Let me begin by saying, I was more or less clueless about fashion before meeting Jennifer. I knew that I needed professional help-that's step 1: admitting you have a problem. Step 2 is finding competent help for that problem. After some online searches for Chicago based stylist, I found Jennifer. Her perfect google review definitely caught my attention. I started reading her entire website and watching all of her videos--they were fantastic. I knew I needed to find out more, so I contacted her and set a consult. It was invaluable. We talked about fashion needs, styles, budget, the process and she even pointed out some things I was wearing which really made me think about how I present myself. In short, the consult was a turning point for me. The next step was a closet edit which I scheduled several weeks later. Full disclosure, on her videos she states there are three types of men: those with missing core pieces, that more or less hoard and those that have most things in the wrong size. As a lifelong overachiever in most things, I was pleased to find out I was a combination of all three! I had a closet full of things, many of which were 20+ years old. I literally had 42 dress shirts--almost all of which were too big. After she quickly purged anything that was worn, the wrong color for my skin tone or horribly out of date, I tried on almost everything else (besides the aforementioned shirts, dozens of pairs of pants, several suits and some sweaters). The pile of clothes on my floor that didn't make the cut was roughly half my height--truthfully, it was exactly what I needed--some real "medicine" and a frank answer on what looked good on me and what didn't. I truly appreciate her candor and efficiency, not to mention her sense of humor. I now had plenty of room in my closet to fill with clothes not from the 90s. Or the 2000s. Or the 2010s. The process took several hours based on the amount of clothes I had. Afterwards, we sat down and reviewed what I had that was good and outlined core pieces to purchase next. Jennifer was definitely going to have some challenge finding clothes that fit me due to height and body shape issues, so she was earning her fees for sure. We set a date several weeks later to go shopping. This is where the real fun starts, and I am not kidding about this. Jennifer arrived a few hours before I did so when I showed up at noon she had a private stylist fitting room packed to the hilt with shirts, pants, suits, sweaters and other accessories. I was pretty impressed she pulled it all together that quickly. Honestly, I can't describe how much fun I had. I've never done something like this and the time I spent with her that day increased my knowledge of fashion tenfold at a minimum. I learned what looks good on me and how a suit, pants or shirt should REALLY fit. This may sound silly, but I just didn't know what I didn't know because I had never learned these things. We picked out a ton of gorgeous clothes that fit my style and best of all, it was almost all in the same store. The downselect of what fit me versus what I really needed left me with my new wardrobe. Shoes were tough based on my size, but we found a couple pairs and ordered another. Additionally, there were a few items that were too large in the store that we ordered for later delivery. Lastly, I needed several new items (and a few carryovers from my closet) to be tailored. She was able to work with the tailor giving clear instructions on what she wanted done--this was honestly a lifesaver because I don't speak "tailor" and likely would have crashed the jet giving him instructions--she literally was by my side for that as well. We did need to go to one other store after all of this to find some jeans, which we did and that ended the day. I was tired but thrilled at what I had picked out. When I got home I eagerly put away all my new things, which was fun in and of itself. I now had a great foundation of fashion to compliment the other parts of my life. I have been wearing the new clothes and again, this may sound silly, but I just feel even more confident in them--this was definitely a hole in my game and now it's a strength. I am looking forward to working with Jennifer again on a Spring/Summer season shopping day for shorts, short sleeve shirts and anything else I missed the last time. She is also making me a "Look Book" so I can have some good ideas on what goes together in case of an impromptu event. I can't say enough good things about Jennifer and truly wished I would have met her sooner so this part of my life was sorted, but as my Krav Maga instructor says, "We are starting now. Join us." This is my first time writing a Yelp review, so that alone should tell you about my experience! Jennifer is incredibly knowledgeable, and clearly enjoys helping her clients. I'm about as clueless as possible about clothing/fashion, but Jennifer showed the right amount of patience in teaching me what styles, colors, and fit would work best for me. The process itself was very efficient (there was a rack of clothes waiting in the changing room), and while I needed my extra coffee, it paid off with having a new wardrobe that I feel very comfortable with. It's worth pointing out: even though sharp dressed men are Jennifer's core business, she's great with women