DANGEROUS PROVIDER WARNING: April Shintani Kua, APRN
Hawaii License #3987 | Former name: April Ann Beatty
This woman has a multi-state disciplinary history, including license revocations in Ohio and North Carolina, and a 2-year suspension in Hawaii for failing to disclose her history of unethical behavior. Verify this for yourself at nursys.com by searching "April Kua RN Hawaii." (I wish I'd known how to search for this in advance--as nothing about it comes up online, and she does not disclose her former name or concerning history on her site or bio.)
I came to her stable and thriving, needing simple help with a medication change for international travel. Instead, she delivered a cold, detached assessment that ignored my medical history and misdiagnosed me within 50 minutes over telehealth.
She prescribed medication contraindicated for my seizure history (which she never asked about). When it nearly gave me a seizure and I lost an entire day to severe side effects and trauma flashbacks, she told me I was "imagining" it and instructed me to keep taking the pills. (So dangerous--and if I hadn't known better, who knows what could have happened.)
She falsified my chart with events that never occurred in our session, including claiming I "can't hold down a job." (Verifiably false, as I've run a thriving business for over a decade.) She showed zero compassion, zero medical competence, and zero concern for my safety even when I reported life-threatening symptoms.
If I'd been more vulnerable--as I was in the past, before receiving a correct ADHD diagnosis and treatment from a licensed psychiatric professional--this could have ended very badly. I leave this review out of concern for other Tricare beneficiaries and vulnerable veterans, who are already at elevated risk of harm. Our military service members deserve better than this cold, negligent standard of "care."
I truly believe this provider is a danger to patients. She dismissed documented medical history from far more experienced and educated professionals and ignored clear contraindications that could have had lethal consequences.
If you have literally ANY other option--take it.
RESPONSE TO PROVIDER: I provided you with an evaluation from a psych physician with 20 years of experience assessing ADHD, not a PCP. This was emailed to you before the tele-health visit. I'm not sure why you're unable to admit this or process factual information, but facts don't seem to be your strong suit. I believe you were raised in Texas, correct? It's hard to find accurate information as you've changed your identity so many times and have rarely held down a job for more than 6 months. You were also testifying as an APRN in Alaska, but I couldn't find your license number there. Were you practicing without a license there? That seems worrisome. In any event, as a respectful outsider living on Maui for over a decade, I just know I would never pretend to be something I'm not. I have too much respect for my native neighbors and what is pono to do so. I am a respectful visitor here. And thank you for your response. You would not respond via email, but I suppose public feedback warrants a moment of your time? read more
