Last time I went to this LJS, I got the buffalo shrimp with a side of coleslaw, and those crunchy bit thingies and some hush puppies. Do I dare say it was really really good? Yes. The employees were really REALLY cool. Love those guys. It's also not blinding when you walk in. I hate restaurants with too bright lights. I'm not a little kid, but me and my older sister had fun messing around with the crayons and paper at the front. Oh, and the cheesecake? This is definitely not a Chinese hot pot restaurant. The head cook and bottle washer (I'm not…read morekidding!) didn't even know what a hot pot was, even though they've owned the place for years. I'm surprised that they didn't change the name. She told me that someone else had stopped recently thinking that it was a Chinese place. Seeing the pumpkin pie under Desserts on the sign as I entered was a clue. I thought "oh, what the heck!", and she said that she'd bring a menu to me in just a moment. There was only one person seated in the restaurant but it was possibly too early for many people. After a short delay, she arrived with the menu and asked what I wanted to drink. I ordered a sweet tea. Perusing the menu, I thought I'd try the meatloaf sandwich. That sounded like something typically Indiana. She was out of meatloaf. (As I learnt later, the walk-in cooler had been repaired but she had thrown out possibly spoiled food and was waiting for the cooler to become cooler.) I ordered the fish tail sandwich. Rather than just have a little rectangle mostly hidden by the bun, this was long enough to be seen quite well on each end. I bit off one end before taking the photo, so sorry about that. I also ordered seasoned fries. It took a little while, and a couple entered, so the woman in charge of it all had to multi-task. I wonder what happens if she's really busy. The food was good, although the seasoned fries could have used more seasoning. They seemed to have a layer of breading with mild paprika, when they should have had a mix of mild and spicy paprika. The food was prepared as well as you could expect, and it was obvious that she cared. She and her husband took time to talk, which was quite pleasant. They weren't intrusive but they seemed genuinely interested. She was definitely interested in what a hot pot was. Being between Quizno's and Mancino's, someone might miss the place, especially with the McDonald's drive-thru line into 30th Street. Shouldn't it wind in front of Kroger's instead? Geez. Of course, people could just avoid McDonald's and go to The Hot Pot Restaurant. Update 2013.09.24: I was in Connersville photographing cross country and stopped ahead of time. Tried the meat loaf sandwich and a taco. I wish the meat loaf had as much meat as it had loaf. It seemed a bit spongy. The taco was okay but it really didn't compel me, either.

They said they would make one with a different bread and I said that would be fine. When I went to get the sandwich out of the sack, there was a large glob of tarter sauce smeared on top of the wrapper. Opened the wrapper, the fish was cold, the cheese was just thrown on there, there was so much tarter sauce on the sandwich you couldn't taste anything else and causing the bun to be soggy and falling apart. It was a sloppy mess! I wasn't even given any napkins. I feel it was done intentionally. No one could be that bad at making a fish sandwich so horrible. I couldn't even eat it. I had also ordered a milkshake but wasn't given a straw to drink it with. I paid $10.00 for something I couldn't eat. I tried to call 3 times and it just kept ringing. They weren't even busy. Seeing all the choices in Cambridge City, I went to Connersville. I haven't been to a Quiznos since they closed the store in Richmond. Unlike Florida, there aren't many in Indiana or Ohio. This one was in a Shell station and convenience store where a Noble Roman's used to be, not unlike the Quiznos in Richmond. The staff were friendly and helpful, and wanted to do the best. They even asked multiple times if the food was good. I had a Classic Italian on Rosemary bread. I don't usually try different breads since I'm not in love with bread already. I'm sure it would be good for someone else but it brought back a memory of some rosemary-infused potato chips combination. I also got a small bowl (the small is more than a few spoonfuls but not much) of the broccoli cheese soup, which is good. I've had several recent experiences with Subway and I still find the meats and cheeses at Quiznos to be better but Subway has closed the gap quite a lot. The overall experience was so much better, even in a convenience store atmosphere. Tables could use more attention but there were several available and that's a plus.

This is a neighborhood bar that has good food, and a true regular crowd on the bar side. Big tables, if you have a group of 6-8. There is a less loud dining area. Monday to Sunday daily specials, some menu items you don't normally see, frog legs and chicken livers. Don't hesitate to try this place out. The Saturday we were there there was an issue with the pizza oven so our crust was a little burnt in a few spots, and very brown on on side, but the pizza was still good, plenty of sauce, cheese , pepperoni, mushrooms. Our waitress apologized, and offered to replace it, but we said we'll take it, I like a crispy crust. The boneless wing are a hit, very good, they have a thin breading with a hit of pepper, and a hint of other spices, they are delicious naked. I got the sriracha bourbon sauce, and honey bbq, I mixed them for a perfect flavor of sweet and heat for me. Well I had to get a pork tenderloin, it was delicious too, comes with tavern chips, yum! The beer choices are from the Anheuser-Busch and Miller brand, no fancy domestic beers or imports, or local brews, but that means no expensive pints, and I rediscovered my original favorite Michelob! Wait staff is friendly and service was acceptable for a packed bar full of folks watching Big10 football. So if you're not a regular find a seat and they will get there, in a few minutes.

