I met Kealoha at our local contrast therapy (sauna/cold plunge) space in Asheville. I had been spending the last 3 months trying every holistic approach possible to deal with an Ulnar Nerve entrapment to avoid what my orthopedic doctor told me would likely be an inevitable surgery. My routine for the first 6 weeks or so consisted of PT 2x per week, acupuncture every week, lots of stretching, ice/heat at home, bracing, and several massages. I even took a week off work just to rest. Throughout that time I experienced little to no improvement in my symptoms (pain, numbness, weakness, inflammation). I scheduled a surgery date but continued with everything I had been doing while adding even more to my routine. Next I decided to focus on inflammation. I cut out alcohol, focused on a strict plant based anti-inflammatory diet, and started practicing contrast therapy 2-3x per week. Over the course of next month I saw quite rapid improvement, enough so that I pushed back my surgery date. Unfortunately, that improvement plateaued and I even declined a little bit. I then started seeing a chiropractor. When I say I tried everything, I really believed I had, but I was still open to ideas. I met Kealoha on one of my regular trips to the sauna. She overheard me speaking to a woman about my chronic nerve issue and thankfully chimed in with her wisdom on the subject. She believed the entrapment was likely muscular which was what I had started to suspect myself. I asked if she thought she could help me and she confidently said she could. With one day left in North Carolina, she agreed to meet me after work the next night. She managed to borrow a car and a massage table at the last minute and came to me with a kind heart and a determination to help me heal. I had read some of her patient testimonials and was a little bit nervous about the level of intensity and the pain/discomfort I may feel in my session but, again, I had been keeping an open mind and heart and I understand that pain is an essential part of healing. Plus all of the reviews I read were glowing dedications to her healing work so I knew I had to give it a try. While the experience did involve quite a bit of pain, I felt safe, comforted, and cared for by Kealoha. I fully trusted her and she guided me through the discomfort, reminding me to breathe and speaking gently to me throughout. I have never experienced a hands on healer who had such a level of wisdom/knowledge of the body and such an obvious sense of intuition and connectedness. She pointed out problem spots I hadn't even told her about and found problem spots I didn't even know existed. I truly believe she did more for me in an hour than a lot of the other practitioners I had seen did for me collectively. My session with Kealoha put me back on the road to natural healing. The only disappointing part is that I will not be able to see her again, at least not any time soon. I believe another session or two with her would potentially get me to a very confident point in my recovery. And I would 100% see her on a regular basis for maintenance and anything else I was struggling with if she was local. I have a lot of chronic pain, tension, and muscular degeneration from past injuries and stress. I would trust her with all of it. Kealoha is one of the greatest massage therapists I've ever known. I suffer from a lot deep muscle trauma and degenerative lumbar discs so my body is always compensating for that binding up my back, glute and hip muscles. This takes work and she is anything, but lazy when it comes to working out the years of trauma and damage. She is very, very strong, so you should not be afraid to be specific in your level of pressure. It's like the difference between hot and Thai hot! There's firm and then there's Kealoha firm! She herself is a beautiful person and has a lovely sense of humor, and her room is breezy and comfortable. Not all therapists get the music right but hers is great and she plays it at a perfect level. She seems to take pleasure in knowing when the muscle finally releases and is very intuitive.
