Love ramen, had been wanting to try since their opening!…read more Service, below fair. Not attentive. Slow. Forgetful. Low effort. Atmosphere worse with the very loud K-pop music and the restaurant's food app constantly dinging at the highest of volumes every 3 seconds. Acoustics, not great. Seating not the most comfortable. Tables are tiny. Not a lot of room. The food.. the fried chicken appy is a must.. perfect fried and golden, come out nice and hot. Gyoza with garlic and onion, good. Would get plain gyoza if I came back here. I love onion but it was a crazy amount. I kept most on the side for my ramen. Ramen.. not a lot of choice. I settled for the popular Black Shin which just means black garlic was added to the Shin. I brought my own cayenne pepper which is good as they kept forgetting to bring the chili oil. I never got it. Had to ask many times for soy sauce, came at the end of the meal. The noodles themselves were good. I brought my leftover broth home, I never waste a drop! Alcohol, you can choose from a beer (Sapporo) or sake. We opted for just water. Maybe an ok place for take out but I would think twice about being seated in here.

TL;DR: Delicious ramen at newly opened (summer of 2024) place in Westboro…read more I've had Koichi Ramen Westboro twice now. The first time, I was surfing UberEats for deals, as I often do, and saw that Koichi Ramen Westboro was having a BOGO offer, $20.90 for 2 bowls of their Signature Ramen. So that's what I got for my husband and I for dinner. I ordered and picked up. It was ready in about 10-15 minutes. Pick up was quick and staff were courteous The ramen was fantastic! You get to choose your protein and I was thrilled that chicken breast was an option because I don't like pork belly, which is the usual meat in ramen. The ramen also came with bamboo, black fungus, bean sprouts, nori and green onions. The ramen was springy and chewy. They were generous with the sliced chicken breast. And the broth was so rich and flavourful. You get to choose the spice level and I got medium, which was perfect. It had a bit of a spicy kick, but not overwhelmingly hot. Be warned that there are sesame seeds in the broth, but luckily for me for takeout they separate the broth and all the sesame seeds settled at the bottom so I was able to just scoop the broth from the top so I avoided the sesame seeds. I definitely recommend the Signature Ramen! There's plenty of seating in the restaurant and the decor is simple but nice. A week later, I went back for round 2, lol. This time I tried the Vegetarian Curry Ramen, with chicken breast as my protein. It was also BOGO on UberEats and was a bit less than the Signature Ramen at $19.75. This ramen came with Bok Choy, corn, mushrooms, bean sprouts, a sheet of Nori and some green onions. I got it the same medium spice, but it tasted significantly hotter, lol. This Ramen was also delicious and I still have a hard time deciding which one I enjoyed more. I loved them both! So I also recommend the Curry Ramen! And since the broth is vegetarian, if you get tofu as your protein, the whole bowl can be vegetarian. Street parking only. (130)

The edamame was classic as well with salt, can't go wrong. Cool decor with small wooden stool and paper lanterns and a big window which I believe opens up in the summer. Service was great and not pushy or overly attentive. Definitely will be back to try out of few other menu options.

The squid ink cheese rice dog is made with squid ink batter, mozzarella cheese, and a beef hot dog. It was good, but the hot dog was saltier and didn't stick to the skewer as well, maybe because the hot dog comes out at the bottom to look like a squid. I wasn't a huge fan of the sweet mayo, but I didn't really need it. The volcano rice dog has a 6-inch spicy sausage (jalapeño and 3-cheese, pork and chicken mixed). It's much larger than the regular ones, especially with toppings like ramen, so it was bit difficult to eat but huge and filling, and I loved the kick it had without overpowering. I didn't need any dipping sauce, but the chipotle was good. My husband got the poutine hotdog (rice dog) and the cheddar cheese rice dog with spicy mayo. The (new?) poutine hotdog is a full cheese (whole mozzarella) and hot dog rice dog with potato topping and a side of beef gravy. The gravy was dark with a bit of melted cheese on top. Unexpectedly, the gravy was actually really good. The cheddar cheese rice dog is has a beef and chicken mixed hot dog wrapped in cheddar cheese. Not sure if it's available all the time since it's the first time I've seen it, but I spotted Korean fried chicken on the menu and I had to try theirs. We got a small sweet and spicy (yangnyum) which was listed as the most popular. It came with a few waffle fries for some reason, but no complaints. It was definitely on the sweet side and super saucy, probably better fresh/eaten there instead of for delivery to avoid it getting soggier over time. It was still pretty crispy and sticky. My husband enjoyed it, but it was a little too much for me (sauce and sweetness) and glad we got the small. It seems expensive for one, especially with extra toppings and sauces, but they're super filling and always a treat!

I'd wanted to come here for awhile but the Centrum re traffic and parking here makes me nuts. Ha! Anyways. I made sure I went on a weekday at an odd time, about 2pm. A sweet gal took my order, gave me the top sellers and I chose 2. A potato one and mozzarella one. 5 min wait. When they came out piping hot, the toppings begin and staff does it for you. I chose whatever was spicy and NOT mayo based. I had one dog on a stick to start, the mozzarella of course and towards the bottom was a small weenie but a good, quality beefy tasting one. I never eat hotdogs. Now I crave these all the time and want to try them all! The second one waited for me in the fridge until midnight and it kept well. The dogs were boxed up nicely and traveled well. My first time having one of these dogs was from a food truck north of LA. It was weird then too and that one was covered in sugar, ketchup, mustard. I guess I'll keep eating weird, it works for me!

It turns out, it's up the ramp on the left hand side. Once parked up here, there is a couple of glass doors and one of them takes you directly into the restaurant. Great to know for next time I'm in the area! As you walk down the stairs, you'll see it's renovated pretty nicely and not overly done. We grabbed a seat and were served with water pretty quickly. We had a look through the menu and they serve up more than just ramen. There's don, sukiyaki, code noodles as well as a bunch of sides. Since it was a pretty cold day, I knew I was going to settle on a ramen. I settled on the spicy tantan as I get that at many places. Service was good and the food came out pretty quickly. I started with the broth. It was alright. I got a second spoon with some chili oil and it that was OK too. I tried some of the ramen...it was OK. I don't know why but it reminded me of instant noodles so wasn't a huge fan of that especially at the price point. The egg was cooked well and the other toppings are decent as well. Portion size was standard but staff are super friendly and attentive. Even though the ramen I ordered was ok at best, it's nice to see more shops pop up around Ottawa. I'll definitely come back to try one of the dishes.

We got the Genmaicha - its for the whole table and you get the cutest pot and cups. We also got a huge thermos of hot water so it was pretty much non-stop. Got Gyoza to start. It was good. I tried the Spicy Tantan without the chili oil. Still got pretty strong kick. Noodles were good, ground pork was good (spicy), egg was fine, lettuce worked better than I expected, bamboo was good too - nice crunchy kick. Fungus was excellent. I wish there was a marinated ground pork that was not spicy. I could not tell if the broth was amazing as my lips were tingling already. Also tried the Hawanmushi - it takes 20-30minutes they said so glad we ordered early. Loved the egg custard but not a fan of the savory sauce. Loved the shrimp, crab, shitake toppings and wish there were more! Cool to try and I was okay with the price ($9) but as I didn't like the flavor combo - will not get again. Sadly they were out of deep fried brown sugar mochi. Dango was something I have always wanted to try - it tasted like bland mochi. I thought each color would taste different but they all pretty much taste the same. Texture is nice just like soft mochi. Loved the icing. Very reasonable price ($6). 2 skewers of 3 Dango each per order. Mint candies at the end are super delicious too!