The restaurant isn't well marked, but it's on the side of a Speedway gas station just off I-70. I saw good reviews on Yelp and had to check out the food for myself. The restaurant dining room is pretty dated, but clean. The staff is Midwest, small town friendly. We were seated quickly and immediately our drink orders were taken. Water was on the table quickly. Our server checked on us frequently. Service was great. I had a burger. The $8.90 burger comes on a huge fresh sesame bun with generous helpings of lettuce, tomato, onion and pickles. The burger itself was just ok. The burger also comes with a side and I had coleslaw. The slaw was some of the best slaw that I've had in a long time. I love a good coleslaw. My husband had the breaded pork tenderloin which is prepared in house. The breading was well seasoned and the pork tender. Again the lettuce and tomato toppings were generous. The pork tenderloin gets high marks. The restaurants gets a steady stream of local regulars and traveling truckers coming in for breakfast. The portions are generous and you're not going to leave hungry. Prices are really reasonable. There is plenty of parking and the restaurant is easy on and off the highway.

Pleasant Diner embedded in a gas station right off the interstate 70. We went based on the Google…read morereviews. I do think that perhaps many of the ratings are a bit higher than our experience. It could have been an off day for the kitchen team. I do suspect however that the food quality, and preparation is consistent and it just didn't quite meet what I would consider a four/five. I have travelled quite a bit throughout the world, had some really awful things and some high end, highly rated meals/places. It is simply decorated, and was reasonably clean. The server staff was friendly and effective, no issues with any of that. They even calmly managed to navigate a power outage that occurred, fortunately right after we got our meals delivered. I got a BPT sandwich and fries, and ordered a side of coleslaw. The slaw was actually pretty well done, crispy, just enough sweet to balance with the tang of vinegar. Where they fell off a bit on execution (or product choice) was the BPT. It was more of a fritter (likely frozen) vs. a pounded actual fresh pork tenderloin cut. It was thin, a bit "bready" throughout (not just coating). The bun was a tad bit stale, but they had toasted it as a good move to counter that. My wife got a turkey ranch wrap with fries. The name could easily be changed to ranch and hint of turkey wrap. The turkey prep is small cubes (may or may not be a Sysco bag of cubes type product), and there was simply too much ranch dressing, the cheese and vegetables were lost in a too wet, undisciplined glop inside of a spongy tortilla. It looks okay, but just doesn't hold up in actual eating. I wish them continued success, but I don't think we would be likely to stop again as we pass through the area.

PROS: -decent sized space between tables and hi-tops…read morethroughout dining area, a large wrap-around bar, a sun-room-esque space of the northeast corner, and an outdoor patio area -extensive menu of variety that includes sandwiches, pizza, and mexican -server was friendly and efficient throughout our meal experience -Texas Twist Pretzel ($15.95) filled out what would typically be used for a 12-14" pizza and had the height of a deep dish. Nice crunchy and salty exterior with a soft bread interior. You may select 3 from their 4 sauce offerings for dipping. We chose the beer cheese, nacho cheese, and brew pub mustard. Mustard was sweet, which was OK, but we were hoping for something leaning more into the spicy zone. The four of us ate maybe 2/3rds of it before our meals arrived. Very different from anywhere else I have seen and would definitely consider again. -Wife and I shared a 12" Veggie Pizza ($19.95 on menu, but noticed we were charged $9.25 on receipt) that looks like a Pizza King pizza, but is much heavier. It was generously loaded with cheese in addition to mushroom, onion, green pepper, and olive. We ate a little more than half of it. Absolutely would consider ordering this again. -Father-in-law ordered the Fish Sandwich (12.95), which is advertised as an 8" filet served on a hoagie bun. It looked all of that size when it came out and he seemed to enjoy it. He took half of it home. CONS: -Acoustics in the main dining area can make it difficult to have a conversation at your table. -Father-in-law asked if we could eat in the sun-room space, due to his hearing aids, but he was told it was reserved for 4 hours later that afternoon, so we were seated in the main area. (Discouraged as we saw a family seated in the sun-room space an hour later after the main area had mostly filled.) -[*I didn't learn about most of this until afterwards, otherwise I probably would have said something.]. Daughter ordered the Chicken Wrap Dinner Special ($10.95), which can be ordered grilled or breaded (she ordered grilled), came with cheddar cheese, shaken in choice of sauce (she ordered buffalo), and is served with fresh chips and cole slaw. The cole slaw is mayo-based instead of vinegar as she was hoping. Her chips, while to their credit were freshly made, were not completely finished as several of them were still raw. She said there was no buffalo flavor to her chicken and it just tasted blah. On top of that, she felt miserable the rest of the day, so we're questioning the handling of the chicken. OVERALL: -Only initial hiccup was where we were seated, so I would have leaned more towards a 4.5 star review. After learning about the multiple issues with my daughter's experience, would probably lean more 3.5 for our family as a whole. Bottom line, would return and order the pretzel, pizza, and other sandwiches, but stay away from the chicken options and perhaps make sure they finish preparing the chips if you get them.
