Here are things I wish somebody told me before I went. The beginner salsa level 1 class was not truly a beginner class. I signed up and was expecting a step by step breakdown slowly. Within five mins, we got into the salsa and I was so lost. Things slowed down a bit when you partner with people but it was the same steps several round so it was kind fast then slow. Overall, it was really fun and this class was more for meeting other people in a dance Zumba class than actually learning the salsa steps. One of the guys said bachata might be better to learn bc it's slower. The receptionist didn't do a good job telling me what to expect as a first timer. I had no idea what room to go or when to go in as everybody was waiting outside. I followed the people that was there to a class. These instructors are amazing! Karla and Alix are full of life, full of love for what they do and full of encouragement towards their students! Such a warm and welcoming environment even during this pandemic they manage to follow all precautions and safety measures to take care of us while still keeping a fun and relaxed atmosphere. Dance patterns are great, engaging and challenging and you just wanna come back to learn more! I had a hard time putting together the right words for this review- and not because it's a bad review! I've been dancing since I was able to walk- it wasn't until I graduated high school that I completely stopped doing it because I no longer had the time to anymore. Of course, I always wanted to get back into dancing, but the older I got, the more scared I became about not being able to pick it up the same way I used to. I was on Facebook one day and noticed one of my friends from work had been dancing at a studio. Excitedly, I asked her for the details- she told me my first class was free. The rest is history! Needless to say, I was able to pick up getting back into dance rather quickly. Kumbala isn't just a studio, but an experience! This place quickly became my second home. Instructors like Karla and Alix have made such an impact on my life in such a little amount of time. They're constantly there to give me the push I need to be the best dancer I can be. Karla and Alix are so patient, confident and truly love the art of dancing and that is what has made the difference for me! The studio has become such a safe space for me and I've even made some friends at the studio. Going to dance classes gives me something to look forward to every week! As someone who grew up dancing and danced at several studios, this has by far been my best experience dancing at a studio in a very long time. Kumbala seriously saved my life- with the anxiety/depression I was feeling given the pandemic, this has become the one place where I can relieve the stresses of the outside world and has helped tremendously with my mental health. In addition to that, everyone who works at Kumbala makes sure that this is a safe space to dance and they take all the proper precautions against COVID-19 (Did I mention that they even do online classes?) I'm so excited to be able to go out dancing again when the world is back to normal, with everything I've learned in class! I love this place They offer tons of classes for different levels. If you are a beginner, trying to advance your dancing skills, or even in the area looking to make new friends this is your spot! The instructors truly care about your experience. Karla is amazing at helping you get out of your shell and challenging you to get better. Alix is so dedicated to helping each individual with any questions you may have. Especially with crazy times like these, this place has been my outlet.
