I really did not want to write this review because she has great ratings, but since reviews help others I feel like I have to. I have been trying to get a first appointment set up for my husband and me for 10 weeks. She first had a 6 week lead time, which was fine, because it seemed like she was in demand. But then that week she got sick and had to reschedule. The rescheduling has been suuuuch an effort - she has rescheduled something like 4 (5?) times for different reasons - and they have all been at the last minute. The final straw was that she was going to do the look book for my husband late one evening (and do the shopping a couple days later) but then she suggested doing the look book on the same day because the look book would only take 30 minutes after the shopping, and it would be better to do it when he had his old+new clothes. The day of the appointment, she texted and again suggested changing the date to take advantage of Nordstrom's anniversary sale in July. It was annoying to change again but it also made sense, so we agreed to move our appointment to today. Here we are today, and she just told us she only scheduled time for the shopping and not the look book. She didn't block off enough time, and she never told us, but she is now giving us times for when she could do it (which don't work for us). It has just been such a hassle and has taken the fun out of what is supposed to be a fun and 'easy' experience. I may have been an unfortunate anomaly, but my general take is that her organizational and time management skills need improvement, and she does not prioritize clients (particularly first time clients) that have been inconvenienced. We gave her so many chances to rectify a poor first impression, but I did not feel like she was a pro, like others have mentioned. If you have a lot of flexibility in your schedule then this may be fine for you, but we set aside several blocks of time in our schedule only to to have her reschedule. You might ask, why did I keep rescheduling, because I am sympathetic and unfortunately, I fell for all of her cancelation "stories." I should have known better when I kept having to confirm my appointment with her and then she would get back to me the morning of with the cancelation "story." If she was actually serious about the appointment, she would have confirmed the appointment with me, not vice versa. I was really appalled at her lack of care of another person's schedule...each time I got canceled on was a vacation day I wasted for work because she canceled on me the day of, which made it too late for me to cancel my work PTO. I honestly don't know why she runs this business if she is not actually interested in meeting with the people. She never even called me, not even once to discuss what I was looking for and to get to know me better. That should have been a red flag for me, but I didn't know as this was my first time hiring a stylist. Since she gave me my money back and then some, I wasn't going to write a review but once I found out that she has done this to others, I had no choice but to let others know. My husband surprised me by connecting me with Katie as a Mother's Day gift this year. I've always been someone with very limited style sense and no interest in fashion or shopping. I do all my shopping online from the same 5-7 brands and wear a basic rotation of dark solids - black, navy, gray, and the occasional stripes or dots. As a working professional and mother of a toddler and infant, I began spending even less time on clothes and got to that point where i lost any excitement about wearing clothes and began hating my wardrobe. Katie was like a breath of fresh air that made me excited to wear something other than sweat pants again. We had a three step process that began with Katie coming over and cleaning out my closet (and taking all the discarded items and donating them for me). She's a complete professional who is friendly but also straight to the point and doesn't waste time. I was a little nervous entering the store due to my fashion insecurities and hatred of physical shopping. But Katie made the experience so enjoyable me. I told her the brands and stores I typically shop at and she kept all of the items within the same price range. I didn't have to worry about looking at price tags while in the fitting room because I knew she wasn't giving me $500 blouses or $1000 dresses. She can certainly cater to a more high end client but she's extremely adept at a more regular budget conscious client as well. The third step was the look book. Katie came over once last time and spent a couple hours pairing new and old clothing together to show me a variety of ways to put outfits together and also organized them by occasion (casual, work, dressy). The look book was sent just