I went here last summer to get a mole on my torso removed that overstayed its welcome. Since I didn't have insurance at the time I paid out of pocket and it wasn't unreasonable. The staff and doctor were all pretty cool. I lost my little mole friend that day who apparently was celebrating its newly found freedom as it popped out of the doctor's hand and bounced onto the floor a few times in a perverted victory dance much to my horror (eeeeeeecccck). read more

Walked out of office.. treated like a moron. They sent 4 text messages and 2 emails making sure I would keep my appointment (SPAM). Asked me to sign their consent for distributing patient information, only they did not give me the details of the consent until I asked them for it. Asked for copies of insurance cards and kept informing me while I was there that they hadn't received them yet. Once they arrived I verified I had the right email (which they did not believe) and that all 3 documents were sent correctly. Evidently they were missing some pictures (most likely a software governor or similar on their end). So I asked what should I do.. 'try a different office?' their response, 'it's up to you'. So, I left. As a RN myself, I can tell you that they don't have a clue on how to interact with 'customers'! read more

I'm really not a huge review leaving person, but I genuinely feel the need to say this. I have red hair, which makes me way more likely to develop some sort of skin cancer in my lifetime compared to others with pale skin. I have plenty of freckles and have "a lot of moles" per my doctor during my visit at the Toms River office. My father, uncles, and my grandfather (mom's side) all have been diagnosed with multiple cases of malignant melanoma. So, I am approaching 30 and want to stay on top of this. My first ever full body exam lasted less than 1 minute, and I wasn't even able to ask a question before the doctor ran out the door (I have plenty). Granted, I pointed at a few spots that she looked at (or didn't tbh) and said they were just moles (hopefully they are), but I mean, come on. Really all she said to me was come back every year. I am not coming back to that office lol. I waited 3 months for that exam and 45 minutes in the waiting room for maybe 1 minute of her time. Yes they were busy, but schedule accordingly. read more

I was a new patient at this practice and I guarantee I will never return for another appointment or recommend them. I was incredibly dissatisfied with my experience. The NP took maybe 1 minute with me for my appointment. Told me that I may have skin cancer but there wasn't anything she could do about it given its location and would refer me to a different doctor. Following this extremely brief statement and explanation, she then told me that there would be a "small cosmetic fee" to remove 1 single skin tag. I agreed because I was still in shock to the news that I could have skin cancer. When I checked out of the office, I was charged $150 to remove the 1 single skin tag. That is absolutely disgraceful and should've been clarified before the removal. That is by no means considered a "small cosmetic fee". I have been going to this office for 15 years with no problems, and I have been using the same insurance that I use. However, I have stopped going. The last time I went was 2 years ago. The lady at the front desk was extremely rude and loud, stating that she never heard my insurance name, CIGNA. She persists in asking nonsense. I informed her that there is a phone number on the back of my insurance, just dial it. She repeatedly states that she does not know the type of insurance I have (CIGNA). Her actions seem intentional because I am the only Asian in the waiting area. CIGNA is a well-known name for medical insurance. I hope they can hire a decent receptionist. read more

I showed up 15 minutes early, to a closed office. Assuming perhaps, (since they do evening hours at this office) maybe they stepped out for dinner, I waited. Some big-haired "Karen" showed up, asking in the (why are you here voice) "can I HELP you?" She then proceeded to explain to me three or possibly four times that they had called everyone to cancel their appointments.... In the next 15 minutes, three other patients showed up expecting to be seen at 5:30. "Karen" hid, after the second showed up. read more

Every time I have been to Kuflik Dermatology it has been a lackluster experience at best. Whether it be struggling to reach the office and speak to a live assistant, or flat out not having prescriptions filled, they never fail to provide a negative experience. The lady in their scheduling department is so rude it's incredible. I called every day for 2 weeks trying to get an appointment after 4pm only to be told time and time again that they just got a new system and don't know how to schedule people that late. I just called again today and she got all sorts of snippy at me for simply asking if their scheduling night appointments yet. I didn't wanna waste her time or mine but how dare i question her ability to schedule appointments when she hasn't been able to for at least a month that's the first time I called. Oh and I'm not even a new patient. Absolutely ridiculous. Hope the dr's find out who they have working for them. read more

I had a 215 appointment. After checking in at the front desk I waited in my car until 300 when I went back in thinking something was wrong with my phone because they were taking so long. No, but you are next in line I was told. Fifteen minutes later I got a call to go in. I then had to wait for the P A another 20 minutes in the examining room. At that point I got dressed and walked out. Waiting an hour and 20 minutes for an exam is ridiculous. read more

