dessert. I want to extend my thanks to Megume-san who took great care of us the whole night by refilling my hot tea, and clearing our space expeditiously. She was so sweet she even got a cup of hot tea for the road. Interactions with her made us feel like valued guests. Our meal was mostly enjoyable and my cousin had an amazing birthday celebration. I was just disappointed in the lack of showmanship for a meal in this price range.

I took my husband here for a birthday celebration and not only was it a worthy one of presentation and taste, but my husband who usually never gets full off sushi left with his belly FULL!! Kuramoto is located in a small complex with plenty of parking, we came for the 6:30 omakase. Service was attentive and though the high top required you to sit with others, it was quiet enough where it felt private and nice. I was personally blown away by the sheer quantity and quality of dishes, and felt like I had enough variety not to dull me out. Our chefs masterfully made everything and I could not be more happy to have brought my husband here for his birthday celebration. 10/10 recommend, you do get your reservation deposit refunded after your meal, which is nice for the wallet.

Oi-shit! So oishiiiiii! Our tradition for our anniversaries is typically going to an Omakase, and since moving to SoCal, it was a tough choice on which to land on, and I'm delighted we decided on Kuramoto. Chef Taiki is a powerhouse. Every dish is thoughtfully created, with such balance and flair! And he has a great sense of humour and commands his counter with such cheeky finesse. The setting is intimate, nicely airconditioned and comfortable seating for an Omakase experience.

You need to make a reservation which is $50/person. You wait till your time opens and then you go. Small room with 1 tabletop. Lunch omakase deal is great for $68. Friendly servers and chefs. The one we had today was very friendly and engaged in conversation. All the fish tasted fresh and loved the pairings that went with them. They put a candle in the dessert for the birthday person which is a nice touch. Would totally go back! SYOY

This is definitely a place where you splurge for a special event. I came for my husbands birthday, and the price is quite high especially if you get a drink plus tip. However, the food was EXCEPTIONAL. Every single fish on the nigiri was SOOO incredibly tender and melted in my mouth. Some of them were also very fatty. None of them was too fishy or chewy. The Hokkaido uni was one of the best I've had, so buttery and creamy. They also ended with some noodles and a fish filet sandwich. I've never had a fish filet sandwich at omakase but loved that they had their twist/version of one! Service was super good, they constantly checked on us, refilled our waters, and each dish came at a perfect pace. I loved the ratio of rice, wasabi, and fish with each nigiri. The inside of the restaurant also is very intimate and clean. Highly recommend!!

Omakase is one of my kind to enjoy the specific dishes from the chefs. First time here, I Enjoyed the ambiance, the timing of the dishes coming out, chef explained each dishes as it was being served to everyone at the dining table. Great customer service, The sushi tasted very fresh. Tbh, with this price we should have more grade 5 meat, compared to Kame Vegas .. they use high quality meat from the bid. Still 5 stars rated.. !

Finally got to try the sushi omakase dinner at Kuramoto for my birthday dinner, and it was a great experience. Chef Kuramoto served up a delicious meal from beginning to finish. Everything was so good but my favorites included the Hokkaido Uni, black cod w shaved black truffle, kanpachi, toro with uni miso and eel uni rice. We had the 6pm first seating and arrived early to sit right in front of Chef Kuramoto. There were 14 seats and at least 9 of us were celebrating birthdays lol. Dinner will be over before 8pm for the next seating. There is only one dinner omakase available. The food, service and ambiance were all excellent. This is definitely one of the best sushi omakase in Orange County.

To start off, kuramota is located in a plaza with ample parking. However the store itself has no sign except for a marked door. Therefore, I would park first and enter second. The service was quick and the chefs are a bit on the quieter side since they're focusing on the food. The ambiance inside is incredible. It's so intimate and perfect for a date or a night out. I went for the lunch omakase and it ended up being around $85 pp. This was actually a very good price considering the amount of food I had and the quality of the food. We went right as it opened and celebrated my friends graduation, hence the special candle on top of our dessert. Overall, I would easily come back. However I would also want to try the dinner menu.

We made reservations to celebrate a birthday here after reading all the rave reviews of this spot and ended up loving this spot. It's a smaller restaurant with two seatings a night. Each course was thoughtfully prepared and beautifully presented with my favorite being the perch hand roll. It was perfectly torched which made the fish melt in your mouth with a hint of smokiness. The main course ended up being an a5 Wellington that surprised us with the chefs creativity. My only note would be that it felt a little heavy compared to the rest of the meal but we still thoroughly enjoyed every bite of it. This spot is perfect for a date night or if you're in the mood to celebrate an occasion.

Everything was absolutely delicious! Every course was incredibly fresh, beautifully presented, and full of flavor. The sushi practically melted in my mouth, and I loved being able to watch each piece being prepared right in front of me. From beginning to end, everything was thoughtfully done and the quality was amazing. Even the soup and dessert were delicious. Such a great omakase experience during lunch-- I'll definitely be back!