a few days later and it's a super quick reference guide for me that is very versatile. Katie communicates promptly via text, is super easy to work with, and also provides online links and suggestions for specific outfit help - she helped pick outfits for my entire family for my daughter's first birthday celebration and they were perfect. The whole process was enjoyable, low pressure, and surprisingly fun. And the end result is a closet full of clothes I'm excited to wear, and a much more confident me. I bought boxes full of clothes from online retailers only to have the quality and fit be all wrong. Then I'd get busy being a new mom and forget to send the clothes back in time. Finally, I resorted to wearing the same few outfits over and over. Then, I emailed Katie. She responded the same day and sent me a style assessment to complete. During the process she took inventory of all items and documented it for tax purposes. She then hauled the bags to Goodwill so I didn't have to do it. First, let me say that a 5-star review from me is extremely rare; and, a 4-star one shouldn't be viewed as a negative. In fact, as it is summarized: Yay! I'm a fan. (If 4.5 were available, I'd probably notch it up.) I've never used a styling consultant before, yet at 43 years old I've long felt that I could use a helping hand in selection and confidence. Katie was just that! Currently residing overseas, my location has little available in the realm of 'style', let alone quality or value when there is quality. Thus, on a recent trip to Chicago, I decided to treat myself, which yes... was a pricey one (not her service, but all the wonderful clothes I bought); yet I am confident it will work out well. I basically wanted to start over with my wardrobe, and this was a huge step. I emailed two highly-rated Chicago stylists (Katie being one), and Katie responded nearly immediately, while the other has yet to respond at all - 3 weeks later and a week after my day with Katie. Being remote, I wasn't sure if she could do a closet clean-out, but using a private Facebook photo album, Katie commented on all items she would say to "toss". While some I might disagree with (likely more emotional attachment!), I found it valuable because a lot of the "toss" items I had already been feeling iffy about anyway. We booked for a Monday at noon, and she was early, already pulling loads of things to try on at Nordstrom Rack. I was amazed at the number of items and quality (or, so I hope!). She kept true to "me" in that nothing was too trendy and as a single professional woman who doesn't like a lot of 'fuss', she kept the selections in line. She graciously stayed longer (you'd be amazed at how fast 3 hours goes!), even helping me with shoes (and what a fab several pairs I found!) and a few jewelry items. Having never used a stylist before, I didn't know what to expect. On reflection, I could have done a little more research on questions to ensure I ask to make the most of the time; also, I now know to ask, "What is a typical budget - a range - you see your clients spending?" I was a bit sticker shocked, but it was only because *everything* she pulled for me to try on fit *extremely* well. Overall, I think Katie offers a great service. And, what's more, she makes herself available for the random text to get her feedback on an outfit or item. She's well worth having at least a chat with and I can imagine if I were local that an official closet clean-out and a lookbook would be the icing on the cake. My husband gifted me the whole package to work with Katie. My initial reaction was a little intimidated and embarrassed because: 1. I have no clue about fashion or how to put outfits together. 2. I have two young kids and my closet hadn't really been updated since the first was born. 3. I walk into a store and don't even know where to start. Making the appointment with Katie was super easy. Horrible. PLEASE, PLEASE do not use. Details below. Summary: 3 last min cancellations on bookings scheduled well in advance, NO/very unprofessional communication throughout, obvious dishonesty, can't follow directions and horribly disorganized. Never should have let it get to the third booking, but as a fellow business owner I wanted to give another entrepreneur benefit of doubt. I have never, ever been so dismayed and frankly embarrassed I gave her so many chances. Read on for details or for a very entertaining story. SET UP: *Pre-paid for 6 hr pkg and scheduled 8 wks to visit *Emailed fashion survey to Katie & attempted to confirm appt (2 wks to appt). *NO response. *4 days to appt, my husband emailed Katie our address *NO RESPONSE. 