I was a patient here for over a year and saw numerous doctors and PA assistants. Some of the doctors are very arrogant and have little bedside manner. I found the majority do not listen to what is being told to them. I felt like I was in an assembly line and my comfort during the procedures was not a concern for them. I gave them the benefit of the doubt and saw different doctors I. the practice, but I decided to go elsewhere. I have been going to Kuflik dermatology for years, and am now able to differentiate the 2 types of carcinoma that repeatedly occur to me. I mentioned to Dr. Avery only today that he has taught me to know what a squamous cell looks like from its early start. It's simple a tiny pustule, maybe pin size, that when you scrape the top off, there exists an underlying small crater. It's pretty exhilarating when your doc can teach you this. Yes, the office can be very busy but the staff are lovely and caring and Dr. Kuflik is the best; never short tempered and always pleasant and professional. Believe me, it's worth the wait. And you all will love Sam. It's important I have discovered to get a complete body check at least once a year; I get one every 6 months as I am prone to skin cancers. I had a lot of anxiety about going to the dermatologist. I first did my research and there were a lot of good reviews for the Kuflik Toms River office pertaining to the staff and especially because of Mark A. Mazak MS, PA-C who is part of that office. I must tell you, the staff was very good BUT the PA- Mark was amazing. He was very professional, calmed me down, took care of my problems and I couldn't be happier. Believe me, if you need to see a great dermatologist, this is the person you should request when you make an appointment.Gentle, knowledgeable, not in a rush, precise, explains things. I was in and out in about 1 hour. Some complain about the amount of wait time but to me it was worth the wait in order to be so well taken care of. read more

My second time here. The first I saw Julie Kuflik and she was nice, professional and helpful. The second visit was with Rachel, a PA. The checkup was fine but her attitude was not. She came into the room I was in and I smiled hello but she didn't smile back, just stared at me with dislike? First time meeting her so don't know what was happening with her. Today (Wednesday 7/28/2021) the Toms River office was running very late. My appointment was scheduled for 2:45 PM and I was seen by the PA at 3:30 PM. I complained to the nurse and to the office manager. Both were trying to "white wash" the situation while not addressing the real issue. I suspect that Dr. Avery instructed the front office to schedule too many appointments, cutting the normal PA slot to a very unrealistic period, causing a compounded long delay for all waiting patients. The front room was full of people waiting for their appointment. I complained to the office manager and asked her how she would feel if all patients were 45 minutes late. She told me she wouldn't like it. I asked that in the future they have the decency and call the patients ahead of time letting them know the office is running late. read more

I had originally gone to this practice in 2016 when I thought I might have a BCC. The PA took the time to thoroughly review my body and found one. Dr. Avery Kuflik is an excellent surgeon who removed it so expertly that there is no visible scar. So why the 1-star rating? Attention to patients, explaining things to them, and courses of treatment have sharply declined. This may have to do with the retirement of the founder, Dr. Emanuel Kuflik. I went to the practice in 2022 because of two medical skin problems. The first PA totally muffed it. The second one may have gotten it correct but failed to explain it at all. Each appointment took about 4 minutes, not enough time to explain anything. Further, the answering service will not forward a call to a doctor; I had an allergic reaction to an antibiotic and had to go to urgent care instead. Scheduling refuses to allow patients to see a physician; I was told "the children" (Drs. Avery and his sister) only do surgery and refuse to see patients. I made an appointment with a different practice, was seen in two days by a dermatologist-physician who explained everything, answered everything, was cordial, and didn't make me feel like an annoyance. This is one patient who is changing doctors permanently. read more

New to area and went for yearly skin check. Doctor Assistant or nurse practitioner (not sure what they are called), only looked at skin that was not covered by clothing. For the money I was charged, I was ripped off. I said to the woman, shouldn't you look at my moles? Only then did she look. This was not even a 'fair' yearly body skin check. Never again. This person was not trained to do a thorough check. I do not recommend this place. read more

