Let me just say, I made a Yelp account specifically to write THIS review. I experienced the worst service Today! It all began when I walked into the restaurant with my sister. I was not greeted, or spoken too and the cashier ASSUMED we were coming in for the buffet, she RANG it up in the cash register before even asking if that is what we were going in for. I corrected her and said "we are actually getting sushi for takeout". The cashier then (rolls her eyes!) cancels the buffet charge on her computer, and asks "what sushi do you want?" Without handing me a menu. I tell her, "can I see a menu?". She shoved the takeout menu IN MY FACE!, i let it slide and begin to order. Cashier then tell me "wait!! I don't want to get your order wrong!", she walks away to get another woman who is loudly complaining (we only have the take out menu!!!) as she walks up behind the register. This new woman then SNATCHES the menu away from me and begins explaining that the take out menu has combos, she points to all the combo items and says "you see!! This one has sushi and this one has sushi!" I tell her "yes i see the combos, but I only want sushi". So she puts the menu behind the counter and asks me "ok! What sushi do you want then?!" I again ask her "can I see the menu?", this woman, like the previous lady SHOVES THE MENU IN MY FACE and aggressively asks "what do you want!?". At that point I could not believe these ladies were treating me like a nuisance, they almost seemed UPSET i was ordering food!! I then told both of these ladies "never mind, I'll take my business elsewhere!" You are better off going to Lucky Sushi, where you are greeted right as you walk in their restaurant, and treated with respect, as a paying customer should be treated. Never going here for food ever again. I ended up going to Las Quesadillas right next door. Delicious food and kind staff! read more

I love Pharr location because is the closest location to our house but this one is closest to our work so we gave them a try, place is really cute and new, fresh and minimalist details and service is always perfect but I found a hair on the sushi area, not even in my plate, we told to the waitress and she change all the sushi plate but it was uncomfortable, anyway I know this happens every time everywhere and I love kurai so is not the big deal read more

Most disgusting place they don't care about hygiene just your money. They defrost meat and poultry in dirty sinks use the same rags for every surface and never sanitize their dishes. The owners walk around sticking their hand in food being prepared with out gloves so by the time you get your dish who knows how many hands have touched your meal. Went the first time for lunch, not too bad. Went a 2nd time, all the meat was cold! I understand a lot of the food is probably from the evening before, but for 12 bucks a buffet it wouldn't hurt to heat it up properly. If you plan to stop and eat here, make sure it's for sushi. The parking is very limited but it's not because the food is killer. First of all the sweet and sour soup was extremely salty. It should have been labeled salty and unenjoyable. For the life of me I have no idea why this establishment does not serve unsweetened tea. They serve flavored tea and I think they accidentally added the sweetness from the sweet and sour soup. The pork dumplings has some type of vinaigrette sauce on them that basically made them inedible. Plus they need to make sure that all the food is labeled correctly. I took a rather large bite into what I thought was broccoli in tempura batter but it turned out to be a pretty spicy Jalapeno slice. Thank God I'm not allergic to spicy food and I enjoy it. But man!!! Did it catch me off guard. Walking into Kurai and aren't a motorcycle parked on the handicap ramp should have been a sign that this was not going to be a pleasant meal. DRIVE-THRU: this place was terrible. I was the only person in the drive thru line and still waited 15 minutes till anyone even came to the window then another 10ish minutes till I got my order. This place was very good. I enjoyed the many selections of different kinds of sushi provided. That had to be my favorite part. Food was always tasty and fresh which made it even more enjoyable. My boyfriend loved the sweet and sour chicken. He said it was better than any other Chinese place and I agreed. A good place for a dinner or lunch date it was definitely a come back location. I'm not a fan of sushi but this place has really good sushi for people who also are not big on raw fish. They have great noodles unlike places that uses spaghetti noodles and like Panda Express that doesn't even compare. Go on the weekdays for a good discount and you won't be disappointed. Servers are a bit slow when it comes to getting you ice cream and one guy never really asked if I wanted a refill but either way I love the sushi choices they have even though I'm picky I have to have sushi from them at least once a month. read more

This place is good during lunch for the price. They have a wide variety of choices, but the sushi is really small... most of them are really good. The mushrooms I had were undercooked. I really recommended the chicken teriyaki and the orange chicken, it's pretty good. All in all, I will be returning. 3/5 is my rating, only because some of the food is either undercooked or burnt... My first time eating at Kurai on Trenton, very good experience. The Suchi is delicious, many options. Was a little skeptical about the place after reading all the reviews. You must go and try it yourself. There was a review about heated lamps on the Suchi. Yes but they are over the fried Suchi. The raw Suchi and tempura are kept in cold area and are often rotated. They provided fresh ingredients and the rotation was often. Good service as well. read more

When they are doing the $9.99 all day special it is worth the price of admission. The hot food was well prepared. However the sushi was truly disappointing. Not that I expected too much for the price but the entire selection was rolls. All but very few rolls were made with cream cheese which I do not enjoy. The real disappointment was the fact that the sushi had almost zero fish. I managed to find two thin pieces of Cali roll with a sliver of salmon. I will skip it in the future. read more

We have family down for the holiday and were trying to figure out where to eat. We went out on a limb and decided to try this place out. It turned out to be the best decision! Everybody loved it and we all said we'd definitely be coming back. The food was delicious and the chefs were continuously bringing out replacements to the buffet line so trays weren't empty for long. The sushi variety was plentiful and they also had more to choose from (soups, noodles, chicken) for those who do not prefer sushi. The service was wonderful. I recently went to the Kurai in Trenton and was horribly dissatisfied, specifically with the service from the employees that were responsible for preparing the sushi. When we arrived, they had run out of one type of sushi that my whole family usually enjoyed, and when we asked them to prepare more, they said they would but the entire time kept looking at our table and laughing. We waited the whole hour but eventually decided it was not worth it and left. This wasn't the first time we noticed how poor the service was, but it was most definitely the last time.