48 hours before the scheduled meeting time: "Double booked with a jewelry show for my side business, can we reschedule?" sent via email. Admitted receiving my fashion survey so must have received the email 2 wks ago Ok....things come up... *NO follow-up call. Nothing to discuss double booking us. *Rescheduled 5 weeks later *She asks for the fashion survey again (via email). We re-send. She confirms again she received it first time but "isn't sure where she put it" *3 days to appointment haven't heard anything. I emailed her to confirm. NO RESPONSE until less than 12 hours notice. "Sorry I've been horribly sick all day, can we please reschedule?" All communication via email. Ok....its Feb. People get sick. 1 more shot. Now I am really frustrated because its too late to cancel childcare or schedule patients for my business. *NO follow-up call. NOTHING to discuss being sick. No offer of discount, additional services, etc for 2 last minute cancellations *Rescheduled 2 weeks later *She asks for survey a 3rd time (via email). I ask why. She "remembers getting it, but can't find it" *3 days prior, haven't heard from her. Figure I should check in. Send her an email *She waits 2 days, but confirms (Late) the night before she will be there *Scheduled for 9:30 am in Milwaukee. She lives in Chicago. I get a text a 8:34 am that her car broke down just north of Waukegan about "10 minutes ago" and requesting I check my email for details EMAIL SUMMARY: "I am so, so sorry. My car broke down & I have no idea what is wrong with it. I am currently walking to a local gas station to call Triple A. I am hoping its a quick fix and I can still make it, although probably late. I will keep you posted. I am sorry again, I truly planned on being there today." -Katie. A) That's way too late to make it to my house by our scheduled time. B) Obviously has a cell phone to call Triple A.....let alone calling me instead of handling everything electronically. C) Email sounds like she is already clearly not coming......but ok....lets see what she responds. I sent her a text: "sorry to hear that. Please update me on your progress." *I expect SOME communication. Thankfully I met my mom and shopped anyway. She's had our $ for 15 weeks! NO CALL. NO TEXT. NO EMAIL. NOTHING. I call her at 6:30 pm (10 hours later). Leave voicemail requesting call back. SHE CALLS AT 8:30 PM: "Sorry, I was just finishing at a clients.[I LIVE IN MILWAUKEE. OUR APPT: 9:30am. I PAID FOR 6 HOURS. THAT MEANS YOU WOULDN'T BE DONE HERE UNTIL 5:30....ASSUMING YOU WERE ON TIME. AT THAT TIME OF NIGHT, EVEN IF YOU LEFT IMMEDIATELY......ITS 3 HOURS BACK INTO CHICAGO. YOU SHOULDN'T HAVE PLANNED ON BEING HOME UNTIL 9:30. BUT YET YOU WERE AT A CLIENT BEGINNING AT 6:30?????????]. Take deep breath here. Conversation continues....Summary: "I'd really like to still do business with you. I am very sorry." I voice my concerns and re-hash my experience. Her answer to lack of communication that day: "I was really busy at the mechanic, was on the phone with my mom and I was flustered by the break down. I wasn't in the right mindset to call."....THAT WAS 10 HOURS AGO. I didn't even point out that she was coming back from a client while she would have still been returning from our appt.... She gave NO offer of discount, etc. Leaving the conversation she was to send me a list of available Wednesdays in case I was to reschedule and her response to the discount I requested. Her email back to me consisted of 1 available Thursday and no mention of discounts. Only happy ending to this story is that I have successfully gotten our $$ back...without compensation for 3 extra childcare days and 3 missed days of work b/c of late notice cancellations; without interest despite our $$ held for 4.5 months. I highly recommend working with Katie! My husband and I recently moved to Chicago, and we were looking to up our work outfits while trying not to overbuy. So I reached out to Katie, and she was so responsive, helpful and accommodating. She recommended a plan for us, and then went shopping with me, which was awesome! I get anxious when I have to shop, so instead I got to sit and relax while she did it all for me. I love the pieces she recommended for me in my lookbook, and I refer to my lookbook everyday. Katie was on time for our second appointment after a last minute reschedule of our first scheduled meet. I am busy, we're all busy so i blocked out a full day and had scheduled for the full 8 hour package, well i found out when she showed up she over booked so we would have to schedule annother date. I have some decent clothes, I though I was really clear that I wanted help purging items from my wardrobe that weren't ideal for my body type- we'll that didn't happen (and tho I spent good money I know their are pieces that just don't work). Then she took me to 2 boutiques and had me try on everything in the store- I got a bunch of stuff because I thought the process was going somewhere