and can help them too, so long as she has time in her schedule to do so. Jennifer has been my brother's personal shopper since he moved to Chicago five years ago. I had always heard how great she was - but not just from my brother - from my mother, too. A few times a year when my mom visits my brother, she has a day with Jennifer to get new clothes for the upcoming season, usually at Nordstrom. When we were in town last week, my sister and I got our very own Jennifer day. We met her at Nordstrom and immediately made our way through the best sections. Jennifer had already pulled some picks based on our sizes and what we were shopping for (an Oscar party). She had secured a large dressing room in the Ted Baker area, and had a rack just outside it for our rejects. She also had a Nordstrom employee helping us by checking to see if they had other sizes, etc. Especially if you're on a limited time schedule, this is a game changer. My fiancée set me up with Jennifer because she knew I would never do something like this on my own. I didn't grow up paying much for clothes and a level of guilt surrounding spending money on myself has plagued me all my life. With all this, the thought of a personal stylist was kind of terrifying. Jennifer did a fantastic job of meeting me where I was at. As we were initially talking, she was able to recognize how my personal life story played into my feelings about clothing and worked with me instead of insisting I change. The first session was going through my clothes. She was honest about what looked good/fit well and what could use more work. We live in a small apartment, so making space by getting rid of some clothes that weren't flattering was quite helpful. It also just feels good to get some of the clutter out of your life. Next, we decided to do the personal shopping. Knowing that I was trying to look good but not spend too much money, Jennifer set up shop at Nordstrom Rack. We also agreed to a budget ahead of time, and all she asked of me was that I not look at price tags. It seriously felt like being on a TV show. Jennifer had racks of clothes already set up for me in a changing room. I would throw something on, we'd evaluate, and then right as I take those clothes off another set were being handed to me. It was insanely efficient and all the clothes she picked out were fantastic. I have a smaller body type, so finding clothing that really fits well can sometimes be challenging. Even so, Jennifer crushed it. She helped me find great-fitting pieces that I would naturally have gravitated toward as well as created some outfits that I never would've tried without her help. This review is way past due, but I see the results of this service everyday. I met with Jennifer in June and immediately felt comfortable with my decision. She put so much effort into trying to give me what I wanted, while making it seem effortless. First, Jennifer met me for a consultation and was prepared for anything I wanted to ask. She is very knowledgable about what she can offer and what differs her from her competitors. I threw out my desires and she threw some questions back at me. Well this review is LONG overdue (Jennifer, I apologize) but there is not enough I can say about the experience with Jennifer. I found her two years ago and was reluctant to try her out, or any other personal shopper, because I was worried that she couldn't really find good outfits for a man in his mid 40's. Boy was I wrong! I purchased a gift certificate for a style/image consultation, and an hour of personal shopping from A Sharp Dressed Man as a Christmas gift for my son who is a college student. Prior to the consultation, Jennifer asked if we had a store preference for the personal shopping, and we went with her suggestion of Nordstorm Rack. The consultation included Jennifer taking his measurements, and talking to him about his current wardrobe, his preferences and other topics related to his style, which is a tee shirt or sweater with jeans and athletic shoes. Jennifer helped me to change not only my wardrobe, but my life along with it. If you're considering whether or not a personal shopper or style consultation is worth the time and expense, I will respond by saying the opportunity cost of NOT hiring Jennifer is far greater. Prior to updating my clothing to a proper fit and modern style, I can only imagine the number of experiences I missed and time I had wasted. In the past... - I had spent hours in stores searching for clothes that I thought looked right, only to realize later that they didn't, or worse, NOT realizing they didn't. I needed an upgrade and have been thinking about how to make this happen for quite a while when I received a business oriented "Groupon" like coupon. After a call to setup our appointment Jennifer met me at a coffee shop nearby to do an initial consultation to discuss my goals, her methods and take measurements etc. We agreed upon a date to meet at local shops to hammer out a new wardrobe collection that I needed. When I arrived at the store to meet Jennifer she had many items already picked out between the two stores that she had picked out to visit and she made certain that any item that was missed at one location was covered at the next. During my experience with Jennifer It was clear that work method