Kuramoto is a small Japanese omakase restaurant located in a plaza in Tustin. The storefront was very unassuming and there was only one small sign on top of the door. The restaurant is led by Chef Taiki Kuramoto and opened 1.5 years ago. We made reservations and they don't take walk-ins unless you're able to take a spot if another party cancels. When we walked in there was only counter space in a very sleek and minimalistic interior. We found out about this restaurant on social media talking about the lunch omakase ($68). That is a great deal for an omakase so we wanted to check it out. The meal started off with sashimi salad and we really liked the sweet shrimp and dressing. Then we moved to the soup with shrimp, mushroom, and steamed egg. Next was the variety of nigiri including sea bream with yuzu (good), ocean trout (really good), amberjack with dashi soy sauce and red yuzu (good), stripejack with pickled wasabi and puff rice (really good), black cod with lemon and truffle salt (really good), bluefin tuna (really good and my favorite), and toro with pickled radish (good). At the end of the meal we had Santa Barbara uni and salmon egg, dashi soup, and chocolate mousse. I liked the faster pace of the food coming out because I personally don't want to be waiting long periods between meals and sitting for a long time. Overall it took a little more than an hour for our meal. For the value the meal was great. There were fewer courses than other omakases but we left feeling satisfied and it was way more inexpensive. And of course, the food was delicious.

First time visitor Open parking Reservations yes highly recommended as it is very limited seating available! Also note busy and quiet time of the year that may impact your experience with the chef and choice of food. There is a lunch service but much more condense and sounds to be quicker while dinner there is a 6pm and 8pm. Bar dining only one main room only Authentic Omakase experience with Chef Taiki Kuramoto There is no menu, the Chef sets the adventure! The menu is rotated every 2 months! Dress code not sure but it very appears up scale but also pending the occasion can vary. Essentially there is not a set dress code that was stated. Service was wonderful. We were fortunate to have the dining room to ourselves. The Chef was very personable and passionate for his craft! Ingredients were locally sourced or directly from Japan. Each dish was explain and even his head server was very pleasant between all transitions of service and providing explanation of what was being served. Though can be seen as a pricey experience, very worth the once in a treat / celebration / try something new adventure. Each dish offer a different taste, fresh delicate flavorful that was not overwhelming and in the form of hot, cold, a hint of spice, utilizing multiple proteins both high end and simple along unique ingredients - was able to taste multiple combinations that involved 2 types of yuzu uni caviar duck liver There was also a flavorful broth that was comforting and cozy and reminded me of a palate cleanser and the dessert simple chocolate mousse that was not overly sweet to close off the experience. Very much would return again for curiously of next seasonal menu. Wouldn't recommend for young children. Very thankful to have the opportunity to dine with good company, high quality service and dishes, and a passionate Chef.

I really love OkiDoki Meiji, especially their Cold or Hot Egg Tororo & Mentai Udon. I had egg…read moretororo in New York and had been looking for a restaurant that served tororo ever since, but I couldn't find one until I came across OkiDoki Meiji. Now it's my favorite dish and what I order every time I go. Their udon is house made, and you can really tell in the texture. It's so comforting and chewy. My friend always gets the Spicy Beef Udon and talks about how good it is every time we go. The restaurant itself has a simple and cozy atmosphere, but that's part of what I like about it. The focus is really on the food. I've never had to wait too long. The last time we went around 6pm, we were seated within a few minutes and there were still several open tables. The service has always been great. Everyone is very friendly and attentive, and they regularly check in to make sure we have everything we need without being overbearing. If you're looking for a cozy spot for udon, especially if you're a fan of tororo, I would definitely recommend giving OkiDoki Meiji a try!

They never disappoint me with their monthly special udon…read more What impresses me most is how the udon tastes great no matter what ingredients, sauces, or cooking style they pair it with. March‑only Crab Tomato Cream Udon -- The best of all the specials. A rich, slightly cheesy tomato‑cream sauce, plus a whole deep‑fried soft‑shell crab you can eat shell and all. The crab is the highlight. May‑only Omukatsu Udon -- Soft‑springy noodles and a nicely fried pork cutlet, but the curry sauce leans salty. A few hidden meat slices in the noodles are a fun surprise. June‑only Spicy Sesame Sukiyaki Udon -- The star is the broth, not the beef. A sesame‑fragrant, mildly spicy (about 1-2 out of 10) sukiyaki broth that's rich without being overly salty, perfect for dipping the beef slices. July‑only Sea Urchin & Creamy Udon -- Sea urchin with a thick, creamy broth. I finish every drop. The noodles stay bouncy even after 30 minutes. One bowl fills small eaters; big eaters like me barely reach 50%. August‑only Prime Beef Steak & Garlic Udon -- A bowl that's both refreshing and hearty. The steak is about 20% fat, 80% lean, with soft, springy tendon that adds texture. Comes with a small bowl of pickled jalapeños--very California. September‑only Cheese Curry Udon -- The chef torches the cheese for about 20 seconds. The udon absorbs a slightly sweet curry sauce and comes with sliced aburaage and a bit of beef. Shabu Shabu Udon -- Sukiyaki‑style sliced beef with a lightly sweet, clean broth. They give plenty of meat. Shigure Soba -- Perfect for this scorching SoCal summer. The chilled noodles come topped with minced meat that has a refreshing bean‑like aroma. Other small dishes worth trying: Homemade Sesame Tofu -- A dense and silky tofu, served with wasabi and the sauce at the bottom of the bowl. Homemade Dashimaki Tamago -- The omelet soaks up a lightly sweet sauce at the bottom of the bowl. Soft, thick, and layered, best enjoyed with grated daikon.