but it was all day to day stuff I did NOT need. Then she insisted I needed jeans, which I said I had plenty of and she should have noticed when she was in my closet. She talked me into 3 expensive jeans I had nearly identical pairs at home. Katie paid absolutely no attention to what I had, what I needed to dress for nor did she respect my time. And heres the real kicker, i would have returned 80% of the stuff she talked me into but the both stores (im guessing she gets a kick back) had return for store credit only. What a total waste of time and money. I still had to find time and go out and shop for the events I needed outfits for. Katie seems like a nice person and was punctual when she's not canceling. Sadly she has no listening skills, is not observant and only really seems to understand how to dress her small demographic. read more

I don't post frequently on Yelp, but I felt compelled to write a review about KS Consulting after reading some of the posts on here. In the spirit of full disclosure, no one requested that I write this review--I simply want to share the wonderful experience I had working with Katie. I recently consulted with her because I wanted to revamp my look. All our interactions were incredibly professional and Katie knew exactly what I was going for. She was on time to all our appointments and she responded promptly to my emails. If she anticipated a delay in responding to my messages, she would let me know and stayed true to her word. I was blown away by how efficiently she cleared out my closet--in 20 min she accomplished what I had been avoiding for nearly two years. She also reviewed my Pinterest board and added a ton of options in anticipation of our shopping trip. She is very organized and diligently kept track of the items on our shopping list. During our shopping excursion, Katie picked out my clothes and it was amazing how she always picked out the right size for me despite sizing variations among brands. What we accomplished in a couple of hours would have taken me half a day, seriously. She has an eye for style and knows how to flatter your figure. I should also add that we went shopping at large retailers where she clearly wasn't getting any kickbacks--she also kept my budget in mind the entire time. Our interactions didn't end there because she graciously responded to all my emails asking for advice on additional clothing and accessories I was thinking of buying. She also took care of selling all the clothes I got rid of, and she sent me receipts for all the transactions with consignment shops. No one is swindling anyone here, and I should add that I got rid of some very expensive items that simply didn't match the style I was going for. In any case, I would not hesitate to recommend Katie. I intend to hire her again to help me shop for next season's clothes. I love my new wardrobe and I will gladly answer any questions you have about her awesome service! read more

I have hired Katie to help me twice, three years apart and given her services as gifts as well. She never disappoints. She comes with everything she needs to get the job done and really listens to what I am trying to accomplish. She is great at purging a closet. Katie is sensitive to attachments but smart about helping you part with stuff that is out of style or unflattering. I have never disagreed with her choice except once and months later it became obvious that she was right. The dress sat in my closet unworned, just as she predicted. Shopping with Katie is a treat. She does all the work for one thing, has a great eye, knows some great stores (kudos to Sara Jane) and really watches your dollars. I have loved the wardrobe she built for me when I was working and since I retired. Best of all, Katie makes you feel good about your body and the clothes you wear. She can work beautifully with women in any size and shape, and any age. I would recommend her totally. As a 6'5" tall man, I have trouble buying casual clothes that fit, and had tended to default to the same things over and over. Katie has helped me re-imagine my wardrobe in a way that I could not have accomplished on my own. She is extremely personable and effective in her approach. In three sessions, Katie has cleaned out my closet of items that are no longer suitable, helped me shop for new pieces to combine with what I already had, and put together a look-book that I can refer to quickly when I need to. The experience has opened my eyes to new color and style combinations that I would not have thought of trying. I now have a far better sense of my personal style, of where I can push the envelope, and how to mix colors and layers. As a result, getting dressed and looking stylish now seems so much easier, and with a little more practice will become almost effortless.