was very savvy, quick thinking and on point. It was obvious to me that she had listened to my taste preferences and knew how to blend those with her own taste and knowledge to find what I was looking for. I found Jennifer's service to be in a word, awesome. We had a lot of ground to cover and she was very expedient and attentive throughout. I was in a wardrobe rut and needed a independent third party expert to help me out. During consultation Jennifer asked all the right questions and got a pretty good read of me. She suggested a stress free shopping trip and indeed it was. I abhor clothes shopping so all I had to do was show up and try a bunch stuff on, easy! Jennifer absolutely rocks. I do not like to shop and when I try to shop I rarely get things that fit right, then I get frustrated, and then I wind up getting much less than what I need and remain stuck with a closet full of clothes that do not fit right and that I have owned for years. I desperately needed to upgrade my wardrobe and dress more like an adult, so I sought Jennifer's help after seeing all the positive yelp reviews on here. While you might end up spending a nice chunk of money between the clothing and her services, I couldn't have asked for more from her. You get what you pay for. All e-mail communications were addressed quickly and professionally and our initial consultation was as convenient as can be. Jennifer met me in my office building and we went through a full questionnaire she had prepared. After getting my feedback and expectations, we set up a date for the shopping. Upon arriving at the stores, Jennifer had already put in a ton of effort arranging everything before you even get there and this made the process pretty painless. It was a whirlwind of trying on various outfits, noting the fits of the different brands, and coming to agreement on what looks best and what doesn't. In the end, I was able to totally revamp my wardrobe and was very happy with my purchases. From begging to end, Jennifer was a true professional and I could not have asked for more. Awesome. Simply awesome. Growing up, I had never been too worried about what I wore. To me, clothes were just clothes and I didn't give styling much thought. So when I moved to the Chicago area a few months ago and a few of my friends recommended some style updates, you could say I was a bit surprised. Jennifer was great - professional, knowledgeable, and energetic! She had a good sense of my style and fashion needs, gave me a lot of choices, and was teaching me about styling in the process. We met beforehand to go over what I was looking for and what I needed in my wardrobe and to take some measurements. A few weeks later, we met at the store and she had a dressing room full of clothes to try on. Even though my sizes were not standard (falling in between two sizes), she tirelessly went back and forth to find the right fit or to work with the tailor to alter it just right. I went a little bit over what I had planned to spend but I feel like I came away with a great value and a wardrobe that makes me feel excited to get dressed in the morning! So, my wife got me this appointment as a birthday present for 2017. I was a skeptical initially but I am a believer now ! and very happy to have been converted. I wasn't skeptical about the value a stylist would add to my wardrobe. Instead, my concern was if the stylist would work in my comfort zone and budget. I normally shop at Banana Republic for casual stuff and Nordstrom for formal wear. In the past, I have tried Trunk Club and Stitch Fix but was very disappointed because those (so-called) designers kept pushing me to some high end brands and I frankly, have no interest in paying $200+ for khakhis or $100+ for high end T-Shirts !!! I think those companies get commission form pushing certain brands or higher margin stuff. It was completely different working with Jennifer ... it was like going shopping with a friend. Overall, it was just awesome, I figured out what my style was and how I can look good easily and stay in my comfort zone. Plus, I actually saved money shopping with her as compared to shopping by myself. I also realized that I was only using 40% of my wardrobe; Jennifer helped me understand why. Most of my clothes were out of date even the ones that were from 2-3 years ago and I guess that I subconsciously knew that so I was avoiding those (now I have a big pile on its way to the salvation army store). I was always aware of styles but I am not the kind of person that keeps up with fashion changes every season. It is extremely helpful to have a friend who I can get a second opinion from if I am going to an important event or getting dressed up for an important meeting at work. Jennifer also helped me with some general rules to follow that allow me to independently dress up. I want to look my best (don't we all !) and now I know how to do exactly that. I think each of our brains are wired a certain way and mine isn't wired for fashion and styles. I have realized that just like you hire an account or a lawyer because they can help you look at the things a certain way why not do the same with a stylist. After all the time you spend with Jennifer will make you feel happier, which isn't what you can say for your lawyer and accountant :) read more
