At Hilo Natural, I've found a practitioner with both a breadth and depth of experience in treating the whole human. Doc Sarah combines comprehensive lab work, lifestyle factors, supplements, and has been able to help me make progress with some thyroid and lab issues (and also more physio-related issues foot and shoulder pain) with a combination of nutrient support, medication, and interventions like prolon therapy (really helpful for chronic plantar fasciitis.) Also, she's really, really dang smart - and a compassionate guide thru what has been a difficult entry into my 40s. The office is run as a tight ship - which I realize is unusual for an area in which 'business hours' are often a loose approximation and the general standard of responsiveness and timeliness is WELL below average. Basically, you get San Francisco Bay Area level care, follow-up, and appointment management here - so if you are prone to the generally lackadaisical island approach to things, this may not be a fit. For those accustomed to a 'laid back approach' (read: not respectful of time and about a decade behind in innovation) - this place will come as a bit of a jolt. As someone who values innovation, results, responsiveness- and respects my own time and that of other people - this clinic is perfect as both my go-to for integrative treatment and as my PC doc. It opened me up to so much more allergies than I had to begin with! I felt she spent hardly any time with me, didn't read my pulses, put needles in, left then didn't come back for 20-25 mins when she had me turn over and put more needles in, then left again, with no questions of follow-up how I was doing, etc. She did do some short moxibustion treatment for 6 minutes at the end of the treatment. I think she can be a skilled acupuncturist, but for myself, I would prefer to have my practitioners be people who express more care and are more present with the treatment. If she was as consistent in her care for the other treatments as she was for the first one, I would leave a 5-star review. The last treatment was so deficient, that I left feeling pretty bad. I would rather spend my money on practitioners who sincerely work with more care about their patients.