I kept the appt for my daughter even though it was the day of my sister's funeral. I would be losing my insurance in a couple of days and needed this appt. It was the Howell/lakewood office. The secretary was so mean and had me in tears. I usually tolerate the dismissiveness of the Dr's because you can get in and out. Not this day. She specifically made me wait. After the appt was over she wouldn't let my 17 yr old daughter check her self out.( I was trying to avoid a confrontation) She was being nasty on purpose even though I told her what a difficult day this was. First of all the doctor, physician's assistant, and staff are all very nice! BUT... they have TROUBLE WITH SCHEDULING. I was told to come back for stich removal on a day I work. I explained I was only available during my lunch hour, (my job is literally 8 mins from their office) but I could come any time 2 days later as I had off. No, the PA said, I could come in at my lunch and would be in and out about 10 mins. Well I went there and the waiting room was completely full. I checked in and they were calling other patients every 2-3 mins. After 15 mins I began to get a little concerned. At 25 mins I went up and explained I only had 10 mins left (I needed time to drive to work). When they said they didn't have a room for me, I said I would go to my primary doctor for the stich removal in the evening (they're open til 7). As soon as I said that suddenly I was being escorted to a room. Stiches out, but minor infection and they needed to schedule a "wound check". I explained I did not have any more time to wait for the scheduler, (all the patients called prior to me were lined up waiting to make appointments.) Dr. asked another clerk to handle. Once he walked away, she asked me to wait in the waiting room. I told them I would call for another appointment and left. I made it back to me desk with 1 min to spare. Their office moves ALOT of people in and out, but, Unfortunately, they seem to not be able to schedule well. I don't mind waiting and have done so quietly at other appointments when I had allotted more than an hour here, but it is inconsiderate to force me to agree to a date, tell me it would take 10 mins. and then make me to wait more than double that time. 20- 30 mins isn't an issue for retirees, but if I genuinely TOLD you I only had my lunch hour, I should have been scheduled at a more appropriate time. The office needs an better scheduling plan. Trying to move 10 or more people in and out every 15 mins doesn't make logistical sense. read more

I have been going to the Drs Kuflik since high school, first with the father and then son. It's an extremely professional practice, which has grown impressively - I was in the Toms River office this past week and forgot how large it is - and clearly Dr. Avery and team are on top of their game. Dermatology can often be a "try this and see" approach but I find that the staff here work hard and spend the time to make a solid diagnosis. Living in both NYC and North NJ, I had tried other derm offices over the years but found frustrating wait times and results. Happy to travel 1.5 hours to Kuflik Dermatology. I had went to this office back in 2018 for a rash. When I went there I was told it was a contact dermatitis. Ok so I pd my co pay and came home. I called the office and because it was getting horribly worse and I did let them know I was not paying double the co pay for the same issue. So come to find out that I in fact got scabies!!! I lost my mind because I was I. The room less than 5 minutes the first time! And then to find out they misdiagnosed me the second time. I tried to speak to the office manager and the office as a whole is just unprofessional!!! I do not recommend this office unless you are ok with the unprofessional staff!!! read more

Mistakes happen no problem but the rudeness of the receptionist was disgusting. She told me I missed my appointment and I'd need to reschedule. I'll have to move because she had a line. Dr. Avery Kuflik met with me regarding Mohs Surgery. He NEVER looked at my face where the Cancer was, he just read off the pathology report. He did not answer one of my questions. His answers were "well if I do it or a plastic surgeon does it you will have a scar". How do you know, you didn't even look at my face! I had to schedule surgery with another Dermatologist not part of this practice. Save yourself some time and go to someone else. Oh and I keep getting a bill for $50 for this so called consultation. They made an error on my daughters apt time.. basically called me a liar on the phone when I told them. We are switching derms ASAP. A doctor needs a good office staff. In this day and age bad experiences with the front line, the office staff, will force a customer to search out a new doctor. My family and I , 14 in total, have been patients of this practice for many years. We've had our ups and downs with the staff and doctors but dismissed it as a bad day and moved on. Well that changed today. I recently tried to schedule an appointment for my son who seemed to develop a bad rash. Probably nothing, but would like to get him checked out as soon as possible. I called to make an appointment, and was put on hold for 10 minutes the first time and 5 the second time. On the third attempt I was introduced to a very irritated person who firmly stated my son wasn't there in the last six months, and no way could anyone in your vast organization see him for at least three weeks because of that. Well, to quote a old saying, "That was the straw that broke the camels back." I decided that's enough. Sorry, but no doctor is good enough to cover for a terrible office staff. Understanding, helpfulness, and politeness in this harsh world has to be the norm, not the exception. I like to have s long lasting relationship with a doctor but when the office staff feel the are greater that the patient something has to give. Was very pleased with the care at Kuflik Dermatology, the staff was very pleasant. The doctor, PA and nurses all tok time to explain everything. I had a procedure and was told I shouldn't feel a thing and I didn't. I was done much quicker than expected. Would highly recommend this group read more
